                    Rowan’s POV:
My wolf’s senses were on high alert as I raced through the dark city streets.
I could barely smell Catrina, but her scent was there, a faint whisper in the wind, pulling me forward.
Every muscle in my body was tense, my heart pounding like a drum.
I have to find her. I have to get to her before it’s too late. Fear and urgency fueled my every step.
Suddenly, a familiar figure stepped out of the shadows, and I skidded to a halt, my heart leaping into my throat.
“Derek?” Relief flooded through me, so intense it almost made me weak. But confusion quickly followed. What’s he doing here?
My brother’s face was a mixture of shock and worry. “Rowan? What are you doing here? I thought you were with the Drakor!”
I didn’t have time for explanations. “Catrina’s been taken! Some crazy human, he—”
Derek’s eyes went wide, and he grabbed my arms. “Rowan, you need to get out of here! It’s not safe! Not with Dad—”
I pulled back, my forehead creased in confusion. “What are you talking about? I have to find Catrina! She’s in danger!”
What is he talking about? My wolf growled, impatient. Catrina needs us! We have to follow her scent, track her down…
“Rowan, listen!” Derek’s voice was urgent. “Dad’s gone crazy! The Kezrach Larva… it’s taken over completely. He’s using it to control the pack! He’s going to stop you from finding a cure!”
My blood ran cold. “The Kezrach Larva? But… I have the cure, Derek! The Luna’s Breath, from the Drakor…”
Derek’s grip tightened, his face twisted with worry. “Then you have to get it to the pack, Rowan. Dad’s using the Larva to control everyone. He’ll do anything to keep the cure away from them! He wants to keep them weak, dependent on him!”
My mind reeled. He’s using the curse to control the pack? To keep them weak?
“But Catrina… I can’t just leave her…” My voice cracked with despair. The thought of abandoning her, of leaving her at the mercy of that creep Brock… it was unbearable.
“Mate… Danger… Protect…” My wolf snarled, his instincts battling with my sense of duty.
“I’ll find her, Rowan,” Derek said, his voice firm and reassuring. “I promise. You have to trust me. Get the cure to the pack. It’s the only way to stop Dad, to stop this madness.”
I felt torn in two. My mate was out there, alone and scared, and my wolf was screaming at me to find her, protect her.
But Derek was right. The whole pack was in danger. If I didn’t get the Luna’s Breath to them, the Kezrach could spread and destroy everything.
With a heavy heart, I pulled the vial from my pocket and pressed it into Derek’s hand. “Take it,” I whispered. “Get it to the pack, to Uncle Jarrett. He’ll know what to do.”
I have to trust him. I told myself, forcing down the panic that threatened to overwhelm me.
Derek’s face hardened with resolve, his jaw set, and he nodded, his grip tightening around the vial of Luna’s Breath.
He’s stronger than I thought. I realized a flicker of pride warming the icy fear in my chest.
He’s finally stepping up, becoming the wolf he was meant to be.
“Alright, Rowan,” Derek said, his voice rough with emotion. “I’ll get it to them. I promise.”
Relief washed over me, followed by a wave of guilt and worry.
“Derek, I… I’m so sorry. For everything. For the way I’ve been— “
He raised a hand, stopping my apology before it could fully form.
“Don’t worry about that now. We can talk later. Right now, we have to save the pack and you find Catrina.” Gratitude surged inside me.
My brother, who’d always been in my shadow, was now standing beside me, shoulder to shoulder, ready to fight.
“Thank you, Derek. I owe you more than you know.”
He gave me a small, tired smile.
“Just go, Rowan. Find Catrina and bring her home. I solve everything else”
“He’s right.” My wolf growled, his voice insistent.
“Pack is important, but Mate comes first. Find her. Protect her.”
The ancient, primal instincts roared within me, urging me to follow my mate’s scent, to shield her from danger.
I nodded, steeling myself for the task ahead.
“I will, Derek. I promise.”
And with that, I turned and ran, my wolf’s senses focused on Catrina’s fading scent.
I could feel the weight of the cure in Derek’s hands, a symbol of hope for the pack, and a new kind of weight settled on my own shoulders - the weight of knowing my brother was risking everything for me, for our family.
“I won’t let him down.”
I vowed silently, my wolf adding his own fierce agreement. “I’ll save Catrina, and then we’ll come back and help Derek and Uncle Jarrett deal with Dad.”
As I raced through the maze of dark city streets, my mind was flooded with terrifying possibilities.
I have to find her. I will find her. Her scent was faint now, pulling me forward with an almost unbearable urgency.
While I was running my knees buckled, and I crashed to the ground, my body shaking with a mix of anger and despair.
I’d been so close… so close… and I was still too late.
Catrina's scent was gone, vanished like smoke, and I had no idea where Brock had taken her.
“No! No! No!” My wolf howled, a raw, primal scream of pain and rage tearing through me.
I could feel her slipping away, the bond that connected us stretching thin, like a fragile thread about to snap.
Panic choked me, the weight of my failure crushing me.
“I failed her. I promised I’d protect her, and I failed.” The thought was a poisonous venom, twisting in my gut.
But even as despair threatened to consume me, a new feeling rise within me, a fierce determination.
I wouldn’t give up. Not now. Not ever.
Catrina was out there, somewhere, and I would find her. I would tear the world apart to bring her home.
“He won’t get away with this.” My wolf snarled, his voice a low rumble of menace. “He’ll pay for what he’s done.”
I pushed myself to my feet, my body aching, my heart heavy with a grief that threatened to consume me.
But beneath the pain, there was a burning anger. I would find Catrina. No matter the cost.
And when I did, Brock Callahan would learn the true meaning of a wolf’s fury.
