August's POV
I waited patiently in my room as Whitney's phone kept on ringing.
After the talk we had in the living room, I made up my mind to tell her what was happening.
"Did you miss me already?" She asked when she picked up.
"I don't know what to do," I whispered softly.
"What's wrong? Did something bad happen? Did Felix do something to you?" She asked loudly.
"No, it's not that," I answered.
"Then did Teresa act badly after she found out what we are?" She asked.
"No, it's not that either," I answered.
"Then what seems to be the problem?" She asked.
"So I went to visit Teresa and I felt so different, like something big was about to happen and guess what? It did," I answered sadly.
"Oh my goddess, did she cheat on you?" She asked in nearly a scream.
"No, I met my mate at her place," I answered as she screamed happily.
"That's amazing! You should thank the moon goddess for showing you kindness. Congratulations on finding her, you must be thrilled!I wish I could give you a hug right now!" she exclaimed.
"Whitney, please stop assuming things and listen," I said seriously as she kept quiet for a second.
"You sound angry and hurt, why?" she asked.
"I met my mate at my lover's apartment," I said again, this time with emphasis.
"I heard that, is she her friend?" she asked.
"If that was the case, then it would have been much better but no," I answered.
"Oh my, is it her ex-husband?" she asked as I growled furiously.
"What the heck is wrong with you? I am straight!" I yelled.
"Then what? You never said she had sisters or cousins, that's why I thought it was her ex or a friend. The other person you mentioned was her child, but that's impossible," she said as I sighed heavily.
"That's my mate," I answered as the line went quiet for a minute.
"August, did you just say Teresa's child is your mate?" she asked in a low tone.
"Yes, apparently I am mated to a seventeen-year-old kid," I answered.
"That's brutal," Ryan said, surprising me.
"Damn," Evan said, then chuckled.
"Am I on loudspeaker right now?" I asked seriously as my heart ached.
"I'm so sorry, okay, I was so shocked when you said you were mated to the kid that I had to put it on loudspeaker for others to hear it too. I thought I was hearing wrongly," she answered.
"Whitney, I called you because you were my last resort of reason and you are like a sister to me. How could you do this to me?" I asked seriously.
"Whitney, let me talk to him," Uncle said.
I wanted to just hit the phone on the floor and break it. Everything today was going so wrong, and I felt my heart hurting because of how everyone was reacting.
"August, you are not on loud anymore, so please be at ease," Uncle said softly as I took in a deep breath and realized it.
"Thank you," I answered and then moved to the bed and sat down.
"Age means nothing to us. I mean, look at me and Whitney. There is an age gap between us, yet that has never bothered us. We are so in love, and we respect each other a lot," he said.
"I know that, Uncle, I really do. But things are a little different for me. Not only is she human, but I am committed and in love with her mother," I answered as he huffed.
"That too shouldn't be a problem. Look, the kid your mate doesn't know you like that, isn't it? She has only met you today or a few times, right? So despite her feeling the bond and mate pull, it isn't that deep yet as that of mates who are very close to each other and see each other every day. Your rejection may hurt her, but she will move on quickly. It would have been so hard for her if she was very close to you or grew to yearn for you more over time," he said as I kept quiet.
I understood what he was saying clearly, but the thought of rejecting her was making my heart break and my wolf angry.
"So you can marry Teresa in peace because nothing has happened between you and her daughter," he said as I hesitated to tell him the truth.
"We kissed. My mate and I kissed once," I answered.
"Jeez, August," he whispered.
"I couldn't help myself," I answered honestly.
"Well, it's just a kiss. You can start by telling and showing Teresa what we are and then explaining to her what mates are and how hard it is to resist the bond and pull. After that, you will have to tell her about you and her daughter, and that's after you have rejected the kid and let her heal. That way, Teresa won't feel like she took you away from her child," he said as I threw myself back.
"I understand," I said in a low tone.
"Good, then your mind is set right?" He asked as I sighed heavily.
"Yes, I will reject the girl and marry Teresa," I answered seriously.
"Like hell you will!" My wolf growled furiously.
"Thank you very much," I whispered, ignoring him.
"No problem. I will talk to Whitney and the others about your decision, so don't think too much about it. Also, she reacted the way she did because she was very excited and then shocked by the news. She wants you to be happy, so whatever decision you have made or will make, she will still support you as much as the twins will. You are still our family no matter where you go," he said as I sat upright with a smile.
"Uncle, thank you so much for your kind words. I am very happy to have called," I answered.
"Now, do get some rest because you sound so tired," he said softly.
"Okay, then I'll talk to you soon," I answered and then disconnected the call and threw my phone on the bed.
"You will not hurt our mate," my wolf said in a warning tone.
"I know we have waited for her all this time, but we can't be with her. Not after deciding to stand with Teresa for the rest of our lives," I answered.
"Let's not see that girl, that way we won't be able to hurt her. Because if we meet, I may be forced to reject her," I said as he furiously growled but said nothing.
"I know how my decision sounds so selfish right now, but I believe it's the right thing to do. We know nothing about that kid. She's very young and she may later regret wanting us. Also, us being together would be some kind of ungrateful mess towards Teresa," I said sadly.
I wanted to trust what I believed in even if it was going to hurt me. It was the last time I was going to see that girl; I was going to make sure about that.
I waited patiently in my room as Whitney's phone kept on ringing.
