Kyle's POV
"You sound grumpy," Lui said to me on the phone.
"Maybe it's because your sister hasn't picked up any of my calls. I miss her a lot, and I think you understand how I feel. Or maybe it's because Larson can't stop rubbing it in my face how happy he is," I answered seriously.
Yesterday, when he went back with Tamara, I did want them to have a good time together.
But when they came back laughing and walking hand in hand, I envied them. I wished Yuki could be here with me. I felt so lonely, and so did Lionel.
"I told you how she was busy helping Mom out with something. When she is free, I will tell her to call you," he answered.
"Well, we can't all feel the same way, can we?" I muttered.
"Dude, she does love you a lot; she is just very busy. Also, is that how a soon-to-be Alpha acts and reacts? Have more dignity and faith in everything and everyone," he said loudly.
"Says the guy who can't take his mate to that magical place we were," I answered in a mocking tone.
"How did you know that I didn't?" he asked.
"Because you would have been bragging about the place right now if you had," I answered simply.
"I will go with time," he said calmly.
"Well, it's not like I'm forcing you to do it. After all, you aren't the only one whose plans have changed," I pointed out.
"For instance, my father was planning on going to rest in human territory far away from the pack. He was even planning on marrying my mother as humans do," I said.
"That was an amazing idea and plan," he answered as I chuckled.
"Yeah, right, it wasn't. Them getting married is, but not them leaving this pack. That's why I felt so relieved when he said he had a cottage he usually goes to with Mom," I said, then frowned when I heard noise coming from outside the pack.
"Kyle, are you there?" he asked.
"Yes, I just heard noise from outside," I answered.
"Do you want to go and check it out?" he asked.
"No, it’s probably one of my family members—or a few of them. After all, they’re all coming today," I replied.
"Kyle, get over here right now," my father’s voice commanded through the pack's mind-link, sounding serious.
"I’m talking to Lui right now; can’t it wait?" I asked respectfully.
"Right now," he ordered.
"I’ll call you back, Lui," I said, ending the call and placing the phone beside me before he could respond.
"All warriors, step back. The Alpha and I will handle this," Uncle Neo announced through the mind-link.
Whatever was going on, it seemed serious. I just hoped I wasn’t in trouble.
I got up lazily from my bed and walked out of my room, following their scents toward the outside of the pack house.
The moment I picked Yuki’s scent, I ran heading down the road that led to the pack’s border.
When I reached two cars parked facing each other, I slowed my pace.
Yuki stood close to a car I had seen back at her pack, her gaze lowered to the ground, while my father and Uncle Neo stood next to his car, facing her.
"Yuki," I whispered softly.
When she looked up and smiled, I couldn't help but smile back.
Dad looked at me with a raised brow and an expression that clearly asked what she was doing in our pack without notice or a phone call.
I shrugged and quickly went to her side, embracing her with a wide smile.
"Hey," I whispered softly, taking in her scent as tingles spread throughout my body.
"I'm sorry for coming without notice. I just wanted to surprise you. I also missed you a lot," she said in a low tone.
When I pulled back, I moved my hands to her cheeks.
"It's okay; I'm sure my Dad and Uncle are thrilled to have you visit us," I answered loudly, with emphasis.
She looked at them, then at me, and shook her head slowly.
I dropped my hands and turned to face them.
"Yuki will soon be my Luna; don't you think she deserves a warm welcome?" I asked through our pack's mind-link.
"She does, but she came here unannounced. She stressed us out because we thought she was an intruder," Uncle Neo answered and then smiled.
"Yuki, welcome to the pack," he said softly and then took a step forward, extending his hand to her.
She hesitated but moved and shook it.
"Ian," Uncle Neo called softly after he had dropped his hand.
"Dad, please be nice," I said seriously through our pack's mind-link.
"Of course I will; after all, she is your Luna, and with time, she will be the mother of my grandpups. I am thrilled to welcome her," he said and then smiled at her.
"Yuki, you must be tired. How about you let Kyle drive the car? I'll let Amelia know of your visit so she can prepare a room for you," he said softly.
If I didn’t know him better, I might’ve sworn he was the nicest Alpha I knew. But luckily, I knew him too well. He wasn’t thrilled about her sudden visit, though he seemed to understand why she’d come.
"Thank you, sir," she replied politely.
"Nonsense, call me Dad," he said, making me raise an eyebrow. What was he up to?
"Thank you, Dad," she replied.
"Good. Now, Kyle, I’ll go inform the others about Yuki’s visit. Also, let her know we’ll have company soon," he said before getting back into his car.
Uncle Neo gave me a serious look, nodded, and got in as well. Once they’d driven off, I turned quickly to face Yuki with a smile.
"I’m sorry," she whispered.
Was she kidding? I was over the moon to see her.
I wrapped my arms around her waist, lifting her as she laughed softly.
"I missed you so much," I said seriously.
She touched my cheeks, her gaze locking onto mine.
"What’s wrong?" I asked, sensing something.
She leaned in, gently kissing my forehead.
"I left my pack without telling my father," she admitted, pulling back.
"What?" I asked quietly as I carefully set her down.
"My mother and Lui know, but I didn’t tell my father. I was afraid he wouldn’t let me come," she explained.
It was a relief that her mother and Lui knew about it, but she still needed to inform her father because he was the acting Alpha and her guardian.
"I didn't want to stay put no matter what. If you are really going to step up as acting Alpha today or any day, I want to be right there cheering you on," she said, making me happy.
"Don't worry, I'll ask Mom to talk to your Dad," I answered seriously.
I knew how his father didn't like mine very much, so having my mother talk to him was a good idea.
She smiled and then wrapped her arms around my waist, resting her head against my chest.
"Thank you," she whispered.
I wrapped my arms around her and closed my eyes, enjoying her warmth and scent.
“No, thank you for coming to me,” I whispered back.
