Damon's POV
I looked at Kyle in the living room and then at Yuki, who quickly lowered her gaze to the ground.
I thought I would feel calmer while driving, but no, I didn't. I was still very upset over everything, even after the drive.
I swallowed hard and then stopped moving back and forth.
"Explain," I demanded.
"Dad, you see we...,"
She stopped talking when Kyle held her hand.
I felt like sitting between them or grabbing her hand and pulling her away from him, but I knew Sherry would scold me for that.
"I sincerely apologize for our behavior, Alpha Damon," he said as I held in a growl.
"Keep your damn apology and explain to me in detail what happened," I answered seriously.
"We started off alright that day, but then the car broke down out of nowhere. If I had checked and made sure everything was alright, we wouldn't have ended up in such a situation," he said and then continued.
"Our phone reception was terrible, so we couldn't even call. Going back in our wolf form would have been easy, but then it started showering. I was very concerned about my mate catching a cold; after all, we aren't immortal," he said as I raised a brow.
Was he making funny jokes in such a situation? Did he think I was joking along with him?
"When I saw a cottage, we decided to seek shelter, and that's exactly what we did. The couple there, Philippe and Ordain, didn't want to let us in, but I forced my way into their home and demanded that they serve us," he said as I glared at him.
He really was Ian's son! And to think I saw good in him because he was close to Lui.
"No, he is lying," Yuki said loudly.
"Yuki," he called softly.
"I know what you are trying to do, but it's not right. My father may be angry right now, but he can never hurt a pack member without a reason. If you really want to protect Philippe and Ordain, do it, but don't make yourself look like a jerk, please," she said softly.
"Okay," he answered and then smiled at her warmly.
"I didn't force my way into the cottage; they welcomed us and offered us a place to rest our heads. Nothing much happened besides storytelling throughout most of the night. I slept late, and when I woke up the next day, Yuki and I went to get some fruits. After that, we helped out with preparing food," he said and then kept quiet, his expression turning sad.
"I really enjoyed my time there with my mate, and I wished from the bottom of my heart that we could stay longer. That's why I wouldn't even bother to check the car or ask Philippe for help," he said, then looked at me.
"The place had its own magical touch. I got to see a rare funny side of Kyle, and he got to know more things about me. I know we messed up big time and that you were very worried about us. But we seriously needed our own time, and that place provided us with the perfect paradise," Yuki said softly.
"I understand," Sherry answered softly.
I turned and looked at her coldly.
Yuki was somehow similar to Sherry, trying to take all the blame at one point and doing everything in her power to protect him. She really was like her mother.
There was a time when we went away and spent the night away from the pack without informing Alec. He was furious with us because he was very worried. Sherry tried to shift all the blame to herself, and she even tried her best to protect me from his nagging.
"I am not saying they were right. I am only saying I understand," she said, and then stood up from the couch and approached me.
When she stood in front of me and pressed her hands on my chest, I instantly felt calmer.
"Have you forgotten about what we did back then? They acted just like us," she said softly through our mind-link.
"We are and we were adults," I answered softly.
"So are they; they are no longer teenagers," she said.
I sighed softly, feeling defeated.
There was no winning when it came to her.
"Kyle," I called softly and then looked at him.
"Yes, sir," he answered seriously.
"I know that you care a lot for my daughter. I can see it in your eyes and hear it in your voice. But please acknowledge that you have not yet become the acting Alpha to be making her spend her nights out," I said, and then looked at Yuki, who was now gazing at me.
"I know the feeling of wanting to be alone with your mate and to experience new things in your relationship because that's how your mother and I feel at times. But whenever you want to do something, always keep in mind that others worry about you," I said seriously.
"Even when you go to stand by your Alpha's side, there will be others who genuinely worry about you when something happens. So I always want you to think of them and make sure to find a way to communicate with them, okay?" I said softly.
"I understand, Dad. I am very sorry," she answered in a whisper.
"You must be tired; go to your room and take a rest. As for you, Kyle, you should talk to Larson because he was very worried too. He has been awake since last night," I said.
"I will, thank you very much, Sir," he answered and then stood up with Yuki.
"Alpha, Luna," he called as Sherry turned to look at him.
"Such a thing will never happen again. When I want to take my mate out or spend the night out in the future, I will make sure my Beta does know about our whereabouts," he said.
"Good," I answered with a smile and then watched them walk out of the living room.
"I didn't mean to be hard on them; it's just that I was very concerned," I said softly.
"I know, Damon; you are an amazing mate and father, and Yuki knows that," she answered.
I moved and wrapped my arms around her waist, resting my head against her shoulder.
"I just hope Lui doesn't say harsh words to those two pack members," she whispered.
"He won't. I'm sure he wanted to hear the story from them rather than from his friend or sister because he is still upset. He was the one who panicked more than anyone," I answered.
"I bet he will talk to Kyle as soon as he walks into the pack house," she said.
"Yep, you are right," I answered and then kissed her neck gently.
Now that they were back, I felt much more at ease.
