                    Aurora’s POV
I don’t think I’ve ever been this nervous. What in the world do Ivy’s parents- Thorne’s parents- want to see me for? She didn’t say, just told me there was a car waiting to drive me to their house.
Her little smirk didn’t make me feel any better either. It’s like she’s expecting me to get into trouble, which again, wouldn’t surprise me. I’m sure she would like it if her parents just got rid of me.
The car pulls into a long driveway and stops in front of a luxurious house that resembles a mansion. It looks like somewhere that royalty would live, which makes me more nervous. To make things worse, I’m alone. Thorne hadn’t come with me because Ivy said their parents wanted to talk to me alone.
I wanted to beg Thorne to come with me, but I also didn’t want to give Ivy the satisfaction of seeing me rattled. Although, she probably already noticed. Most of the time, my emotions are written all over my face.
It makes it hard to keep my feelings hidden.
As I step out of the car, I tug on my shirt and run my hands over any visible wrinkles. I’ve never met an Alpha and Luna before- other than Thorne- and this is a big deal. The former Alpha and Luna are like pack royalty. Not many people can just go talk to them, especially humans.
And these are Thorne’s parents. Just the reminder of that makes me nervous for an entirely different reason.
Did they figure out that I’m sleeping with their son? If they know about the contract, they’re probably angry. I clutch my hands tighter together. Their anger could mean a bad ending for me. They could kick me out of the pack and back to the Human Quarter.
“This way.”
I startle, jumping at the sudden voice beside me.
A man opens the front door and leads me inside to a large room with ornate couches and expensive furnishings. I feel like I could dirty this place just by breathing. I don’t think I’ve ever been somewhere so nice.
The ball of anxiety that jumbled in my stomach grows as my guide leaves me alone. I jump at every little sound, searching the room for anything that may hint at why I’m here. It’s strange to invite or command someone to come to your home only to leave them alone without greeting them.
I stand here for around fifteen minutes before a door at the far end of the room opens. A beautiful woman walks in, followed by a large man that I almost mistake as Thorne. He has the same tall and broad build with dark hair and piercing eyes. The little bit of gray at his temples is different, as well as the stiff way he holds himself.
The woman on the other hand is petite with light brown, almost blonde hair and light-colored eyes. Thorne clearly got all of his looks from his father.
“Miss Roberts, please have a seat,” the former Luna says, motioning to the couch across from where she sits. I hesitate, keeping my eyes on Thorne’s father’s movements. He sits next to his wife, and only then do I lower myself to perch on the edge of the couch. I don’t want to anger them by not sitting, but I’m on edge.
The way he watches me… It’s eerily similar to Thorne. They have the same predatory glint in their eyes.
“I would like to hear about our daughter’s wedding arrangements,” the woman says, bringing my attention back to her.
A man carries in a tray of drinks, offering them to the Alpha couple before turning to me. I thank him quietly and sip the water.
“Ivy has not told us much about their plans, and I heard through the grapevine that you’ve been helping with the preparations,” the Luna tells me, sipping her own drink as she studies me. “I just didn’t expect you to be human.”
Her tone isn’t derogatory like most werewolves, and her smile seems genuine. I’m not sure if I should trust her or not, and I glance at her husband. He stays silent, his arm wrapped possessively around the Luna’s waist as she speaks.
“I offered Ivy my help, but she said she wanted to take care of everything herself,” the woman says. Little by little, I relax a bit. They’re not asking about my relationship with Thorne, which means they might not know.
“Well, we’ve really only just started planning the wedding, but I have attended a few meetings with Ivy and Jackson. If I remember correctly, the cake is chosen, decorations are taken care of, flowers were chosen by Ivy this morning, reception details are in the works, the guest list is complete, and the venue is under consideration,” I explain quickly, wanting to get out of this odd situation.
The Luna’s eyes widen along with her smile, “That’s fantastic. You’ve gotten so much done in a short amount of time. I like that.”
It’s weird that she says that. I haven’t done much other than follow Jackson and Ivy around to their appointments; though, I’m not going to tell the Luna that. It’s not exactly polite to argue with someone like her, so I hold my tongue.
I should also be grateful that Ivy didn’t tell her mother I yelled at her about my wedding dress sketches. If she had, I’m sure this conversation would be going an entirely different way, which has me wondering. Why didn’t Ivy tell them?
This would have been a perfect opportunity for her to get back at me, yet she didn’t take it. Of course, Ivy would have had to admit her theft and lies, which is probably why she didn’t say anything.
I can’t imagine that the former Alpha and Luna want to hear that their daughter tried to steal from a human.
“Now, I asked you to come see me for a very specific reason, Ms. Roberts,” the Luna says, recapturing my attention. I set my water down, confused. I thought Ivy’s wedding plans were why she called me here, but I guess not.
“I have been looking for someone to plan my stepson’s wedding as well.”
I freeze, my mind staggering before it jumps into action and begins overthinking. By stepson, does she mean Thorne? Or does she have another stepson?
Then my mind shifts to a bigger problem.
Thorne is getting married.
That would imply that he is engaged, which he’s never mentioned to me before. My heart squeezes as panic begins to rise within me. I try to tamp it down, to keep it hidden from the two werewolves across from me.
The Luna doesn’t notice my internal struggle because she keeps talking, “Thorne is incredibly independent and busy these days, and he’s been neglecting his duty to find a mate.”
What in the world is she talking about?
“So, to help him out, I have arranged an engagement for Thorne with the daughter of an Alpha in a nearby pack,” the Luna states, smiling like she’s bestowing a gift. “Their wedding date is already set. What I need is someone who can plan the wedding in a quick and efficient manner.”
I stare at the woman, completely surprised by her words.
“And from what I’ve seen and heard here, I believe you would be the best choice to plan Thorne’s wedding.”
