Rowan’s POV:
Korvash’s words echoed in my head as I left the Drakor Clan’s inner sanctuary. My mind was buzzing with everything I’d learned.
The Kezrach Larva… the key to stopping it… the Luna’s Breath Elixir… It all makes sense now.
I clenched my fists, a fire of determination burning inside me.
I had to put an end to this nightmare. No more secrets, no more lies.
It was time to face the truth, no matter how painful it might be.
I raced through the forest, my steps quick and purposeful.
Catrina and our pup were waiting for me, and I couldn’t stand the thought of them being in danger while I was gone.
“I have to get back to them.” My wolf urged, pacing restlessly within me. “They need me.”
But when I finally reached the Mondragon mansion, the sight that greeted me made my blood run cold.
Isabelle was standing there, her face pale, and her words shattered my world.
“Catrina’s been taken, Rowan,” she said, her voice heavy.
“Your mate’s ex-boyfriend… he… he kidnapped her.”
The air left my lungs.
“What? How?” I choked out, my voice full of pain.
Isabelle looked at me with regret in her eyes.
“I should have been there, Rowan. I should have protected her. I… I got distracted, and now…”
I cut her off, my hands clenching into fists.
“Where is she? Where’s Catrina?”
Her face was pained. “I don’t know, Rowan. He took her, and we haven’t been able to track them. ”
Panic flooded me, my wolf howling in despair.
Catrina… my mate, the mother of my child… was out there, at the mercy of a madman.
And I was the one who left her vulnerable.
It’s all my fault! I was so focused on the mission… I never even considered that she might be in danger.
“I have to find her,” I rasped, my voice thick with emotion. “I have to bring her home.”
Isabelle nodded, her face determined.
“I know, Rowan. We’ll help you. But you have to understand – He won’t let Catrina go easily.”
I shook my head, my mind racing.
“I don’t care. I can’t lose her. I won’t. I’ll tear the world apart if I have to, but I’m bringing Catrina back.”
She put a hand on my shoulder, her eyes full of concern.
“I know how you feel, Rowan. But you can’t just rush in. Not with Catrina’s life at stake. We have to be smart about this.”
I gritted my teeth, my wolf clawing to get out, desperate to find his mate.
“I don’t have time to be smart! Every second we waste, she could be—”
I couldn’t finish the sentence. The thought of something happening to her was unbearable.
Her grip tightened on my shoulder.
“I know, but we have to be careful, Rowan. Brock’s unpredictable. He’ll be expecting us to come charging in.”
I growled, frustrated and scared.
“Then what do we do, Isabelle? I’m running out of time!”
Her expression hardened.
“We need to figure out where he took her, Rowan. Then we can make a plan to get her back safely. We can’t put her or the pup at risk.”
The pup. My heart clenched at the thought of our unborn child.
“The pup…” I whispered, the weight of it all crushing me.
Isabelle nodded solemnly.
“Exactly. Catrina and your child are in danger, Rowan. We have to be careful.”
I clenched my jaw, fighting the urge to just run off and search for her blindly.
My wolf was howling inside me, demanding action, but I knew Isabelle was right.
I couldn’t be reckless. Not now.
“Okay,” I conceded, my voice barely a whisper. “What’s the plan?”
Her face softened, and she squeezed my shoulder.
“First, we have to track Brock. Figure out where he might have taken Catrina. Then we’ll put together a team and get her back.”
I nodded, my mind already working on a plan. I had to be smart and strategic.
I had to save Catrina and our pup.
“Whatever it takes, Isabelle,” I said, my voice firm.
“I’m going to bring Catrina home, even if I have to rip Brock apart with my own two hands.”
Her eyes were full of understanding.
“I know, Rowan. We’ll get her back. But we have to do this right. For Catrina’s sake… and for the pup.”
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. “Alright. Let’s do this.”
Isabelle and I started working right away, trying to find any clue about where Brock might have taken Catrina.
“I won’t let anything happen to them.” My wolf vowed, his voice a fierce growl in my mind.
“ I’ll find them. I’ll bring them home.”
Hour after hour, we worked tirelessly, piecing together a plan.
Isabelle gathered our best trackers and fighters, the most loyal wolves in our pack, all ready to risk their lives to bring Catrina back.
But even with everything in place, I couldn’t shake the anxiety gnawing at me.
What if we’re too late? What if something’s already happened?
No. I forced myself to focus on the task at hand.
Catrina and the pup are strong. They’ll be okay. I have to believe that.
Finally, as the sun started to set, we were ready. The team was assembled, the plan was set, and all we had to do was put it into action.
I took a deep breath, meeting Isabelle’s gaze.
“Let’s go,” I said, my voice low and determined.
She nodded. “Lead the way, Rowan. We’re right behind you.”
I turned and sprinted into the night, my wolf surging to the surface.
The need to find Catrina was all-consuming, driving me forward with primal urgency.
Brock had taken what was mine, and I would hunt him down to the ends of the earth to get them back.
Nothing would stop me.
The miles flew by, my senses focused on Brock’s scent, on any clue that could lead me to Catrina.
As we got closer to the city, Brock’s scent got stronger. He’d been here recently.
I pushed myself harder, my wolf howling with a desperate need to find his mate.
But then, on the outskirts of the city, another scent hit me, a scent that made my blood run cold.
“Blood,” I growled, my eyes narrowing.
“Catrina’s blood.”
Isabelle was beside me in an instant.
“We’re close, Rowan. Stay focused. We’ll find her.”
I didn’t answer. All I could think about was finding Catrina.
We followed the scent through the city streets, and it got stronger with every step.
My heart pounded, and my wolf clawed to break free.
We turned a corner, and I saw it – an old, run-down warehouse, its windows dark, the doors hanging open.
Without hesitation, I sprinted towards it, Mondragon warriors close behind.
She’s in there. I can feel it.
I burst through the doorway, my eyes frantically searching the dark space.
“Catrina!” I roared, my voice echoing through the emptiness.
But there was no answer.
Only the faint scent of her blood, and a terrifying feeling that I was too late.
My knees buckled, and the weight of my failure crashed down on me.
Catrina… my everything… was gone.
Isabelle was there in a flash, her hand on my shoulder.
“Rowan, we’ll find her.She is close, I feel it. We’ll bring her home.”
But her words offered no comfort. All I could see was Catrina, scared and alone, at the mercy of that crazy, obsessed human.
I have to find her. Despair and determination warred within me. I won’t fail her. Not again.
I turned to Isabelle, my eyes filled with resolve.
“Let’s go,” I growled. “We’ve got to find her.”
