Lui's POV
"It's truly an amazing pack you will be leading," Larson said with a smile.
"Thank you," I answered simply and then smiled back.
"To be honest, you and Kyle will be amazing Alphas. Not only because of your friendship, but because of how hardworking and kind you are to others. I witnessed all that at the camp, and to be honest... I was jealous of your friendship and how you naturally bonded. You know Alphas usually don't play nice towards other Alphas unless they are either family members or have an alliance. So when I saw how you two were becoming the best of friends, I got jealous and a little scared of being left out," he said, surprising me.
I knew how he felt because of how he acted mostly at the camp, but there was never a day I thought he would openly admit it.
"How do you feel about our friendship right now? Do you realize that we will make up when we talk things through?" I asked.
He stopped walking, as I also did.
"I am still a little scared of being abandoned, left out, and ignored. But you bring out the best in Kyle as a friend, and him being your best friend makes him so happy. That's why I decided to support your friendship despite my fears," he answered.
I sighed softly and then smiled widely.
"Beta," I called seriously.
He instantly tensed up and faced me.
"There is no Alpha that I know of who can run a pack without his right hand. You are very important and more valuable to Kyle than you give yourself credit for. He needs you more than he does me, and he adores you because you are his family and also his other best friend," I said as he widened his eyes in shock.
"I admit I, too, didn't like you much and that I was displeased whenever you gave me the cold shoulder, but there was never a day I thought of you as inferior or useless. Us having a talk right now is an amazing step to building a good friendship, don't you think?" I asked and then extended my hand towards him.
He looked at it seriously and then at me.
"Can I truly be your friend?" he asked, making me chuckle softly.
"Of course, you can," I answered.
He shook my hand with a smile and then dropped it.
"I guess the only thing left for me to do is to fix my relationship with my mate," he said in a low tone.
"Well, that won't be a problem," I answered simply.
"What?" he asked with a frown.
"Can you sing?" I asked.
"Um... did Kyle tell you that I can?" he asked.
"Seriously, you can!" I exclaimed in shock.
"I can sing very well," he answered with an amused expression.
"Oh wow, the goddess sure does show favor to a lot of us," I said, then cleared my throat.
"Tamara did love to hear pack members sing, even if they were singing off-key. She does enjoy music quite a lot, so whenever my mother would sing or hum a song, she was right by her side smiling so much and moving her head back and forth. If you can sing well, then do sing something nice for her; I'm sure she would be so happy. It's just a little sad that you can't play an instrument," I said.
He shifted his gaze to the ground and then looked up.
"I do play the violin and sometimes the guitar," he answered.
"What? Seriously? What can you not do? That's amazing!" I said at the top of my voice.
"It's just something I did in secret whenever I felt bored or wanted to cheer myself up. I love music a lot, although I don't speak much about it," he answered.
"Wonderful! Then find a nice place where you can sing for her. She also loves soury biscuits and sweets," I said seriously.
"Wouldn't she prefer blood?" he asked, making me laugh.
"Just because she is a half-vampire doesn't mean she can't enjoy something else. Have you forgotten that her father is a fairy?" I asked seriously.
"Oh shit, I did forget for a second," he responded.
"She does enjoy blood, but only once in a while. So get her something soury to snack on. If you can manage to get her flowers, then that's a plus," I said.
"Thank you very much, Lui. I didn't think about what to get for her; all I could think of was how to make her forgive me," he answered.
"What are friends for? I just hope wholeheartedly that she takes you back," I said honestly.
"Me too," he answered softly.
"If she does, I swear upon my life that I will treat her right," he said seriously.
I could hear it in his voice that he was speaking the truth and meant every word.
"I'm glad that...,"
"There you are," Kyle said loudly before I could finish my sentence.
I looked at him as he approached us and then at Larson.
"Can you give us a few minutes to talk?" I asked.
"Of course," he answered and then walked past Kyle, surprising him.
"Is Larson running away from me?" he asked once he was in front of me.
"No, I asked him to give us some space to talk," I answered.
"Oh," he said in a low tone.
"First of all, screw you for doing that to my little sister, and secondly...."
I raised my hand and punched his face hard. He took a step back but balanced his stance.
"Damn it," he whispered and then rubbed his cheek gently.
"Do you feel better now?" he asked after dropping his hand.
"Yes," I answered simply, then fell silent.
A few seconds passed, and we burst into laughter.
"Your punch sucks," he said loudly.
"You made me do it," I replied, lightly hitting his shoulder.
"I'm glad you came," I said sincerely.
"Of course," he answered, glancing behind him. "Yuki and I are going on a date. Do you have something I can borrow... you know, like a suit?"
"Yep, I have something that'll look perfect on you," I answered.
"Great, shall we go check it out?" he asked.
"Of course," I said as we started walking back together.
"Did you meet my mother?" I asked casually.
"Yes, and she was so happy to see me. I took the chance to come here when she left the dining room with Yuki," he said.
"I see," I whispered with a smile.
She was definitely helping Yuki pick out something nice for the date. Knowing Yuki, she was probably panicking too.
