August's POV
I looked at my mate, who was soundly sleeping on my bed, then at my phone, which was in my hands.
"What am I doing?" I asked myself silently.
"The right thing," came my wolf's response.
"No, it isn't right," I whispered seriously.
When she was about to leave in tears, I felt engulfed in fear and I acted upon my instinct and grabbed her.
As I held her, she cried so much that I had to make her sit on my lap on the bed. After hours, she fell asleep, and I couldn't bring myself to wake her up, so I carefully laid her down and covered her up.
Now, thinking back to how I acted, I felt guilty. What was I going to tell Teresa when I called her?
"Hey, I accidentally bumped into your daughter, and I asked her to come in and have a cup of tea?"
No, that would look so stupid, and it was an obvious lie because I could have easily called her. Any normal person would have.
"I'm messed up," I said honestly and then looked at the door when I picked up Felix's scent.
I walked to the door and opened it before she could knock.
"What is it?" I asked seriously while I shoved my phone into my pocket.
"I knew this would happen," she said and then turned.
"Teresa is outside our house, think of a better lie to tell her before things get out of hand," she said and walked away as my heart began to beat rapidly. My throat felt dry, and sweat was beginning to form on my forehead.
As I walked, my feet became heavy. When I came out, Teresa quickly rushed into my arms with tears running down her cheeks.
I instantly embraced her and took a deep breath.
"Hey, what happened?" I asked softly.
She pulled back and gazed into my eyes.
"It's my daughter, my baby girl. She's missing. I called her dad, but he said she wasn't there yet. I even tried calling you, but you weren't picking up. I know I must be overreacting, but she has never done this before. I have a very bad feeling, August," she cried as I sadly grabbed her hands in mine.
"Did you report this to the police?" I asked seriously.
"How can I? When they tell everyone in my situation to wait for twenty-four hours? You know that they won't help me in any way, not until... Ah, god," she cut her sentence short, sobbing as I wrapped my arms around her again.
"Calm down, please. She is obviously at a cafe or in one of the shops. Did you argue, perhaps?" I asked.
"No, we did not. She was waiting for something and refused to go back. I thought it was her way of trying to stay, and so I scolded her a little as I have done a few times in the past. I was so shocked when she stood up and grabbed my car keys. I tried talking to her, but she couldn't listen to me," she answered.
I grabbed her shoulders and pushed her back carefully.
"Hey, maybe she has already returned home by now. First, let's go back and check, then we can decide our next move," I said as she smiled and then nodded.
"Let me inform Felix about what's going on, it will only take a minute, then we can leave," I said and then quickly went back into the house.
As I approached my room, I could hear movements from not one but two people. I quickly rushed there and opened the door.
Tanya was sitting at the edge of the bed looking terrified, while Felix stood next to her.
"I woke her up and filled her in on what was going on," she said as I glared at her.
She had no right to wake her up! I was going to keep everything under control even without her interference. At least that's what I believed.
"Don't give me that stupid look, you are welcome! By the way, if it wasn't for me asking Lee to make that damn car invisible, she would have seen it. So yeah, you are so fucking welcome," she said and then walked out.
She was right, she was so right. Here I was thinking about how I could convince Teresa to calm down without realizing that hiding the car was the first thing I should have thought of.
"Will you tell my mother about what I did to you?" Tanya asked in a low tone.
"And what exactly did you do to me?" I asked back.
"I forced a kiss on you. I also forced my way into your room," she said, then sniffed as tears filled her eyes.
She really was a kid. I didn't know whether to feel sad that she was my mate or pity.
"You didn't force a kiss on me because I kissed you back, and secondly, you didn't force your way into my room. Felix led you here," I answered as she smiled warmly at me.
"Anyway, that's not what I wanted to tell you. I came here to ask you to drive back home immediately after I and your mother leave. I will distract her when we go back to that side, so you should be quick. Felix obviously helped you cover your car with a cloth to hide it, so talk to her before stepping out," I said and then moved but stopped when she stood up and quickly rushed in front of me.
"When I get home, will you be clingy to my mother? You know, like holding her in front of me and giving her kisses?" she asked seriously.
"Tanya, how many times do I have to tell you that I'm going to marry your mother?" I asked back.
"I know, but... but then what exactly are we to each other?" she asked softly.
"Nothing, we are nothing, so stop bothering me and do as I have told you," I answered and then quickly walked out of the room before she could press me further on the matter.
I went out and instantly wrapped my arm around Teresa's shoulders.
"Come on, let's get going. Did I take too long?" I asked simply.
"Not really," she answered and then smiled at me.
"Don't worry, okay, we will find her no matter what. I will be with you through each and every step you take," I said nervously.
"I know, and I'm grateful for that. Thanks to you, I feel calmer now," she answered as I forced a smile on my face.
I was feeling like the worst being on earth because I wasn't trying to push my mate away completely, and at the same time, I didn't want to let go of Teresa.
I looked at my mate, who was soundly sleeping on my bed, then at my phone, which was in my hands.
