Whitney's POV
"I accept defeat!" Leo screamed loudly.
He was breathing heavily on the ground with his arms raised in surrender.
I dropped my wooden sword and knelt beside him with a smile.
"You know we can't always rely on shifting. Hand-to-hand combat and using weapons should be something we get used to," I said.
"I know," he answered simply.
"Things have been so peaceful; do you think... hey!" I screamed when he grabbed my arm, pulling me to him.
I laughed loudly once I fell onto him.
"All that matters is that we are in a peaceful pack and that we are happy," he said softly.
"You are right, but it never hurts to train regularly," I answered, then moved my hands to his cheeks.
"I train because I really enjoy it. I was raised that way. I know the twins are here and that I should relax. I guess I will do just that with time," I said softly.
"Hey, I will always be there beside you whenever you want to train because I, too, enjoy doing it with you," he said as I chuckled softly.
"Why are you making it sound naughty?" I asked in a playful tone.
"What? I seriously love doing it with you," he answered.
I moved and kissed his lips lightly.
"You are in luck because I love doing it with you too," I said in a seductive tone as his arms went around my waist.
"Say that again," he whispered.
"I said..." I cut my sentence short and then pulled away from his arms, sitting upright.
"We have company," I said calmly when I picked up Lexi's scent.
"Her timing sucks," he whined as he too sat upright.
"I know, but be nice; that's our little girl you are talking about," I said.
"Not little at all," he whispered while she approached us.
"Even if she is a mother, to me she is still our little girl," I answered.
"I'm sorry to disturb your training, Mom and Dad; it's just that you have a missed call," she said once she was in front of us with a phone in her extended hand.
"It's okay, Lexi. We were already done with training," I answered, then got to my feet and grabbed the phone from her, unlocking it and looking at the missed call.
"It's August," I said, a little surprised.
"Wow, it's rare for him to call first," Leo said as he got to his feet.
"I know, right? I was also surprised when I saw that it was him," she said.
I called back and waited for him to pick up.
"Whitney," came his response.
"Talk to me," I said calmly.
"I ended things with Teresa," he answered as I frowned.
"I am not going to let anyone get in the way of being with my mate. She was in my way; that's why I had to cut her loose," he said as I looked at Leo.
"Reid," I called.
I wasn't certain it was him when he answered, but now I was sure after hearing his words. Reid rarely took over, but whenever he did, he made sure to take full control of everything.
There were times when August was hesitant about decisions or didn't know what to do. When Reid took over, he decided for him and did what he couldn't do. Reid, to me, was stronger, and he knew what he wanted and how he wanted it.
"Yes, it's me, Whitney," he answered calmly.
"Did you force poor August into sleeping?" I asked.
"No... Yes, I did, but he got up once my guard was lowered," he answered.
"Is he okay with your decision?" I asked seriously.
"He wasn't at first, but after our little talk, he is very much okay with my decision," he answered.
"Alright, so why then are you calling me?" I asked.
"To let you know that there will be no wedding and that Teresa will never come to that pack. But as for my mate, she and I will visit soon, so I want you to be prepared. If I don't tell you now, I know you will react in a way that would make her feel very bad and awkward when I come with her on that side," he answered.
He did have a point, but it sounded offensive.
"Is that your only reason for calling?" I asked.
"No, I also wanted you to know that August will be quitting work. I can't let our mate be far away from us. She's still a university student, and I can't ask her to quit; that would be unfair. That's why I decided we should go and live with her," he answered.
I wanted to scream at how insane everything he was telling me was, but I knew better. He was Reid! Reid always got what he wanted once his mind was set on it.
"Does Teresa know that you and her daughter are moving in together?" I asked.
"No, not yet. But that won't be a problem; I will have her accept us one way or another, even if it takes years," he answered.
"I see, it's that serious, huh?" I whispered.
"Yes," he answered.
"I'm very happy you weren't that serious with Lexi," I said honestly.
Knowing the twins, they would have brutally injured or killed him.
"I liked her a lot, but the one in love was August, same with Sharon. He fell hard while I was just fond of her. It's quite annoying how he has a habit of falling for the wrong women, but what could I have done? I too wanted to feel what it was like to be with someone who only looked at us and longed for us. That's why I was okay with it," he answered.
"I'm glad you finally have your own mate. I just hope she will love and understand you wholeheartedly," I said.
"She already does," he answered proudly.
"That's nice. So, when am I expecting you?" I asked.
"Soon, so please do share the news with Ian and his family. I could inform him, but you know how he is; he will find a way to upset me," he said.
"Alright, I will," I answered.
"Thank you. Greet everyone for me on that side, and do take care," he said.
"You too," I answered, and then disconnected the call.
"It seems there won't be a wedding," I said, feeling a little disappointed.
I was looking forward to meeting Teresa, not her daughter.
"Did he decide to finally be with his mate?" Leo asked.
"It seems so, and this time Reid is the one making the call," I answered.
"Oh, it's that serious," Lexi whispered.
"Yes, that's why we don't need to involve ourselves in his business in any way, because Reid usually has a way of making people fall under his will," I answered.
We were not going to interfere in his love relationship, no matter what.
