It was the sun shining through the windows that woke me the following morning. My body was still so incredibly relaxed I thought I could sleep for a week. As came further into consciousness, memories of the events of the night before happily flashed through my mind. The treatment I’d received from Lucas was by far my favorite part.
I shifted in order to sink further into the mattress and closer to my impressive mate. He mumbled something in his sleep and threw an arm over me. I couldn’t help but smile. I laced my fingers in his and tried to fall back asleep, but found myself tracing lines along his hand instead. Contemplating how much my life had changed in just a few short months. Nova yawned and stretched in the back of my mind, listening at the edge of my thoughts with contentment.
“It’s entirely too early for you to be awake,” Lucas grumbled in my ear.
I chuckled. “I’m not sure that’s entirely true,” I said. “I have no idea what time it is.”
“Doesn’t matter,” he stated.
“I’m not sure your pack would agree,” I replied lightly.
“Our pack,” he growled, pulling me tighter. “And they’ll live.”
“I will admit that spending the day in bed does sound enticing,” I stated, wiggling closer to him.
Lucas growled and buried his face in my neck. “That can easily be arranged, princess.”
I groaned as he kissed along my shoulder, sending waves of desire through my core. One second his hard length we pressed against my back and the next he had spun me around to face him. His mouth claiming mine aggressively. I happily returned the sentiment. His knee moved between my knees, pushing them apart as he repositioned.
We moaned together as he slid inside me. His hand moved to cradle the back of my leg as he held himself up on his elbow. My fingers laced in his hair as his hips thrust slowly. Savoring the intimacy of the moment. We came together, illuminated by the ray of sun shining through the curtains.
We lay there for a little while longer. Just being close to each other as the knot subsided. I ran my hand along his beard as he traced his fingers along my back.
“I love you,” I told him, feeling overwhelmed by the emotion.
Lucas smiled. A pure and innocent smile that I so rarely got to see making me feel like I would come out of my skin with joy.
“I love you, Sutton,” he replied. “You’re everything to me.”
His lips pressed against mine again and he pushed me onto my back. Hovering over me, he kissed down my jaw, along my neck, and over my chest.
“I want you to come with me today,” he said.
“Where?” I asked, only half paying attention to what he was saying.
He pulled back, giving me the chance to refocus my thoughts.
“We found where your attacker had been staying last night,” he explained. “There was a cell phone among his things. I’m taking it to someone who can help us get access to the data.”
I pushed up to my elbows. “Do you think it will help us find who he was working with?” I asked.
Lucas nodded. “I want us to work together on this,” he said. “Whoever was helping him betrayed both of us.”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “Are you sure it’s not because you just can’t keep your hands off me?” I teased.
Lucas chuckled. “Definitely that too,” he stated. “I’ve shared you enough lately. It’s time to show the pack just how strong we are together. I want you by my side when we track this asshole down.”
I bit my lip, gauging what I was feeling about the proposal.
“Okay,” I replied with a nod. “Yeah, I want to be there. I want to know.”
Lucas kissed my nose. “Good,” he stated. “Unfortunately, that means we have to get up.” I moaned my disappointment, making Lucas chuckle. “You get in the shower first, princess. I’ll be right behind you. I need to put the phone on a charger.”
“Alright,” I whined as he slid out of bed.
At least I could enjoy the sight of him walking away. Once he was gone, I dragged myself up and into the bathroom. A move that made me realize that was a bit sore from last night’s escapades. As the water warmed up, I examined the tender spots. Luas had certainly enjoyed himself as much as I had. There were slight bruises around my waist and hips from his hands that were already yellowed along with a couple of pricks from his claws.
I knew intense encounters could push the boundaries of the shift. Especially for male lycans. It had been that way when we had marked each other. But after experiencing that, I didn’t think anything could come close to inspiring that kind of reaction.
A grin spread across my face. While the marks were familiar, the only memories they conjured were ones of Lucas. Amazing, spectacular, earth-shattering memories of pure pleasure. Nothing more. No one else.
The air in the room shifted, suddenly becoming heavier. Lucas had come in. His eyes were fixed on the same spots I had been examining. The color drained from his face and he looked like he would gag.
I should have felt bad. I should have wanted to cover myself. But all I could do was laugh and pull him toward me.
“Sutton, I…”
“Don’t,” I stopped him with a smile. “They’ll be gone in a few hours and until then, I’ll wear them like a badge of honor.”
“Sutton…” Lucas balked.
“I know exactly what these marks mean, Lucas,” I told him. “They’re all yours. And I could never imagine feeling so desirable. So incredibly wanted.”
Lucas choked, his mood lightening. “Princess, you’re the sexiest that ever lived. Don’t ever doubt that.”
I smiled. “And I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives having you show me.”
