Reid's POV
"Why are you in control?" Samantha asked immediately as I stepped foot in the living room.
"Because August would have messed up big time when meeting our mate," I answered simply.
After that talk with our mate, I decided to return and set things right between Teresa and us.
I didn't want her in any way, and I was going to make it clear to her.
"Oh, so you went after her?" she asked.
"Is that even a question, Felix? I have waited for a very long time to have a woman or she-wolf I could call my own proudly. August went through hell because he was so desperate to love and be loved; he even chose Teresa to be by our side. Not to put all the blame on him, because I too was at fault, but I accepted what wasn't ours. That's why there is no way I'm letting Tanya be with anyone who isn't us. I will do everything in my power to be with her," I answered as she smirked.
"Even if it means making August sleep forever?" she asked.
"Of course, I am rather selfish and cruel at times," I answered simply, then pulled the ringing cell phone from my pocket and looked at it.
"Excuse me," I said, then answered it.
"Teresa,"
"I am outside the house," she said.
"I'll be right there," I answered, then disconnected the call.
"This will be good," Samantha whispered.
I ignored her, walked out of the living room, and went to the door, opening it with a smile.
"Welcome," I said softly as I moved closer and stood in front of her.
She smiled and quickly wrapped her arms around my waist, resting her head against my chest.
"I missed you a lot. Why didn't you pick up my calls yesterday?" she asked softly, then pulled back with a frown when a few minutes went by without me hugging her back or responding.
"August," she called softly.
"I apologize," I answered seriously.
"Well, it's not like I am upset with you. It's just that I missed you a lot, and it would have been nice if you had picked up my calls. Wait... Why are you putting in contacts? Did Samantha ask you to do this for work?" she asked.
"Teresa," I called seriously.
"Don't you fucking dare!" August screamed, surprising me.
"Oh, so your feelings for her are strong enough to pull you out of your slumber. That's too sweet; sadly, you can't overpower my will to be with our mate," I said to him and then grabbed Teresa's hands.
"Reid!" he yelled furiously.
"Teresa, I want to invite you in and have a heart-to-heart conversation. But that would be a waste of time, and I might even give you hope when my goal is to shatter it," I said seriously.
"Stop, you fucking damn wolf!" he yelled.
"I don't understand," she said in a low tone.
"I have been trying so hard to tell you for quite some time, but there was a part of me that couldn't let me. Teresa, you are an amazing woman and fiancée to me.The only problem is that I no longer love or want to be with you. I could deceive you for as long as I can if I wanted to, but that doesn't seem fair, does it?" I asked seriously.
She widened her eyes, and her face looked pale.
"I will kill you, Reid! I will fucking kill you!" August screamed.
"And before you ask me if I am joking with you, I want you to know that I am not. I don't want to marry you or spend my future days regretting or feeling trapped," I said honestly.
She moved her hand to her mouth as tears filled her eyes.
"No, you didn't do anything wrong, and no, you didn't upset me," I answered before she could ask because I could see it in her eyes that was what she was about to ask.
"It's not that I'm afraid to commit or get married; it's because I no longer want, love, or need you," I said, then held my breath when she raised her hand and slapped me hard across the cheek.
"Reid, please don't do this to her," August pleaded.
"You can hit me as many times as you want if it makes you feel better. But I refuse to spend my whole life with a woman I don't love," I said as she raised her hand with tears running down her face.
"Reid, stop this madness, please!" August screamed.
"You are the worst!" she screamed and then dropped her hand.
"I wish you the very best with your life," she said in a cracked voice and then turned to walk away.
"Teresa," I called softly.
She stopped moving and sniffed.
"If there is anything that is mine at your apartment, please burn it. I won't be needing it ever," I said.
She ran to her car crying.
"Reid, I swear to the moon goddess I'll drink an overdose of wolfsbane and kill you! Better still, I'll drink red Otis and kill us both if you won't let me be with Teresa," he threatened.
"What about our fucking mate, you moron? What happens to her when we choose Teresa? Will you truly be happy knowing that you let her go? Will seeing her with another man make you happy? Will it please you when you watch her mouth pressed against another? Imagine her being under some pathetic guy, fucking her raw and bearing his children," I said seriously.
When he couldn't respond, I smirked.
"Just imagine her holding him close and looking at him as if he were the only one she could ever see. Her walking down the aisle with him and giving her very being to...,"
"Stop, fucking stop," he screamed furiously, cutting me off.
"We can't let that happen, can we? So let me decide what's best for us for once," I said softly.
"But Teresa...," he whispered.
"She will soon move on and find another lover. My main concern is her accepting us to be with her daughter. But then again, I always have a way of making someone submit when I'm in desperate need of something," I answered and then turned and walked back into the house.
"You are so ice cold," Samantha said once I walked past the living room.
"One of us has to be if the other is soft and warm," I answered simply.
I was going to make sure August was over Teresa before telling Tanya what we were.
