Felix's POV
"Remind me again, why didn't we use the portal?" I asked Chase, who was driving the car.
"I told you already, Sammy. Lee and Jeannie will be running a little late," he answered and then gave me a warm smile.
"They just had to go and visit them; how annoying," I muttered.
"Family is never annoying," he said in a low tone, then focused on the road.
He was right; family was everything, but I was still annoyed that Lee chose to go and visit his family with Jeannie right after Ian had told us about his plans for Kyle and Larson's succession.
“Screw him,” I whispered softly.
"Hey, sweetheart, we have reached," he informed me simply.
I looked at the pack house that was visible from afar after we had crossed the border, then sighed.
I was really looking forward to seeing my baby girl more than anyone. Besides that, I missed Ian and Amelia a lot, but I wasn't going to openly admit it until they said it first.
"Remember what we talked about? No more showing disgust towards Larson. When I called Tamara yesterday, she sounded very happy, so let's be nice," he said as I glared at him.
It was easier said than done.
I hated Larson, and it was no secret at all.
"There they are," he said as Ian, Neo, Amelia, and Toni came into view.
"How the hell is that bastard not aging at all?" I asked loudly, then laughed softly.
"Is that how you talk about your best friend?" he asked after parking the car.
"Yes," I replied before quickly stepping out and walking toward them.
"Amelia," I said cheerfully, hugging her as soon as I reached her.
"It's good to see you," I whispered softly, then pulled back with a smile.
"You still look amazing," she said, making me smile.
"I can't compete with you," I answered and then moved to hug Toni.
"Hey, Toni," I whispered, then pulled back.
"You haven't charged much, too," I said loudly and faced Neo.
"Gosh, I feel annoyed just by looking at you. But I should admit it's not as much as when I look at Ian," I said as I moved and stood in front of him.
"Are you asking for death?" Ian asked seriously.
"How are you?" I greeted Neo, then hugged him happily, ignoring Ian's words.
"I'm doing okay, Samantha, and welcome to our pack," he answered and then pulled back.
"Ian, I see you are very much alive," I mocked as I walked to where he was standing.
"Do you want me to die that much, Felix?" he asked, then folded his arms.
"I want to say yes, but then it would cause Amelia so much pain," I answered.
He kept quiet and looked me in the eyes for a few seconds.
When he chuckled softly, I burst into laughter.
"When I die, Samantha, you will cry yourself to death," he said playfully and then spread his arms wide.
"Maybe," I answered as I embraced him.
When I pulled back, I smiled widely.
"It's good to see you, Ian," I said honestly.
"Likewise, Felix," he answered and then looked at Chase, who was greeting Neo.
"Chase is still a redhead; why is that? It's getting old. Can't you tell him?" he asked in a low tone.
"I can hear you, Alpha Ian," Chase responded and then approached us.
"Did you say she is here?" I heard Tamara's voice come from the pack house.
I quickly took a few steps forward with a wide smile.
My smile instantly vanished when she came out with Larson. Her hand was linked to his, and she had a huge smile on her face.
"Mother!" she exclaimed and then let go of his hand and ran into my arms.
I happily wrapped my arms around her and coldly looked at Larson, whose smile faded when his eyes met mine.
"Welcome to the pack, mother," she whispered.
"Thank you, my Angel," I said softly, then pulled back and looked at her carefully.
I hated to admit it, but she was glowing, and she looked happier than she was at our house.
"I am so happy to see you," I said softly.
"Me too, mother," she answered, then moved her hand to her neckline with a wide smile, showing off her necklace.
She really was so simple to read.
"Oh my, what a beautiful necklace!" I said loudly.
"I know, right?" she answered cheerfully, then glanced at Larson and extended her hand to him.
He frowned and looked at it, then at me.
"Hey, come over here," she said softly.
He hesitated but moved closer and took her hand.
"Larson bought it for me," she said happily as I faked a smile and faced him.
What the hell was this damn brat doing? Was he trying to win my daughter's affection with gifts? Was he seriously this stupid and selfish?
"He said that with time, he'd get me a ring," she said, and my fake smile vanished.
"Over my fucking—"
"Sammy, remember our talk?" Chase interrupted as he approached us.
"Dad!" Tamara exclaimed happily, pulling her hand away to rush into his arms.
"Ma'am, I would like to have a word with you, if you don't mind," Larson said in a respectful tone.
I glanced at Tamara, who was happily chatting with her father, then back at him.
"Sure, I can spare a minute or two," I replied curtly.
"Then please, come with me," he said, walking ahead.
I followed him to the back of the pack house, where a small gazebo stood, and sat down on a sofa facing him.
I was about to warn him off for trying to buy my daughter's affection when he suddenly knelt, taking me by surprise.
"Felix—no, Aunt Felix—mother-in-law... I'm so sorry for being such a jerk in the past to you, Chase, and Tamara," he said in a low voice, bowing his head until his forehead touched the floor.
"I was selfish and unreasonable. I know what I did is unforgivable, but I promise to do my very best to make things right," he added, his voice cracking with emotion.
"Are you mocking me?" I asked seriously.
"No, ma'am. What can I do to earn your forgiveness and approval to be with her? Please tell me," he said, then looked up.
His eyes were filled with tears threatening to fall.
"Then injure yourself and feel at least a little bit of the pain you made her go through," I answered seriously.
"I understand," he whispered, then stood up and raised his hand, pressing it to his chest. I could see his sharp claws.
When he raised his hand to thrust his claws in, I moved in a split second and grabbed his hand.
"Please let me do this, please," he whispered as a tear rolled down his cheek.
I hated it, but I could really hear sincerity in his voice.
"Larson," I called softly.
"Yes," he answered in a low tone.
"If you ever hurt her and make her cry in sadness, I will end you," I whispered softly.
He opened his mouth to say something when Tamara came running.
When she reached where we were, she looked at Larson and then glared at me.
"Mother, what did you say to him?" she asked loudly.
"It's nothing," I answered.
"Nothing can't make him shed tears. I know you don't like him, but he is really doing his best to be the best mate, and I love him," she said as tears filled her eyes.
"He has been so good to me and ..."
"Honey, I really didn't bully him, so don't you dare cry," I warned, cutting her off.
"Then why does he look so sad?" she asked in a sad tone and then turned to face him, moving her hand to his cheek.
"I am not sad; I am very happy," he answered and then smiled.
"Really?" she asked.
"Of course! After all, she has agreed to give me a chance to be with you and love you," he answered.
She turned and looked at me with a shocked expression.
"He's kidding, right?" she asked.
"Is that how you thank your mother?" I asked back.
She moved without warning and hugged me tightly.
"Thank you, Mother," she whispered.
When I held her back, I looked at Chase, who stood a little further away, smiling.
I could tell just by looking at him how happy he was about my decision.
I wanted our daughter to be happy, and if Larson was her happiness, then I wasn't going to stand in their way.
