Kyle's POV
"Hey, bastard!" Lui called out before I could walk to the car.
I turned and glared at him for a second, then smirked.
"What is it, Alpha virgin?" I asked in a playfully mocking tone.
"Were you going to leave without saying a word to me?" He asked.
I glanced behind and noticed how Dad was standing outside his car with a wide smile. He looked eager to meet me.
"Well, we can always call each other. I memorized your pack's phone number, and you did the same with mine," I answered simply.
"That's not it, Kyle!" He exclaimed as I laughed loudly.
Lui was my best friend whom I met at the training camp. At first, I had no one to talk to because I avoided Larson badly. I felt left out in most things, and I was slow in learning. Whenever Dad would ask if I was doing okay, I would lie about it, until one day Lui overheard our phone conversation. When he approached me and told me how I was acting untrue to myself and weak for an Alpha, we fought.
Yep, the dude was way disrespectful, and I just couldn't let it slide. We both were ordered to clean the training field and run the whole territory as punishment. The task wasn't easy, but because we were both very competitive Alphas, we managed to complete it in just a few hours.
As time went on, we would mock each other and end up being punished. A few times, we were forced to partner up in training, and it sucked because we injured each other.
With time, our phones were taken away, and soon after, we were forbidden to write letters to anyone.
The time we began talking to each other as friends was when I realized who his parents were. He was Sherry's child, and Sherry was my father's friend.
I figured if we always fought, then our future paths wouldn't cross. His pack was well-known as the library of all territories because they had information that was unheard of and rare to find. He was an important Alpha I needed by my side as either a friend or an ally. That's why I chose to let go of my pride and apologize to him first.
He was weirded out by my apology but later accepted it, and from then on, we became close.
I got to learn how he had feelings for this vampire girl in his pack, and I told him how I too had feelings for a born vampire. We laughed about how we could share such an experience and bonded over that. Pairing in training became fun, and we worked very hard. In no time, we were at the top of the camp in both training and studies. The guardians and trainers were so impressed with our friendship too that they always referred to us as a good example of partners.
Most of the other Alphas were offended and decided to avoid us, but that didn't mean a thing to us because we didn't give a damn. My relationship with Larson was strictly that of an Alpha and his Beta. He, too, worked hard and came off as third in everything we did. He was much quieter than he was in the past, and every time I saw him, he was either studying or training.
It was strange, but I liked it that way and chose to just ignore him. The times that we talked were usually when his parents or mine came to visit. He would look around and then ask the most stupid question, "When will Roxanne come to check up on us?" I hated that because it angered me a lot.
Years had gone by, and he still couldn't let go. Was he obsessed with her? He was so messed up, and I hated that about him a lot.
"Lui, no matter what, I will pay you a visit. I can't just abandon my little brother, can I?" I asked.
"What the hell, I am neither younger than you nor your brother," he responded harshly as I laughed.
"Ouch, that hurt," I said, then rubbed my hand against my chest playfully.
"Seriously Kyle, do contact me once you reach your pack safely. I will be waiting for your call, brother," he said seriously as I dropped my hand and nodded.
"I will, so do take care of yourself. And when you do see the angel that holds your heart, do confess to her. You deserve her as much as she deserves you," I answered seriously.
"You too," he said and then moved closer and gave me a quick hug.
When he pulled back, I patted his shoulder lightly.
"Also, get rid of that damn name, it sounds like ....,"
"Screw you, I have an Asian uncle and an aunt who adores him, they were the ones who suggested this name. I love it a lot and I won't do shit to change it," he said at the top of his voice, cutting me off.
I burst out into laughter then stopped after a few minutes.
His name was very cool, and I liked it a lot, although I usually used it to pick on him whenever he got serious with me.
"Son!" Dad called loudly.
"Go, hurry up, that Alpha scares the living shit out of me," Lui said in a low tone as I chuckled softly.
The first time he met my dad, he couldn't look him in the eyes or say a word. As time went on, he tried his best to be comfortable around him but still failed miserably.
"He can't do shit to you," I answered.
"Oh no, you don't see him as he really is because he is your father. I have heard a lot about him from my father and my mother. That Alpha is hellish and scary," he said loudly.
"I can hear you, pup!" Dad yelled at the top of his voice.
"I'm sorry, sir!" Lui screamed loudly and then glared at me.
"Fine, I'll leave. Just take care of yourself and kill whoever stands in your way of power, brother," I said and then turned and walked to where Dad was.
Larson was already seated in the car waiting for me.
"You let your cousin move all the luggage, and then you went on to make him wait, why is that?" my father asked seriously.
"Because he is a Beta and that is his duty," I answered simply, then moved in front of him and smiled.
"Son, you can't just treat..."
"I'm so happy to see you and I'm happy to go and see mom. I terribly miss her," I said, cutting him off.
"Well, she wanted to come with me but I stopped her. The journey is long, and I wouldn't want her to endure such a bumpy road. Also, you will see her soon; she can't wait too," he answered and then got into the car.
I too got in and looked at Larson in the rearview mirror. He was gazing at the window as if he was deep
in thought.
When the car began to move, I focused on the road and chose to keep quiet.
