Her squeals buckled my knees and scraped in my ears- I was stunned, her perfume wafted toward me from her neck where there was a damp surface, and just below her ear was a red mark. That was new.
I stepped back and narrowed my eyes on the mark without making an effort to conceal my disgust but I wouldn’t attack right away. Let’s see if she’ll admit it.
“Who gave you that?” I said and pointed to the hickey. What were they, thirteen? Who gave hickeys nowadays?
Tilly touched the red uneven patch and dragged her fingers up and down her neck like she was searching for it.
“What?” she asked and walked to the vanity where the small round mirror nearly cracked from her reflection. I felt like a bitch, but I wasn’t nearly as bad I would become if she didn’t tell me the truth.
Through her reflection, I saw her eyes grow round as she examined the hickey. Tilly laughed nervously and hid it under her palm.
“The guy I hung out with earlier must’ve given it to me,” the flustered laugh that peeled from her lips left a dry crust on her gloss, and her pale cheeks immediately blossomed.
“What guy?” I asked, taking a step toward her. I puffed my chest out, my hands relaxed at my sides and my neck stiffened in a superior rise.
Slowly, before my eyes, she shrunk under the weight of my flaming gaze. A rush of adrenaline shocked my heart and shot out in my fingers as they balled up in fists.
But not yet, no hits, no cussing, just relax and watch her become smaller. Wishing she could disappear into thin air.
“You don’t know him,” she said, shaking her head.
“Try me.” I knew all the guys she knew. It’s not like we get a lot of newcomers in the pack.
I fixated my gaze on her chest, watching her shirt wave over her beating heart- my eyes moved up her flustered neck and she gulped, her eyes glimmered and her lips pressed together in a firm line.
Tilly tried to laugh it off and roll her eyes.
“Forget about it, he’s not important! Get dressed and we’ll go out and have a good time. You need it after what you’ve been through,” Right, after the attack, and the move and the fire. None of which stopped her from fucking my ex.
I closed the distance between us and she took one last step but backed into the bedpost. There was nowhere for her to run and if she tried to fight me, I knew I’d win.
“Who was the guy, Tilly?”
“Why do you-“
“The name,” I ordered.
Her lips parted in a quiet answer, it was barely a breath, and her eyes were round and big.
I gritted my teeth and pressed my nails into the palms of my hands.
“Louder, so I can hear.” I seethed.
“It- it was Landon,” she whispered. “But I swear it meant nothing, it was just a one-time thing, he came over and it wasn’t even good!”
Whenever someone was backed into a corner and I knew that they were afraid or wanted to tap out, I’d normally step back. I had the decency not to inflict pain on someone who was already on the ground. That decency, like so many other attributes I pride myself on, went out the fucking window. The sound of my fist flying through the air, breaking her jaw as it connected with her trembling face filled the room and her head whipped to the side- the back of her head slamming back against the bedpost and whaling sounds rippled from her lips.
I got in her face and relished when she pressed herself back with pure fear twisting her features.
“Get the fuck out of here. If I see you again, I’ll rearrange your face and make you unrecognizable.” I sized her up, searching her face before locking my eyes on hers again. “it might be an improvement.” I said and stepped to the side. She walked on waddling legs toward the door, casting wary glances to make sure I wasn’t following her and the second she grabbed that handle, she was gone.
Out of all the things she could’ve done, all the people she could’ve fucked- hell, out of all the people she HAD fucked, why him? I mean, technically, it’s fitting if you think about it; the Obsidian Pack’s two biggest whores, they should’ve been endgame. If he just stopped playing his games with me, I’d gladly step aside and let them live out their happy ever after together; they deserve each other. But behind my back? While I was healing from the attack?
Fuck! Everything was setting aflame inside of me, my insides were twisting and ripping, and I had no outlet for the rage. There was a speck of blood on the vintage white bedpost where her head had bashed in, the vision of her face standing in front of me came back and I landed another hit. The wood cracked and shifted before breaking apart from the rest of the bed and fell to the floor.
A creak had me turn to face the door and Logan poked his thick head inside, another person I didn’t want to see: the list was getting long.
“I just saw Tilly speeding out of here,” so?
I shook my head to see if he had any other useless information for me.
“Did…” he searched my face and walked inside the room. My eyes narrowed on him in a warning, and he stopped by the threshold, holding the door with one hand. There was something behind me that caught his attention and I remembered the broken bedpost.
“Did something happen?” he asked.
“She fucked my ex. Now leave,” walked around the bed to grab a book but I couldn’t take it from its hiding spot with him in here.
Logan nodded slowly and puckered his lips.
“I’ll leave you to it,” thank God.
He stepped out about to close the door, but my hand froze midair and I pulled it back from the corner with the loose board when the door opened up again.
He rolled his eyes and chewed on his tongue for a tortures few seconds before our eyes locked.
Darkness and apathy filled to the brim, framed by his thick lashes, and his features hardened.
“It’s not the first time. they’ve been hooking up ever since the first one of our parties you came to a year ago,”
Walls shattering.
Voices screaming.
The red veil covered my vision.
