Larson's POV
"Let me get this straight: you made her cookies?" I asked Kyle in the living room seriously. We were sitting next to each other on a couch.
He looked at me furiously and then shifted his gaze to the side.
"Well, yes, more like special cookies," he answered.
"And instead of taking them to Yuki's room, you were so exhausted that you decided to sleep?" I asked.
"Well, yes," he answered simply.
"And when you woke up, the cookies were not where you had left them in the kitchen?" I asked with a raised brow.
"Exactly," he answered seriously.
"And now you want to kill whoever ate or took them?" I asked as he looked at me and then nodded.
"Seriously, Kyle, is that the reason you were making such a fuss in the morning?" I asked.
"I was very worried, thinking something big had happened," I said honestly.
"You don't understand how hard I worked to make them; that alone was something big. I was so tired that I couldn't even see my mate when I told her I would visit her room to say goodnight," he answered and then quickly got to his feet when we picked up a few nice, familiar scents.
Yuki and Tamara walked in and looked at us.
"Morning," Kyle greeted with a smile on his face, but Yuki ignored him and walked out of the living room.
"What the hell did I do this time? It's getting tiring," he said and then rushed after her.
"More like boring," I whispered to myself, then smiled at Tamara when she gave me a death glare.
I was expecting her to walk out of the room as well but was very surprised when she moved and sat opposite me.
"Morning," she greeted, then smiled back.
I quickly turned to look at the wall behind me, thinking there was someone standing there in an open portal because there was no way she was talking to me—not after how she reacted after our kiss.
It was clear as day how she wanted nothing to do with me. It was obviously the mate pull that was working on her, while on the other hand, I truly wanted to get to know her better.
"What, you don't say it back? Is that what you were taught at the training camp?" she asked as I raised my hand and pointed a finger at myself.
"Just to be certain, am I the one you are greeting right now?" I asked in a low tone.
"Oh no, I am greeting the invisible guy behind you. Did you know what his name is? He is called Wall," she answered seriously as I widened my eyes and then laughed softly.
So I was the one.
Just that thought made me so excited, and my wolf couldn't stop purring.
"Well, morning to you too, mate," I answered, making sure the mate part was emphasized.
"What's your day like, or should I say, what are your plans for the day?" she asked.
I slowly sat upright, feeling a little confused over her sudden change of heart.
"Tamara, what's going on?" I asked seriously.
"What do you mean?" She asked back simply.
"I don't know what you are trying to do but it won't work," I said seriously.
"What are you even talking about? I was asking all that because I thought it would be nice to have someone show me around the pack. It's been years since I have been here, so it wouldn't hurt to check out a few things," she answered.
"And amongst all the pack members you chose me, why?" I asked curiously.
I knew I was her mate but people didn't change overnight unless they were under a spell, magic or plotting.
"Because you.... you are ...," she trailed off trying to finish her sentence.
"Your mate?" I asked as she smiled and then nodded.
I was now sure that she really was planning something. She couldn't even say the word mate yet here she was trying her best to act friendly towards me.
"After I show you around, what are you going to do next?" I asked.
"Well, I was hoping you could take me out. It's been ages since I had a taste of liquor," she answered as I chuckled softly and then stood up.
"Forget it," I said seriously.
"What do you mean by that?" She asked and then stood up as well.
"It's so damn clear that you are either going to kill me on that side or have some thugs jump me. Like, who has a change of heart overnight? I get it; I screwed up badly, and I didn't want you in the past, but that was my young self and in the past. I am not the same anymore. I admit I still had feelings for Roxanne when I came back from the training camp, but right now, I want to get to know you better, if you'll let me," I said as her expression turned cold.
"It's good to know that you think of me as the scum of the earth. Do you seriously think I would kill you and risk being hated by the only family I have?" she asked, and I felt horrible about my words.
"I'm sorry; I just said whatever came into my head for a second without much thought," I answered.
"Don't worry, Larson; I'm sure Kyle would gladly show me around. I was dumb to ask you," she said and then moved to walk out when I ran in front of her, grabbing her shoulders.
"Anyone would do, just not him or Lui," I whispered heavily.
"And why is that? Is it because you think I'm way too easy to fuck?" she asked as I dropped my hands and took a deep breath to keep myself calm.
She really was pissing me off with her words.
"I don't know why you are twisting my words, but no, that's not the reason. I do trust you to be honest; the ones I don't trust are those around you," I answered honestly.
She pressed her hands on my chest as her eyes turned a glowing red.
"I am not and will never be your property. And just so you know, you should never trust me completely either, because I can do a lot more than smile at them," she said, and then moved to walk away when I grabbed her hand and pulled her back.
She hissed at me as a warning, but I ignored her and leaned in, grazing my teeth against the side of her neck and then kissing there as she stiffened.
If she wanted to take a walk with them, then fine! But I was going to mark my territory and leave a hickey on her skin as a fair warning to them and all the males of our pack who might look at her.
She was mine, and no one was going to claim her as theirs.
