                    Aurora POV
My heart hammers against my ribcage, threatening to tear itself out of my chest as Thorne watches me with that hot, hungry gaze.
“So obedient,” Thorne rumbles, sending another shiver down my spine. The kind of shiver that tells me that I want what his desire-thickened voice promises. “You prepared so well.”
I want to tell him I didn’t prepare for him. I just wanted to wash the day off, and he happens to be here, but I find that I can’t speak past the lump in my throat. It’s almost like his gaze is a physical touch, caressing every spot they run over.
Inching forward at the crook of his finger, I sit across from him and settle the towel where I feel at least a bit covered.
“Sorry for using your bathroom without permission,” I mutter, tightening my hold on the top and bottom of the towel. “But before I become your mistress, I want to discuss when you’ll help me pay off my debts.”
I realize that I sound like a leach, but I shove down the thought and force myself to peer at Thorne. He’s so tall, even sitting down, that he’s at least a head taller when sitting. When standing, I think I reach his shoulders… maybe.
He’s a large man, strong with broad shoulders and defined muscles. It’s not surprising that all the women want him. He’s more than handsome.
“You don’t need to apologize,” Thorne states, clearing his throat and pulling my eyes back to his. The arched brow immediately hints that I’ve been caught admiring him. “For the time being, during our contract, you will be staying here. This will be your room.”
I blink up at him, surprised and confused.
“My room?” When he nods again, I stutter, “O-Okay.”
“What did you want to clarify about your situation?”
I don’t know why, but his question catches me off guard. Of course, I need to tell him about the change in my debt. I just hope it won’t change his offer. If he turns me away now, I don’t know what I’ll do to pay the debt.
Instead of speaking immediately, I take a moment to focus before answering, “A-After I left you earlier, I was told that my debt is fifty thousand, not ten thousand. Jackson…” my voice cracks and I look down, blinking away the tears. “The interest rate was so high that now it’s fifty thousand.”
Silence expands in the room, covering me and thickening the air between the two of us. I don’t know what to say, or if I should say anything after my revelation. So, I wait for him to become angry or to tell me to get out.
This isn’t what he agreed to, even though we haven’t fully formed an agreement. Still, this isn’t what we talked about earlier today.
A packet of paper appears in front of me, and I look up. Thorne offers the contract, and I reach out a trembling hand to accept it.
If the way his eyes dart to my hand is any indication, he notices the shaking; however, he doesn’t comment on it.
He merely smirks and says, “You will receive the money after signing the contract.”
Hesitantly, I flip to the first page of the contract and look at the neatly printed document. “So, I am to be locked in this mansion, waiting to be the tool you use to satisfy your sexual desires while losing the last shreds of my dignity?”
“Yes, that’s exactly it. Do you still dare to agree to be my mistress?”
Do I dare?
I realize he’s giving me a chance to back out, to run while I can, but can I take it? Can I risk the debt collectors coming back and hurting, or worse killing, my sister?
I know the answer, and I won’t risk it. My sister is finally getting the treatment she needs, and I won’t ruin everything we’ve worked for.
As if he can read my mind, Thorne speaks up, “Then, I suggest ou read the contract carefully.”
Even though I know what I need to do, I do as he says. I read through the contract, taking in the information about what my new life will be like. I’ll stay in this house, living here and waiting for Thorne to visit.
My tasks will be simple, sleep with Thorne when he comes or calls for me, and he will take care of my future. Ther’s also a clause that states, “Signee will not be allowed to fall in love with or pester Thorne.”
Pester? Does he think I’m going to hang around him when I’m not meant to? My mind goes back to the women at the hospital who were gossiping about him. They all wanted a piece of him, if there words were to be believed, which I guess is why he added the pestering part.
I continue reading, finding anther statement about this agreement being only about sex and not love.
The thing that catches me off guard the most is the last statement, that reads, “Signee is forbidden from being in relationships with other men.” I notice there’s nothing about Thorne keeping himself out of secondary relationships.
“I don’t care who you sleep with,” I say, gathering all my courage to look up at Thorne. “But there is one thing: if you have a girlfriend, I will walk away.”
Thorne’s eyebrows pull together in irritation, surprisingly, as he grits, “You don’t care?”
“If I cared, would I be violating the ‘humans are not allowed to purse the Alpha’ rule” I question, lifting a brow. “Is that what you want, Thorne? For me to demand that you take no other woman while we have this contract between us?”
He watches me, his eyes narrowing in search of something. The longer I look at him, the braver I get. Unless this is my mind suddenly becoming clouded with stupidity. Yeah, that’s probably it. Why else would I- a human who is so much weaker than him- provoke an Alpha?
Instead of waiting for his answer, which seems like it isn’t coming, I ask, “When does this contract end?”
“I decide that, and it won’t be long,” he answers, and I can only hope he’s right.
In this pack, and in others, Thorne’s word is law. He’s the strongest Alpha, and can do almost anything he wants, so I have no illusions that this contract will restrict him in the slightest. I can just hope that Thorne grows bored of me quickly.
“Alright,” I murmur, grabbing the pen in his hand. Our fingers brush, and I ignore the small shock that zips through my body. I pull away quickly, bite my lip, and sign my life away.
With shaking hands, I pick up the papers and hold them out to Thorne. He in turn, places a black card in my hand, smiling as our eyes connect.
What I’ve just done hits me, and my face heats up. Nevertheless, I encourage myself to stand up and walk to Thorne, sitting next to him.
“Shall we start now?”
