Lui's POV
I quickly stood up from my bed when my door opened and Akira walked in.
She had a sad expression on her face. I knew we weren't talking as such here, but she never came into my room no matter what.
"Akira," I called softly.
She moved and embraced me without a word.
I quickly held her back and rubbed her back gently.
"What's wrong?" I asked softly.
"I want to go home," she whispered.
"Of course, we will, but tell me why you look sad," I answered.
She sighed softly and then kept quiet. When a knock came through, I raised a brow.
It was definitely Tamara; I could tell by her scent.
"Come on in," I answered.
When she walked in, Akira grabbed my shirt and buried her head in my chest.
"Akira, I know how upset you are with me right now, but it's not as you heard. I agree I said all those things to Larson, but not because I meant them. I wanted to make him angry and hurt as much as I did. I wanted him to feel as I did in the past," she said softly.
"Well, go tell that to Yuki, who is all alone and crying herself to death!" Akira screamed, startling me.
"I could if I knew where she was. She's not in the pack house; I checked," she answered as I frowned deeply.
"Excuse me, but what did you say, Akira?" I asked.
She pulled back and looked at me seriously.
"Yuki came crying to me in my room a few minutes ago," she said hesitantly.
"Akira, please," Tamara whispered.
"She said that her mate had not seen her in days, yet he went to Tamara's room, and when she talked to him, he yelled at her, calling her hurtful names," she said.
I carefully pushed her back, and I was about to move when she grabbed my hand.
"Let go of my hand! I'm going to murder him!" I growled furiously.
"No, Lui!" she screamed back, making me freeze in place.
"She asked me to go back with her because she wanted to apologize. She figured that she had been so unfair to him despite him showing kindness, That's why we did go back, and that's when we heard Tamara's confession," she said as I looked at Tamara coldly, who had her gaze fixed on the floor.
"What confession?" I asked in a low tone.
"Tamara said that she wished Kyle was her mate and that she envied Yuki for having him, right to his face," she answered as I pulled my hand away and walked to where Tamara was standing.
"Is it true?" I asked seriously.
"Did you not hear me when I said I didn't mean it?" she answered in a whisper.
I tensed when I picked up the scent of tears.
"I was so hurt in the past that I had to leave my home because I couldn't handle the pain I felt. Your family took me in, and you all became my family. Do you think I think of you lightly?" she asked, then looked up with wet cheeks.
"When I came here, Larson began saying things I could only dream of, and he was so nice to me that it scared me. A part of me wanted to accept him, but I just couldn't.I wanted him to feel what I felt, even if it was just a little. That's why I made up such lies to hurt him. I didn't know he could tell them to Kyle and avoid him for days. My mistake hurt Kyle, and when Yuki overheard us, she wouldn't even let me explain," she cried.
"Yuki is my best friend. How could I hurt her like that? If I wanted to have a lover, I would have gone for someone in your pack. But I didn't because my heart was still stuck in the past," she sobbed.
I moved and hugged her sadly.
She really was suffering all alone in the past, and we, who could have helped her a lot, knew nothing about it. Even now, she was hurting so much.
No one has ever seen her cry in our pack! Seeing her like this made me feel horrible.
"Lui," Akira called in a whisper.
I pulled back and looked at Tamara with a smile.
"Go put on something warm and meet us outside the park. We will go look for her, and you will explain to her what you explained to me. Don't worry, I know Yuki very well. She is just hurt and in shock. But after you explain everything, she will understand completely and laugh at her own foolishness," I said softly.
She nodded and then turned and left my room.
When I looked at Akira, she folded her arms and then turned to give me her back.
"I know what you are thinking right now, but it's not that. I understood her pain because I heard no lies in her words and saw the sadness in her eyes, not because she's someone I once liked, but because she is our family, and right now she needs someone to understand her and tell her it is going to be okay," I said softly.
When she didn't respond, I went on to speak.
"How are we supposed to work things out between us when you don't give me a chance? You keep thinking so little of me when I'm not like that. Right now, your friend really does need you, and she is crying too. Are you seriously going to let your anger get in the way?" I asked seriously.
"Just go," she answered in a low, cracked voice.
"Akira, when you told me about what had happened, I felt so angry at Kyle and then at Tamara. Even now, I am still a little upset with them for not going after Yuki, but I won't hold it against them because I'm sure they, too, are having a rough day," I said honestly.
"Please, just for today, I want my mate to hold my hand and be with me. I don't like what's going on, and I fear if we don't settle it soon, my friendship with Kyle may end, and so would his relationship with his Beta. Yuki would forever hate Tamara, and Tamara would go back to her parents," I said softly.
When she turned and faced me, I sighed in relief.
She moved closer and extended her hand to me.
"I am your mate, not just for today but forever. Just because I feel a little jealous or get upset, it doesn't mean I'll reject or abandon you," she answered.
I smiled and then pulled her into my embrace.
