Reid's POV
I stepped out of my car and smiled when I picked up Tanya's scent from a café. My smile instantly vanished when I detected the scent of her so-called male friends. I was getting very upset just knowing that they were with her or close to her.
When I called her earlier and asked what she was doing, she told me that she was at the café doing nothing.
I didn't want to tell her that I was going to meet her because it was supposed to be a surprise.
I pulled my cell phone from my pocket and dialed her number.
"Hey," she answered cheerfully.
"Guess where I am?" I asked.
"Work," she replied.
"Nope," I whispered.
"Are you home in your room resting?" she asked.
"Nice try, but no," I answered.
"Just tell me, please. I'm curious to know where you are," she said, making me chuckle.
"I am outside a strip club waiting for the door bouncers to let me in," I lied.
I wanted to tease her a little bit before telling her the truth.
When a few minutes went by without a response, I looked at my phone to make sure the call wasn't disconnected.
I smiled when I saw her come out of the café with a furious expression on her face, then moved the phone to my ear.
"Are you there with friends?" she asked seriously.
"Not really; I am meeting my female friend who invited me. Notice I said her gender just in case you ask me about it," I answered.
"Oh, really? That's great! Do have a nice and cozy time together because I am hanging out with Takey and Drake too, and we are having a lovely time," she said as I glared at her.
"Fine, have a good time together as well, and I'll talk to you later," I said and then disconnected the call.
When she screamed loudly and threw a few punches in the air, I laughed softly.
On the phone, she acted unbothered and okay. If I hadn't witnessed the call, I couldn't have guessed that she would be so furious.
My laughter ended when the two assholes came out of the cafe and went to her side.
"Are you okay?" the orange head asked seriously.
"I'm fine, okay? So back off!" she yelled furiously.
"That's my girl," I whispered proudly.
"Jeez, Tanya, we were just concerned about you when we heard you scream. If I had known I was going to be a bother, I wouldn't have come out," he said loudly.
"I really need to be alone right now because I am so pissed off, and if you guys do something shitty, I will curse the fuck out of you," she warned as I smirked.
I was very pleased to know that she wasn't the type of girl who ran into men's arms for comfort whenever she was upset or sad. Seeing how she was the type to be alone to think through things made me very happy.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" the orange head asked as he raised his hand to touch her but stopped when his friend grabbed it and shook his head.
"What's wrong with you too, Takey? You know that she hasn't been the same since she went to her mother's place. Not only does she avoid our calls, but we rarely see each other!" he yelled furiously and then looked at her.
"And now when we do meet, she's either on the phone or talking about that guy," he said as Tanya pointed a finger at him.
"Show some respect towards my boyfriend, Drake. You saying senseless and offensive things to me is okay, but I won't let you say shit about my man," she warned seriously as I grinned.
"How long are you going to stand there and let that little boy talk to our mate like that?" August asked loudly.
He disliked what he was witnessing, and it was slowly getting to him, as I had thought it would. That's why I was reluctant to do anything.
"Your man who has left you all alone? I haven't seen him anywhere since then, Tanya. What do you think he is doing right now? Long-distance relationships fail for many reasons, and one of those reasons is cheating. Do you think a man can stay far away from you and remain faithful?"he asked, then winced in pain and stumbled when she furiously punched him in the face.
"He is not like you, stupid, and he will never be. My man can never cheat on me because when he talks and looks at me, I hear and see the truth," she answered.
She was about to move when her eyes met mine.
Instantly, a surprised expression filled her face.
I waved and then approached her.
She looked at her two friends, then back at me, and smiled.
I knew her smile was fake, but I didn't want to point it out.
When I reached her, I kissed her lips lightly and then pulled back.
"Hi, Jake and Fray," I greeted simply.
"It's Takey and Drake, you piece of shit," Drake yelled furiously and then turned and walked away.
"Why are you still around, Jake? Fray already left if you didn't notice," I said seriously.
He rolled his eyes and then turned and walked away as well.
When I looked at Tanya, I noticed how she was laughing softly.
"Their names are awfully long, don't you think?" I asked when she stopped laughing.
"No, they are short names," she answered simply.
"I don't like it whenever they are with you," I said softly and then moved my hand to brush her hair gently.
"Are you jealous right now?" she asked.
"Yes, I am," I answered as her cheeks heated up.
"I can't believe you lied to me about being at the club," she said in a low tone.
"That's because I enjoy teasing you at times," I answered.
"Also, I really enjoyed seeing you punch the air and that guy's face," I said as she moved her hand to her mouth with widened eyes.
"My gosh, so you saw everything?" she asked after dropping her hand.
"Yes, I did," I answered as she covered her face with both of her hands.
"I'm so embarrassed," she said in a muffled voice.
"Won't you ask me what I'm doing here?" I asked while I moved her hands from her face.
"I was wondering about that, to be honest," she answered.
"I am here because, as of today, I will be staying here," he said, then got startled when she screamed loudly and jumped on me, making me laugh loudly while I wrapped my arms around her and spun her around.
