I escorted Sutton off the private plane at the Silverstreak airfield the day before the official opening of the conclave. It was customary to arrive early to exchange pleasantries and general updates as well as introduce possible topics to the hosting pack. In this instance, the attention would likely be on Sutton. She insisted that Motty come along with us and I felt it was a good idea. There may be times when having someone familiar would be a welcome distraction. These events could easily become tedious.
We were met on the tarmac by Beta Octin.
“Good afternoon, Alpha Lucas. Beta Jaden,” he greeted. He turned to Sutton. “This must be Luna Sutton and your assistant. Martha, I believe?”
“And you are Beta Octin, correct?” Sutton replied, extending a hand.
His eyebrows raised in surprise as he grinned. He took her hand with an amused chuckle.
“I guess there’s no need for formal introductions,” he said. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Luna. If you all would follow me, we have a vehicle ready to take you to the lodge.”
With a possessive arm around Sutton’s waist, we followed him through the private airport to the front parking lot. There were three SUVs waiting just outside the front of the building. The lead and rear vehicles would have guards. We would be in the center. It was a natural precaution for these events.
Motty helped the attendants load our luggage up. She would ride in one of the security vehicles. I guided Sutton into the back seat and slid in next to her. Jaden took the front passenger seat while Beta Octin drove. Alpha Renward’s private lodge wasn’t far from the airfield. A short twenty-minute drive through the woods later, we arrived outside a large, three-story log cabin. Taking Sutton’s hand as she got out of the SUV, I led her up the front stairs to the landing.
“Alpha Lucas,” a woman called out happily as she came through the door to meet us, “we’re so pleased you could join us. And here is your beautiful new mate. Luna Sutton, we are honored to meet you.”
“Sutton, this is Luna Darcy,” I introduced. “Alpha Renward’s mate. We are glad to be here, Luna. I’m eager to see what we can accomplish over the next few days.”
“I think we both can make that claim,” Alpha Renward said as he walked through the door. “Please, come in. Excuse my mate’s misplaced manners. She’s a bit overexcited.”
Luna Darcy shoved his shoulder before ushering us inside. Motty was already going ahead of us to the rooms as the wait staff took our bags. Jaden, who was already familiar with the building, followed to handle some of his own tasks. Our hosts gave us a quick tour of the main floor, making the customary pleasantries, before having us shown up to our rooms.
“I hung up your dresses, Luna,” Motty informed Sutton. “As well as Alpha’s suits. And unpacked your toiletries. I left the rest for you to get situated if you wish to.”
“Thank you, Motty,” Sutton said. “You can go take care of your things. I’ll let you know if I need you again.”
“Yes, Luna,” Motty replied. “I’m just across the hall.”
She left us and Sutton let out a long, heavy sigh. I saw her whole body relax.
“Was I completely awkward?” she asked as she fell onto a chaise lounge.
I removed my suit jacket and laid it over the back of a chair as I headed in her direction. Dropping to a knee, I leaned over her. My lips grazed along her jawline.
“You were perfect, baby,” I told her.
My hand slid up her thigh, slipping beneath her skirt. She pressed her legs together but it didn’t prevent me from catching the scent of the reaction I was causing. I chuckled as my lips moved to her neck. Her breath hitched as I tasted her, my hand moving closer to its destination.
“Lucas…” she breathed, “we just got here.”
“And…”
Rhonen crept into my mind, instigating my desire. With every passing day, it became harder and harder to keep my hands off of my little mate. These days, she should be relieved we even make it somewhere private. I tried not to think about how intense it would get after we marked each other or when she went into heat. I would definitely be in trouble then.
Sutton moaned as I pressed my fingers to her apex. Her legs parting from desire. My mouth took hers, encouraging that unbridled passion of hers to grow as I teased her clit beneath the fabric of her panties. I was about to take things further when there was a knock on the door.
I growled in frustration. I would have ignored it but there was an urgency to the sound. I opened the mind-link and Jaden immediately came through.
‘Get out here,’ he barked. ‘Leave Sutton. We have a huge problem.’
I grunted, resting my forehead against Sutton’s.
“I’m needed,” I told her. “You should stay here. Get some rest. We have a few hours until dinner.”
She nodded her response, her eyes still heavy with lust. I wouldn’t have been able to pull myself away if it wasn’t for Jaden banging on the door again.
‘Now, Lucas.’
“Go,” she whispered.
I kissed her one more time before dragging myself to my feet. Grabbing my suit jacket on my way out, I left the suite. Jaden was already heading down the hall. I rushed to catch up with him.
“This better be life or death, Jaden,” I grumbled.
Jaden stopped and turned to me. The look in his eyes told me it was just that. My gut tightened and my head cleared. Rhonen shot to the front of my consciousness. Jaden looked up and down the hall, pausing at our door before stepping in closer.
“Anders is on his way here,” he said. “Mason is with him.”
