Jackson’s POV
The floor creaks beneath my weight and flirty conversation on the other side of the door stops. I quickly move away from the door and down the stairs before I can get caught. The last thing I need or want is for Thorne to be angry at me.
They’d been in there for nearly twenty minutes, and what I heard would make anyone second guess their relationship.
No longer does it seem that Aurora and Thorne are just working together. The things she said to him, about her dirty thoughts, the scent of arousal that came from the room, it all tells me there’s more to this than they’re letting on.
It’s still yet to be seen if Aurora is Thorne’s cherished lover. I need more proof if I’m going to confirm that Aurora is Thorne’s lover, but if they’re not in a relationship, then they’re at least fucking. Or they want to.
I hadn’t seen Thorne or Aurora drink any alcohol tonight, so they can’t blame their actions on being drunk.
No one pays me any attention as I slip back into the dining hall, but I remain worried. Aurora being in a relationship with Thorne could ruin my plans. Instead of being the one to help me seal the deal, Aurora could be the nail in the coffin that makes sure my project is never accepted.
I can’t allow that to happen, but before I can move forward, I need to know for sure if Thorne is in love with Aurora. There has to be a way to test it without being caught or…
If they’re together, and if Thorne cares about Aurora, he would want to protect her if she’s in danger. Werewolves, especially Alphas, are extremely territorial and protective of things they see as theirs, so if Aurora were to somehow find herself in peril, Thorne would rush to the rescue.
However, putting her in danger will be tricky. There are a lot of people here who would notice if I were to set up a trap.
I look around the room, wandering to the front doors to look out. The forest could be an option or maybe luring her away somewhere. As long as Thorne doesn’t notice, I could do it tonight.
As I peer out the front windows, a balcony off to the left catches my eye. It’s high off the ground and secluded, but close enough that it would be easy to lure Aurora out.
It could work.
With one last look around the room, I slip out of the room.
Aurora’s POV
“There was unauthorized movement in the forest near the border,” Alpha Sanders tells Thorne. “Want to help me check it out? We needed to check the borders anyway.”
“Yeah, it would be nice to stretch my legs,” Thorne says, standing. He pats my shoulder before saying, “I’ll be back soon.”
I merely nod and watch as he leaves me alone again. Honestly, it’s alright. I need to cool down after our little moment upstairs, and having him near wasn’t helping me chase the arousal or embarrassment away.
I press the backs of my hands to my hot cheeks as I remember how I grinded against his thigh like a cat in heat. The curious, and apparently horny, little cat inside me is clearly driving my body in more than one way. Just remembering how good it felt to finally get a bit of friction has my body heating up again.
I’ve never done anything so bold or insane in my life.
There’s something about being with Thorne that makes me want to explore that darker side of me. I’ve only ever been the boring little human girl, but when I’m with him in the bedroom, he makes me want more.
It’s dangerous, and I’m not sure what to do about it.
“Excuse me.”
Looking up, I find a woman standing off to my side. She smiles holds out a small, folded piece of paper to me, “Your Alpha told me to give this to you.”
I glance at it, my cheeks heating once again at her words. My Alpha. I know she probably doesn’t mean anything by that, but my mind is going crazy after our interrupted time earlier.
“Thank you.”
She disappears as quickly as she appeared, and I slowly open the note.
Meet me on the third-floor balcony in ten minutes.
-Thorne
A shiver of anticipation runs up my spine, and I look around, making sure no one is paying attention to me. They’re not. Everyone is busy chatting and drinking since the actual dinner portion of this party hasn’t started yet.
I take this as my chance to slip out of the room, rushing to the stairs. It’s kind of thrilling, sneaking around like this, and I didn’t think Thorne was into this kind of thing. Then, I think about how both of us were hot and bothered, on the edge of fucking, earlier when we had to pull apart.
Maybe he doesn’t want to wait until we get back to our room later.
With more excitement than I probably should feel, I make my way upstairs to the third floor. The balcony door is already open, but when I step out into the cool night air, Thorne isn’t here. The note said ten minutes, and I definitely didn’t wait ten minutes like he instructed, so I guess I’ll have to wait here.
Walking to the edge of the balcony, I peer up at the sky and the bright stars. They stand out beautifully against the dark sky, and I take a minute to admire the view. I can’t remember the last time I just stopped and looked at the stars.
My life has been so stressful in the past years with bills, getting dumped, dealing with debts, and so much more that I haven’t really truly had a chance to relax. Until now.
And that’s thanks to Thorne.
Not only did he give me money to save my sister, but he also gave me a job and stability. Yes, I give him my body in return, but I find that doesn’t bother me as much as it did when we first came together.
I enjoy my time with him now.
Two soft thuds sound from behind me before a loud slam makes me turn around. The balcony door is closed, the curtains are down, and a dark figure stands on the other side.
“Thorne? Is that you?” I go to take a step toward the door when a loud hiss sounds from somewhere in front of me. I freeze, squinting to see through the darkness. A rattle sounds from my left, and then another hiss fills the air.
The hairs on the back of my neck prickle, telling me there’s danger.
Suddenly, a light flicks on and illuminates the two snakes curled up near the balcony doors. Their beady eyes track my movements, and I realize they’re between me and the door. There’s no way to get around them without being attacked. Panic blooms in my chest as I stumble backward.
My back collides with the balcony rail, a scream building in my chest as the snakes rattle their tails and lift their heads.
