Jack emerged from his room a little before Lucas returned. He didn’t really say anything to me but he did eat the breakfast I offered him. I took that as a win. Once Lucas got home, he went to shower and get dressed for the day while Lucas told me about his conversation with Hunter this morning. I had to admit it was a relief to know my sisters were safe at home and that they were being watched over.
Narya and Lorelei arrived shortly after — Narya with a basket on her and Lorelei with a large canvas bag over her shoulder. Both with huge smiles on their faces.
They were up to something.
“Um… I guess you two have decided where we’re going to eat,” I stated curiously.
“We have,” Narya said. “You ready?”
“Lead the way,” I said, starting to feed off of their excitement.
We made our way through the packhouse and I honestly had no idea where they were taking me. Not until they bypassed the parking deck and started down a walking path onto the grounds.
“What are you guys up to?” I pressed.
“Well, Tarrah was bummed that she wasn’t here to help get the planning started, but she knew it would drive us crazy if we had to wait on her,” Lorelei explained. “So, she called us and gave us a few ideas to get started with.”
“Which is when we came up with the idea of having a picnic,” Narya said.
“A picnic?” I asked. “While that sounds lovely, I’m not sure what that would have to do with a Luna ceremony. Grant it, I can’t say I know anything about a Luna ceremony.”
“That’s just it,” Lorelei said. “As the Luna, you can do pretty much anything you want as far theme, location, date, time, etc. The only must have is the oath taking ritual.”
“And what does that entail?” I asked. “There a few variations, but there’s not many differences. Since you two are already marked, then you’re already officially part of the pack. So, mostly, you’ll just be dealing with the promise of leadership and pack loyalty. But we can go over that later. Today, we wanted to focus on the fun bit.”
“And that would be?”
“This…” Narya said.
As we were talking, we continued to walk. We had come to a picnic area not far from the packhouse. At least, that’s what I assumed it was. There were a few wooden picnic tables and the remnants of landscaping. The area wasn’t overgrown or unmaintained per se, but it was clear they hadn’t been any effort to do more than manage the area.
“Um… okay,” I said awkwardly. “I may be completely dense if this should more obvious, but I still don’t know what you guys are trying to say.”
They chuckled a little and pulled me to the nearest picnic table. They set their stuff down and invited me to sit as they started to unpack our meal.
“The packhouse grounds are extensive,” Narya said. “And that’s nice and all. And we definitely utilize them but they are a bit wild.”
“Which isn’t always the vibes lycans are going for,” Lorelei said. “Just because we’re part animal, doesn’t mean we don’t like to stop and smell the roses. Or, you know, have roses to smell in the first place. And Tarrah informed us that that is something that you are a bit of expert in.”
“I wouldn’t say I’m an expert…”
“What we’re trying to get at, is that this area would be perfect to fix up and develop,” Narya interjected. “I think the everyone living in or visiting the packhouse would really appreciate a beautiful garden. Your Luna ceremony would make a perfect unveiling of the project.”
“Oh…”
I looked around the area. The section with the picnic tables was set along the tree line but other than that it was surrounded by areas of brush with footpaths weaving through them. I could see why they believed it wasn’t in the most… inspiring shape. And I couldn’t deny that the more I looked at it, the more ideas I got.
“I don’t know,” I said. “That would be a huge undertaking. And expensive. I’d have to hire people to help and I can’t really claim to know enough about landscaping and gardening for a project this size. I don’t know if Lucas would even approve of the investment.”
The two women shared a look with smug grins on their faces.
“Who do you think sent us in this direction?” Lorelei stated.
“What?” I laughed. “How…”
“I called after we spoke to you and Tarrah,” Narya admitted. “Tarrah did give us some ideas, but we wanted to make this a momentous occasion for you. To do that while sticking to something you would be happy and comfortable with, we would need his approval on some things. Once we brought up the idea of a possible outdoor event, he admitted that he already had something in mind. Apparently, the money has already been set aside.”
“And he’s asked us to help you make a list of possible contractors and suppliers on top of any ceremony specific plans,” Lorelei said.
“Oh, guys, no, I couldn’t ask you to do that,” I said. “You already have work and lives and would you even know anyone who would qualify?”
“Between Tarrah, Anya, Simone, and us, I’m sure we can compile a decent selection,” Lorelei giggled. “We’re not exactly low profile within the pack ourselves.”
“Of course,” I said, mortified that I may have offended them. “I didn’t mean…”
“Girl, we know what you meant,” Narya said, covering my hand with hers. “And we appreciate you trying to look out for us. It’s one of the reasons we are so excited to have you as our Luna.”
I squeezed her hand. I didn’t know how badly I needed to hear that until she said it.
“So, Luna…” Lorelei pressed, “what do you say? Is this the future venue for your Luna ceremony?”
I looked around again, taking in the huge job this would be. And all I felt was… excitement. Especially knowing that I already had Lucas’ support and encouragement.
I turned back to my new friends.
“When should we get started?”
