Yuki's POV
I was woken up by loud giggling from a child. I blinked a few times to clear my vision, then yawned as I sat upright, stretching myself.
"Oh, you are awake," Ordain said happily and then looked at June, who was looking at me in fear.
"It's alright, June; auntie won't hurt you," she said softly, and then tickled her, making her laugh and giggle loudly.
I looked at the blanket that was on my lap and then the couch I was on. To say I was surprised to have slept on a couch was an understatement; I was shocked because I had never done that before.
"I slept here, right?" I asked softly.
"Of course! While we were telling you about our past story, you fell asleep resting your head on the Alpha's lap," she answered.
"Excuse me!" I exclaimed while standing up.
"You did, and you looked so cute. Oh my God, you should have seen how he was gently brushing your hair back and looking at you; it's as if we didn't even exist at all," she said in an excited tone.
"Wait, don't tell me... did he cover me up too?" I asked in a low tone.
"Of course he did! Since we only have one bedroom and a bed, Philippe wanted you to take it, but the Alpha refused and reasoned with him. He pointed out how uncomfortable June would be, and he was right; my little one wouldn't have slept at all. Because we never have visitors over, we never bought spare sheets, blankets, or pillows. We had to give you the blanket while we took the sheets. To be honest, I thought you would both sleep on the mat, but the Alpha was concerned about how you would wake up because of how hard the floor was despite having the fluffy mat," she said and then smiled warmly.
"He let you take the couch and covered you well while he slept on the mat close to the fire for warmth. I know how most of your kind are possessive and caring, but this is the second time that I have seen a very protective mate besides my own," she said as I felt my cheeks heat up. I quickly moved my hands there and shifted my gaze to the side.
"Well, my Kyle is an absolute gentleman," I whispered as my wolf purred in approval.
"He sure is," she answered when I dropped my hands and looked at her.
"Um...if you don't mind my asking, where is he?" I asked seriously.
"Oh, he's in the plant field with Philippe plucking fruits," she answered.
"You have a plant field?" I asked in an impressed tone.
"Of course we do. We also have some great plantations that are breathtaking," she answered.
"Can I see them?" I asked without a second thought.
"Sure," she answered and then got up from the mat with June.
"Come on, you will like it," she said and then walked out as I quickly followed.
At first, all I could see was a lot of tall grass, but as we went further, orange and apple trees began to show. The more we moved, the more I began to see other tree fruits as well.
When I saw Kyle standing next to Philippe with a basket chatting, I quickly rushed to him.
He turned and faced me before I could even touch him.
"Hey, how did you sleep?" he asked with a smile.
"I slept great," I answered and then smiled back.
"Morning," Philippe greeted.
"Morning, Philippe," I greeted back as I looked at him.
"Alpha Kyle and I were thinking of a way to get the ripe grapes that are above us; they are June's favorite," he said as he pointed at them. They were far away, and one needed a ladder to get them.
"I told you, Philippe, Kyle is just fine," Kyle said seriously.
"Right, I'm sorry I forgot Alp... I mean Kyle," he answered and then chuckled softly.
"Don't you have a ladder?" I asked.
"Actually, we do; that's why I am surprised by what...,"
"Ordain! The ladder broke, remember?" Philippe asked seriously.
She frowned and then looked him in the eyes.
After a few seconds, she smiled and nodded.
"Yes, I remember; it broke recently. That's why whenever we want to get some grapes, Philippe gets me on his shoulders," she answered.
"What?" I asked loudly.
"Yes, and today we would really love to eat some grapes. If it's not too much to ask, dear, can you help us?" she asked.
"Um... okay," I answered after hesitating.
"Great! Philippe and I will collect some apples and strawberries, so take your time," she said and then grabbed Philippe's hand and walked away.
"She really is a little weird," I whispered and then turned to fully face Kyle when he went down to his knees, surprising me.
"What are you doing?" I asked quickly.
"Come on, we need to get the grapes," he answered as I shook my head.
"No, I can't do that," I replied nervously.
"Come on, June is waiting for us with her big, beautiful, teary eyes. If we don't do it, she will cry. Philippe said it's her favorite," he said as I looked at myself, feeling embarrassed.
I had just woken up and followed Ordain like a crazy person. I hadn't cleaned my teeth, face, or even taken a bath. Obviously, I smelled bad.
"Come on, if you won't get on, I'll call Ordain and have her on my shoulder," he said, and that was enough to make me get on without question.
"Hold tight," he said as he stood up. I quickly grabbed his hair, making sure my grip wasn't too tight.
"There you go," he said when his balance was stable.
"Can you reach them?" he asked loudly.
I took a deep breath and realized it. I wasn't a fan of heights, but I wasn't going to let another woman touch Kyle in any way.
"Give me a second," I replied and then raised my hand, grabbing a bunch.
"I got them!" I screamed after plucking them.
I was about to raise my hand and do a victory move when I lost my balance.
I let out a scream and closed my eyes as I fell.
When I hit the ground and felt less pain than I expected, I opened my eyes. Kyle was on top of me, and his arms were around me. He had a concerned expression on his face, and he was breathing heavily.
"Are you hurt?" he asked in concern, then got startled when I began laughing.
"What?" he asked at the top of his voice.
"You sure are my prince in shining armor," I said between laughs.
He smiled and then got off me and helped me sit upright.
"You sure are something," he muttered.
"I'm sorry I wasn't careful enough; next time, I'll act calmer," I apologized, lightly hitting my head.
What next time was I even talking about when this was going to be the last time we were going to be here?
"Are the grapes okay?" he asked.
I looked at them, then plucked one and put it in my mouth.
"Yes, sweet and okay," I replied, making him laugh.
"I wasn't telling you to taste them," he said simply as I got another and moved it to his lips.
"Have a taste as well," I said in a low tone.
He looked at it, then smiled and opened his mouth.
I fed him with a smile, watching his lips as he chewed.
"It's as you said: sweet and okay," he replied.
"See, I told you so," I whispered and then rested my head against his shoulder.
"Let's rest for a while," I said softly.
"Yeah," he answered huskily and sighed softly.
As I relaxed to enjoy the view and surroundings, all I could hear were the birds chirping, a calm breeze blowing, and our own heartbeats, which were beating at a rather rapid speed.
