Lui's POV
"Will Micah be okay with us leaving her behind?" Yuki asked as I drove.
"Well, I think so. After all, she left for human territory with Dusk the same day Lui came from his training camp. So she won't be that upset because she won't know, unless Beta Alec tells her," Tamara answered simply.
I too was wondering where she was, but I couldn't ask. Micah was Alec's stepdaughter who was human. To be precise, she was Alec's mate's niece. She grew up in the pack with us because Alec's mate (Olivia) chose to be with him. Her father, Jay, was human too, and he visited the pack most of the time with my father's permission. Micah was usually reserved and quiet because she was older than us, but there were times she acted childishly, and that was when her brother Dusk was picking on her. Dusk was Alec and Olivia's son who was our age and my chosen Beta.
Most pack members expected him to go with me to the training camp, but my father chose to have him stay because of his health. Dusk was born weak, unlike any Beta I had ever come across. He rarely managed to hold his stance in arm-to-arm combat, and his wolf couldn't keep its ground in a fight despite it being huge and looking aggressive. Most pack members blamed Alec for being mated to a human, while some thought it was his fault for not being very hard on his own pup.
Dusk heard it all; perhaps that's why he usually kept to himself and his family. I, too, was to blame because Yuki and I kept to ourselves until Tamara came into our pack.
It was shocking, but we all had issues and chose to keep away from each other. If not for Tamara, I would have never known how to socialize easily, and if not for me leaving the pack, Yuki, Tamara, and Akira wouldn't have been very close. Those were my thoughts.
"So are you guys pretty close to her?" I asked, then looked in the rearview mirror for a second before focusing back on the road.
"Well, it so happened when you left for training. We aren't the best of friends, but we are still like family, so we do talk and have a girls' night once in a while. As for Dusk, he is scary as hell. That boy is super freaky. When you talk to him, all he does is stare in silence. If not for his height and great build, some pack members would have been mistaking him for a male omega," Yuki answered.
"Don't you think your words are very disrespectful? Our father may be the Alpha of the pack, but you are an omega, and Dusk is still of Beta blood. Soon, when I take over the pack, he will be my right hand," I said seriously.
"I know that, okay? I was just stating facts about him," she answered in a loud voice.
I looked at Akira and noticed how she had her back towards me. She was looking outside the window in silence, and all through the way, she said nothing.
"Tamara, will you go to your parents' house after we reach the pack, or will you spend a few days at the pack with us?" Yuki asked.
I, too, was curious about that. I wanted to know if she was going to see her parents the same day we would reach the pack or stay by my side. She was obviously going to stay by my side because that was the whole point of her going with me.
"I haven't decided yet," she answered softly.
"Alright. You know, if I am to be honest, I feel nervous going to that pack. Rumor has it that Alpha Ian was one of the feared Alphas in all territories. Not that he was strong, which he was, but because he was ruthless and used to kill anyone who stood in his way without remorse," Yuki said as I frowned deeply.
Why was she speaking nonsense non-stop?
"I think my mother heard that rumor too because she was fixated on him being bad," Akira responded, surprising me.
"He is not bad at all, and what you heard is not a rumor. Our pack is the center of all information, so when the members do say something, then it is the truth or close to it. I heard from my mother how Alpha Ian was that way until he met the love of his life. Heck, my mother wasn't all that kind until she met my father and changed for the better. So don't think he is an evil Alpha because that was all in the past. He is kind and good to everyone, and he is my mother's best friend," Tamara said seriously with an angry expression on her face.
"Yes, and not only that, he is Kyle's father, and Kyle is like a brother to me. When I do take over as Alpha, the very first thing I'll do is form an alliance with his pack," I proudly let everyone know.
"That's just so lame. The very first thing you need to do is find your mate, brother. What if she ends up with another because you are so focused on the pack than finding her? You will end up being heartbroken and all alone," Yuki said loudly then laughed.
I angrily stepped on the brakes with a rapidly beating heart.
"Gosh, Lu!" Tamara exclaimed.
"Do you want to kill us?" Yuki yelled at the top of her voice.
"I'm sorry, okay, but your yapping and nagging are getting to me right now. Can you stop with the bullshit about mates already? You were at it that day in the field, and you are still at it now. Do you think that makes me happy? What about you, why don't you find a mate and settle down? You will grow old with time, and boy, no one will ever want you if that happens. You talk too much and at times act like a toddler. It's quite shocking that you are my twin because I'm nothing like you," I said loudly and then looked in the rearview mirror when a few minutes went by in silence.
Tamara and she were looking at me with shocked expressions.
"Lui, did I do something to make you hate me?" she asked in a cracked voice.
"Lu, that is a little too harsh towards your sister," Tamara said softly.
I angrily stepped out of the car and took a deep breath.
When I released it, I brushed my hand through my hair.
Gosh, she was very annoying and too talkative!
When the door opened and Akira came out, I walked ahead trying to avoid her. I hated that I was showing her such a side just because of my stupid sister.
"Are you alright?" She asked as I stopped in my tracks.
"I am alright. Also, I want to apologize for snapping at her like that. I just wonder if it was the right decision for me to take her with me," I answered honestly.
When she pressed her hand on my shoulder, I quickly turned and faced her. The tingles I felt instantly made me feel calmer.
"Can I hold your hand for a minute?" I asked seriously.
For a second, I saw refusal in her eyes, but I was surprised when she extended her hand to me.
I smiled and then took a deep breath. That's all I needed to feel at ease, my mate's touch and skin against my own.
