Catrina's POV:
I sat on the edge of my bed, my hands shaking as I stared at the floor.
Everything that had happened – Rowan disappearing, not knowing what he was doing, the Mondragon pack being all nervous – it felt like it was crushing me.
I wanted to cry, but I held it back. I had to be strong, for Rowan and for our pup.
Where is he? Is he safe? My wolf whined, sensing my distress. I rubbed my belly, as if to reassure both of us. Rowan will be okay.
He's strong, he's the Alpha. He'll come back to us.
A soft knock startled me, and I jumped.
Was it Isabelle? Was she still mad after I practically slammed the door in her face earlier? I took a deep breath to calm myself.
“Come in,” I said, trying to sound normal.
The door opened, and Isabelle walked in. She looked serious, but not angry like before.
“Catrina,” she said softly, looking at me. “Can I talk to you?”
I blinked, surprised. “Uh… yeah, sure.”
She nodded and closed the door, then sat next to me on the bed.
It was awkward for a minute, and I fidgeted with my hands.
“I wanted to… say sorry,” Isabelle finally said, her voice quiet.
“For how I acted earlier. I know you’re going through a lot right now.”
I stared at her. “You’re… apologizing? To me?”
She gave a small, sad smile. “Yeah. I haven’t exactly been nice to you before. But I want you to know I’m here for you, Catrina. If you need someone to talk to, or just need someone to be there…”
I felt a lump in my throat. She sounded sincere, and it totally threw me off.
“I… I don’t get it. Why would you want to help me?”
Isabelle sighed and looked down. “Because I know what it’s like to be scared and worried. And…”
She paused, and for a second, she looked vulnerable, like a scared little girl instead of the strong Alpha she is.
“I don’t want you to go through this alone.”
I felt a wave of gratitude, but I still couldn’t believe it. After all the mean things she’d said, it was hard to imagine her being this nice.
But her eyes were full of genuine concern.
“Thank you,” I whispered, my voice choked up. “It… means a lot.”
She smiled a little. “Of course. We’ve had our problems, but you’re part of this pack now. I want to help you and Rowan.”
Hearing his name made my chest ache. “That’s… that’s what I’m so worried about. I have no idea where he is, what’s happening to him. And with everything going on here, I feel… useless.”
Her forehead creased with sympathy.
“I can imagine how hard this is. But you’re not alone, Catrina. We’re going to find him, I promise.”
I looked at her, seeing the determination in her eyes. “You… really mean that?”
“Absolutely,” she said firmly.
“He’s my family, too. I won’t stop until he’s back home with you and the pack.”
Hope flickered inside me, but I was still unsure. Just a few weeks ago, Isabelle was my enemy, trying to keep me away from Rowan.
Now, she was offering me support, understanding… Maybe even friendship?
What’s going on? I wondered.
Maybe it’s because she feels sorry for the pup? The thought warmed me, a glimmer of hope in the darkness.
“I don’t know what to say,” I admitted, shaking my head. “This is so… unexpected.”
She gently covered my hand with hers.
“You don’t have to say anything, Catrina. Just know that I’m here.”
The tears I’d been holding back finally spilled over.
“I’m… just so scared for him,” I whispered, my voice shaky.
“What if something bad happens to him, or the pup? I don’t know what I’d do.”
She squeezed my hand, her face full of understanding.
“I know, honey. But Rowan’s strong, and he has a reason to fight now—you and your pup. He’ll come back, I know it.”
I nodded, sniffling. “I just… I wish I could do something to help. To be with him instead of stuck here.”
She gave me a kind smile. “I know, but you and the pup need to be safe. That’s what Rowan would want.”
I sighed, knowing she was right. I wanted to be out there searching for him, but I couldn’t risk the pup.
“I just feel so helpless,” I whispered.
“You’re not helpless, Catrina,” she said firmly.
“You’re doing the most important thing—you’re carrying our future. That’s incredibly brave.”
A small smile touched my lips. “Thanks, Isabelle. I… I really appreciate you being here.”
She smiled back, her eyes warm.
“Of course. We might have had our differences, but you’re family now. And I’ll protect our pack.”
We sat quietly for a bit, the tension between us gone.
Finally, Isabelle spoke, her voice serious. “Catrina, I’m going to do everything I can to find Rowan and bring him home safe.”
My heart leaped with hope. “You are?”
She nodded. “I’ve already sent a team of our best warriors to track him to the Drakor Clan. We won’t stop until we find him, until he’s back where he belongs—by your side.”
My throat tightened with emotion.
“I… I want to help, but I know I can’t risk the pup.”
She squeezed my hand again.
“I know, Catrina. Your job is to rest and keep our pup safe. Let us handle the dangerous part.”
I nodded, giving her a shaky smile. “Thank you, Isabelle. Really. I don’t know what I’d do without you right now.”
She smiled back softly. “You don’t have to thank me. We’re in this together, always.”
As we sat there, thinking about our worries and hopes, I was amazed at how much our relationship had changed.
We used to be enemies, but now we were understanding each other, supporting each other.
It was weird. Isabelle was the Mondragon Alpha, the arranged wife of my mate, the one who’d threatened to keep me away from Rowan.
But now, she was like… a friend.
I knew things would be hard for Rowan and the pack. But with Isabelle on my side, I felt stronger. We would face anything that came our way, together.
And when Rowan came back, he’d be happy to see that Isabelle and I weren’t fighting anymore.
We were all fighting for the same thing – our family.
I took a deep breath, feeling determined.
I had to stay strong here, make sure he had a home to come back to.
“You’re right, Alpha” I said, looking at Isabelle. “Let’s bring him home.”
Her eyes shone with pride. “Yes, let’s. He’ll be back where he belongs.”
