Akira's POV
I dressed up quickly while looking out the window to make sure Lui wouldn't leave me behind. Our house was facing the pack house, and that was a relief for me.
I said no when asked if I wanted to follow Lui and the others because I was upset over how he was holding Tamara in his arms. Why wouldn't he call me or hold me easily like he did with her? I was his mate, after all! I wanted nothing to do with him at that moment, so I reacted without much thought.
But then after going back home, he was all I could think of. Throughout the night, my wolf was filling my head with scenarios of our mate being intimate with her at Ian's pack. I felt hopeless, and I couldn't stop the tears that rolled down my cheeks. I didn't want to seem clingy or bad, but I knew what I had to do, and that was to go with him.
Being close to him would not only make him fall in love with me, but it would keep Tamara away.
"Honey, are you okay?" My mother asked softly as soon as she walked into the living room.
"Yes," I answered without looking at her.
"No, you are not. You don't dress up in the living room no matter how much in a hurry you are," she said seriously.
"Mother, I am fine, and the reason I decided to dress up in the living room is that dad has already left for training," I answered.
"Aki," she called with emphasis, making me turn and face her.
She usually called me that whenever she was upset or sad over my actions.
"Tell me the truth, now," she ordered seriously.
"Tell her," my wolf whispered softly as I sighed heavily.
"Lui, Yuki, and Tamara are going to visit Ian's pack, and I have decided to tag along," I said softly.
She moved closer and then pressed her cold hand on my cheek.
"I understand how much you love and adore your friends, but I can't allow you to go out with them, much less in a wolf's den," she said as I glared at her.
"What do you mean wolf's den? It's Alpha Ian's pack! Moreover, we are already living in a wolf's den," I exclaimed.
"We are, but that's because we had no choice at first, and Damon is nothing like what those selfish Alphas are. He is kind and friendly," she said angrily, then dropped her hand.
"What makes you think Alpha Ian is bad?" I asked coldly.
"Because I know him more than you do. Child, you do not know what I and your father know, that pack is not a good place to be," she answered as I turned to look out and check if Lui was outside.
"Honey, I know that you think I'm being unfair right now, but I'm just trying to protect you," she whispered.
"You are being more than unfair, mother," I answered and then turned back to face her again.
"I am not a little kid who needs protection, I am a hybrid who has vampire abilities. And just so you know, Lui is an Alpha and Tamara is strong too. There is no way they would ever let me be in danger," I proudly said.
"You can't leave, young lady, your father needs to hear of this," she said and then turned to walk out of the room.
"Mother, please, if you tell dad I won't be able to leave," I pleaded, knowing very well how he was going to make sure I stay back.
"That's not my problem," she answered.
"Tell her," my wolf growled.
"He is my mate!" I yelled, making her stop in her tracks.
"What?" she asked in a low tone, then turned and faced me.
"I said he is my mate, okay," I repeated the words.
"Who?" she exclaimed.
I chewed on my tongue, trying to keep my mouth shut.
"Ian's pup?" she asked in shock.
"No, mother," I answered loudly.
"Then who? Lui?" she asked.
I sighed softly and then lowered my gaze to the floor.
"Oh my goodness, Akira," she whispered as I frowned deeply, feeling bad for keeping the truth from her.
I knew how my mother wasn't fond of werewolves, and that was one of the reasons I was okay with keeping my relationship with Lui a secret.
"That's great news!" she shouted, shocking me.
I quickly looked at her with my mouth agape.
Was she seriously teasing me right now, or was she being serious?
"Mother, I know how you aren't so fond of werewolves. There is no need for you to lie," I said softly.
"Honey, I am not lying to you," she answered and then moved closer and grabbed my hands.
"Your father and I are always grateful to Damon and Sherry for taking us in when no one was there for us. Although your father is a lead warrior and I try so hard to help Sherry with whatever she wants, I still felt like that wasn't enough. At some point, I wished that their son would take a liking to you, that way we could truly become a family. Who would have guessed that my playful thoughts could come to life!" she said at the top of her voice.
"Mother, I understand what you are saying but Lui and I aren't so close," I pointed out sadly.
"Honey, that's how some relationships start. You get to know and love each other with time. I understand that he was away and how new things are for you, so do take your time. Lui is more like his father, a very hardworking, kind leader. You standing by his side would be good for him," she said as I forced a smile on my face.
I wanted to tell her how he wasn't in love with me but Tamara, yet I couldn't bring myself to do so. I didn't want her to feel sorry for me.
"Let me share this news with your father; he will be so happy," she said excitedly.
"No, don't tell anyone, please," I whispered.
"Why?" she asked.
"I am not ready. I want everyone to know of this when I feel ready to hold Lui's hand and stand by his side," I answered.
"Oh, honey," she whispered and then wrapped her arms around me.
"I really understand how you feel, so I will keep my mouth shut. But do tell everyone soon, okay. Sooner or later they will find out because mates can't keep away from each other for long," she said as I nodded and then blinked back the forming tears.
"Now then, let me quickly pack a few needed things for you. Since you will be going with your mate, I feel very much at ease," she said when she pulled back.
"Thank you," I whispered huskily.
She smiled and then turned and walked out of the room.
I turned and looked out the window with a soft sigh.
"Will he ever love us?" I asked my wolf silently, but no response came.
When I saw Lui walking towards a car with a suitcase in his hand, I quickly ran out of the house and rushed to where he was.
He was about to get into the car after putting the suitcase in the boot when he stopped and quickly turned to look at me.
I was breathing heavily as I moved closer to stand in front of him.
"Morning," I said calmly.
"Are you here to see me off?" He asked and then looked at the entrance when Yuki and Tamara came out with their suitcases.
"Come on, you two. I didn't say we are going to stay there forever. Why did you carry such big suitcases?" He asked loudly.
"It's not our fault that you chose the small one, oh morning Akira," Yuki greeted cheerfully.
"Morning,Yuki.Morning Tamara," I said softly with a smile.
"Mmmm," Lui murmured and then frowned deeply.
"Thank you for taking your time to come see us off," he said softly as I swallowed hard.
"The thing is...." I trailed off, trying so hard to tell him the truth.
"Honey, were you planning on leaving without your suitcase?" My mother asked loudly as she approached us.
Everyone looked at me in surprise, and I wished the ground could open up and swallow me.
"You are coming with us?" Lui asked at the top of his voice.
"Of course she is, and I'm counting on you, soon-to-be Alpha, to protect her. My daughter rarely goes out, and she usually has no friends to talk to besides Yuki and Tamara," she answered.
"Hell yeah," he said proudly and then rushed to the other side of the car to open the door.
"Come and get in, Akira, before you change your mind. You are sitting with me in front," he said proudly as Yuki whined like a kid.
"Why? I wanted to sit with you," she said, then pouted.
"Yuki, let's first put the suitcases in the boot," Tamara said loudly, then went to open the boot with Yuki behind.
"Honey, go on. I will put this suitcase in the boot and then talk to your father about your trip. He will be upset, but I will reason with him, while I keep my lips sealed," she said.
I moved and hugged her happily.
"Thank you, mother. I will take care of myself and come back soon," I answered softly and then pulled back.
"Go on," she said simply. I nodded and then went around to get into the car.
Lui smirked and closed the door once I was seated.
"Our journey will be fun," he said, and then he walked to the entrance where Alpha Damon and Luna Sherry stood to see us off.
The journey was really going to be long, but I was looking forward to it because I was going to spend time with Lui, my mate.
