                    Isabelle's POV:
My knuckles were white as I gripped the steering wheel, speeding back towards the Mondragon mansion.
My mind was a jumbled mess of worries and emotions, all swirling around the chaos brewing in the Magnus pack.
As Alpha, I was supposed to protect my own people.
But Rowan, the future Alpha of the Magnus pack, was part of my life now, connected to me in a way that went beyond pack politics.
“This wasn’t supposed to be so complicated.” I thought, frustration building inside me.
“When I agreed to marry Rowan, it was a political move, a way to make our packs stronger. But now… things are different.”
My phone rang, startling me. It was Derek.
“Derek,” I answered, keeping my voice steady.
“What’s going on?”
“Isabelle, I don’t know if you heard about this…” Derek’s voice was full of worry.
“Rowan’s been taken by the Drakhor Clan and my father is furious after knowing about it.”
My heart skipped a beat. “Marcus? but why did he have to know about it?”
He sighed. “It’s the Kezrach Larva, Isabelle. He had been really unstable, everyone was scared in the pack. Rowan’s had to find the cure, before something really bad happens over here.”
I tightened my grip on the wheel, my mind racing.
“This is bad. Really bad.” I thought, fear twisting in my gut. “If Rowan can’t find a cure…”
“He won’t just sit back and let Rowan take charge, will he?” I asked, my voice tight.
“That’s the problem,” Derek said, his voice low.
“My father is losing control of the pack. He knows that Rowan is the rightful heir but he’s trying to stop him.”
A chill ran down my spine. If Marcus was that desperate to stay in power, the whole Magnus pack was in danger.
“Derek, tell me everything you know about the Kezrach Larva,”
I said, my mind already working on a plan.
“If it’s a threat to other packs, then I need to know exactly what we’re dealing with.”
He hesitated. “Isabelle, I… I’m not sure how much I should say. This is really secret stuff, and it could put people at risk.”
I was getting impatient.
“Derek, I’m not asking as your sister-in-law or Mondragon’s Alpha. I’m asking as someone who needs to protect my pack. Our packs.”
There was a long pause. Finally, he sighed.
“Alright, Isabelle. But you have to promise me this stays between us. For now, at least.”
I nodded, even though he couldn't see me. “You have my word. Now tell me.”
Derek explained everything he knew about the Kezrach Larva – where it came from, how it affected the Magnus pack, how dangerous it was.
As he talked, I felt a growing sense of dread.
This wasn’t just a Magnus pack problem. It was a threat to everyone.
I definitely overlook the seriousness of this case.
“So, you see, Isabelle,” Derek finished, his voice heavy,
“Rowan’s mission to the Drakor Clan isn’t just about saving his dad. It’s about saving all of us.”
I took a slow breath. “And you’re saying Marcus will do anything to stop Rowan from finding a cure?”
“Anything,” Derek whispered.
“He’s already psychologically hurt Catrina, and who knows what else he’ll do to stay in power?”
Rage surged through me. “That monster! How dare he hurt an innocent pregnant omega! Catrina doesn’t deserve this, no matter who she’s mated to.”
“Derek, I need you to do something for me,” I said firmly.
“Keep an eye on Catrina. Make sure she’s safe. Don’t let Marcus get anywhere near her or the baby.”
“I will,” he said, relieved.
“What about Rowan? What are you going to do?”
I gripped the steering wheel tighter, my eyes narrowing as the Mondragon mansion came into view.
“I’m going to do what I should have done all along. I’m not going to rely on my warriors anymore, I’m going to help Rowan myself.”
Derek actually chuckled.
“Wow, Isabelle. I never thought I’d see the day you’d put someone else before your own pack.”
Then he added, his voice teasing, “Maybe we should celebrate this later… just the two of us?”
His words made my cheeks burn, but I brushed them off. Now wasn’t the time for that.
“Don’t get any ideas, Derek. This is a one-time thing,” I said firmly.
“Sure, sure,” he said, and I could hear the smile in his voice.
“Just… be careful, okay? Rowan may be my brother, but you’re still Mondragon’s Alpha.”
“I know, Derek,” I said, my voice softening a little.
“I’ll be careful. And you keep Catrina safe. We can’t lose either of them.”
“You got it,” he said, and I hung up, my focus sharpening.
As I pulled up to the mansion, I barely took time to park before I was rushing inside.
My eyes scanned the fancy entrance hall, searching for Catrina.
“Where is she?” My wolf paced restlessly, her senses on high alert. “Something’s not right.”
As I walked through the halls, I saw Dakota.
“Dakota,” I called out sharply. “Where’s Catrina?”
She jumped, her eyes wide with surprise.
“A-Alpha Isabelle! I… I’m not sure. I haven’t seen her since—”
“Since what?” I interrupted, my patience wearing thin. “Something’s definitely wrong.”
She hesitated, her eyes darting nervously. “Since… since some human guy came looking for her earlier.”
Dread washed over me like a cold wave. “Human? What did he want with Catrina?”
She swallowed hard, her hands shaking.
“I… I don’t know, Alpha. But he seemed angry, and Catrina didn’t come back.”
Anger flared inside me, hot and fierce.
If that human hurt her…
“Dakota, get a few of the strongest warriors. Come with me,”
I ordered, my voice leaving no room for argument.
“We’re finding Catrina.”
Her eyes widened, but she nodded quickly and hurried off to do what I said. I took a deep breath, preparing myself.
As I headed out of the mansion, my mind raced with terrifying possibilities.
But I pushed them aside and focused on the task at hand.
It wasn’t long before Dakota came back with a few strong warriors.
I nodded to them, my face grim.
“Listen up,” I said, my voice low and serious.
“We’re splitting up and searching the whole area around the mansion. Catrina’s been missing too long. We don’t stop until we find her.”
They nodded, and we took off, spreading out across the Mondragon land.
“Hold on, Catrina.” My wolf howled, sending her scent out on the wind. “We’re coming.”
