August's POV
Noisy, the whole room was so noisy now that Whitney, Uncle, the twins, and Lexi were here. They couldn't stop chatting about how happy they were to see Tamara after a long time.
Nana was crying so much that Blade and his mate were doing everything in their power to make her stop. The only ones missing were Sharon, Angelina, Logan, Garren, and his family. It was surprising, but I didn't want to ask and ruin everyone's day.
It was such a joyous occasion that I was wondering if what I was about to say was the right thing.
"You are quiet, what's up with that?" Whitney asked when she approached me.
"Do you perhaps still miss Sharon?" She asked as I raised a brow in disbelief.
"Seriously, after all these years you still think I'm in love with her? She already has Logan. I'm over her like I am over Lexi," I answered coldly.
"Well, it would be quite dumb to still be stuck on them when they already have mates. And also, be careful with how you speak to me; you are still facing your Alpha," she warned lightly as I gave a low bow.
"Forgive me, it's just that years of staying with Felix have gotten to me," I answered, then frowned deeply when she laughed softly.
"I was just messing with you; feel free to talk to me informally. You are like a little brother to me after all," she said, then extended her hand to me.
I smiled and took a step forward, hugging her.
I had missed her and the pack a lot these past years. If it wasn't for my wolf stopping me, I could have been calling her every week and visiting her frequently.
He had to remind me how she had her own life and family to look after whenever I wanted to write a letter or text her.
"You owe me a drink. And what happened to "Tell Whitney that I'll be visiting the pack every month?" she asked after she had pulled back.
"I know I told the twins to tell you that, but believe me when I say I tried to visit every month. Sadly, I had a lot of work to do," I lied.
"Look at you, lying to me as if I don't know you very well," she said as I lowered my gaze to the ground.
"Anyway, you look happy," she whispered as I smiled widely.
"That's because there is a reason for that," I answered and then looked up and clapped twice loudly, getting everyone's attention.
The room went quiet as they all waited for me to speak.
"I am sorry for doing this, but I really needed your attention," I said loudly and then cleared my throat.
"So these past few years in human territory have been a blessing to me. Not only because I've had the pleasure of living with amazing folks, but also because I was given an amazing job that kept my mind occupied. Meeting new people through my work has made me see things differently, and it has helped me come to terms with being without a mate," I said, as everyone gave me a sympathetic look.
"Hey, I am okay right now, but back then I wasn't. Every female I fell in love with never loved me back, and it wasn't their fault because they too had someone they wanted to be with. That's when it hit me, maybe my mate was dead or already mated to another! Such chances were high. So instead of waiting like a fool and crying every time my heart broke, I needed to do something. "So why not let go of fate and negative thoughts and just live in the moment," I told myself then smiled.
"And that's when I began accepting advances from different females, not my kind because every she-wolf I got interested in ended up disappointing me. I spent time with other supernatural beings and went to parties whenever I had time. That's when I met this human, her name is Teresa. She was not only down-to-earth gorgeous, she had a very good personality, and our hobbies were alike. We just clicked and decided to exchange numbers. From then on, we went on a few dates, and then we began dating," I said as Whitney looked at me with an expression that felt like she wanted to know where my story was going.
"For four good years, I hid what I am because I was scared of her leaving me. To be honest, I am still scared of her leaving me, but then again, if I do love her, then there shouldn't be any secrets between us," I said as Ian took a few steps closer.
"So are you planning on telling her about our kind?" He asked seriously.
"I proposed to her a few days ago, and she agreed. We talked about moving in together after a month, but before that, I wanted to let everyone know. I will tell her everything there is to know about our kind before we move in. If she doesn't accept me, then I will try and sway her heart for as long as I can. If she does accept me, then I will bring her here so you guys can all meet her," I answered seriously.
"How old is she?" Uncle asked.
"She's thirty-eight," I answered calmly.
"That old? What happened to Twinkle?" Evan asked.
"Well, my fiancée isn't that old, also I'm in my late forties. And did you not hear me when I said how I had fun with a few females that approached me with intentions to fuck?" I asked back seriously.
"Yeah, right, you look like you are in your late twenties if you ask me," Ryan said with a chuckle.
"That's because we age slowly! And so we are clear, she too looks amazing for her age, believe me," I answered, then smiled when the thought of her flashed in my mind.
"Fine, but why was she single before meeting you? Is she a secret psychopath?" Felix asked, making me scowl.
Why was she even asking when she knew her? Although they didn't talk much whenever I came to the club with her, they still talked here and there.
"I was about to say this, she was once married when she was twenty. Her marriage didn't work out so she divorced and separated from the man. She has one child and she stays alone because the child chose to stay with the father rather than with her," I answered as Neo shook his head.
"Now that's surprising. Did she tell you exactly what led to her divorce?" He asked.
"Yes, she did. The man used to hit her whenever he was drunk," I answered simply.
"And after divorcing him, she had been single for all those years?" Uncle asked.
"No, she dated about four other guys before me and then stayed single after her last relationship didn't work out. Seriously, guys, why are you asking me so many questions? It's as if it's a crime that I found someone I wanted to be with," I said loudly.
"We are just shocked over the news, and at the same time, we are trying to look out for you and get to know her a little bit more through you," Whitney answered as I glared at her.
"Spare me your care, Whitney. You speak as if we aren't the worst. Most of our kind meet in a damn day and fuck. They even mate and mark each other, and you don't get to hear anyone ask them the questions that you are asking me now. Is it because she is human that you are acting like this? I thought you guys were going to be happy for me! The question I expected you to ask me was when I was going to get married," I said angrily.
"August, you are right. We weren't supposed to act like this or ask you such questions. So please don't be upset," Amelia said as I sighed heavily.
"You know what? I don't care if you like her or not. But after I tell her what I am and she does accept me, I will meet her child and her ex-husband, then I will bring her here to meet you guys.If you won't accept her, fine. If you do, that's fine too. But I will marry her with or without your permission. Nothing will stand in my way, not this time," I said furiously and then turned and walked out of the room.
