August's POV
"Are you okay?" Tanya asked seriously.
I wasn't okay in any way, but I wasn't going to tell her that.
I was already nervous while driving, but now that we were here, I felt like I had made a wrong decision.
I could see the twins laughing and mocking Tanya, and us fighting because of that. I could also see Felix making a lame comment about how I went for the daughter after the mother failed to make me stay.
"I am fine," I answered and then frowned when I looked at the entrance.
Something was definitely wrong.
Not only did we cross Ian's pack, but we were parked close to the pack house, yet no one was there to welcome us. Not even the warriors, when it was so obvious that Ian knew I had crossed his border.
"Shall we go and knock?" she asked.
"Yes," I answered and then got out and went to open the door for her.
"Thank you," she said softly when she stepped out.
"Don't mention it," I answered and then shut the door.
"Do I look okay?" she asked in a low tone.
I looked at her from head to toe and then smiled.
"You look absolutely gorgeous," I said after I had grabbed her hand, linking it to mine.
"Let's go," I said simply.
"Reid, something is wrong, isn't it?" I asked silently as we walked to the entrance.
"Yes," came his steady response.
Unlike me, he was very calm and ready for whatever might happen.
I was about to walk in when Tanya squeezed my hand.
"Shouldn't we knock first?" she asked.
"It's fine; they are waiting for us," I answered and then went in.
I could pick up their scents clearly, and it was surprising that they were all here.
When I called Whitney and told her about Tanya, I also expected the twins to know about it. What I didn't expect was for them to tell Garren and Roxanne.
I stood outside the living room and looked at Tanya seriously.
"Don't freak out or be nervous; they will love you," I mind-linked her.
"Okay," she answered.
When we walked in, we found almost everyone there. Most of the family was seated, and only Ian and the twins remained standing.
I looked at everyone seriously and then glanced at Tanya, who was smiling.
"Hi, everyone," I greeted, not knowing exactly what to say.
"Who is she? Is she Teresa?" Garren asked seriously as I glared at him.
"If she is, then she looks younger than her age. Didn't you guys say she was way older than Lexi?" Logan asked.
I quickly looked at Tanya and noticed how pale she looked.
"Are you guys insane?" I yelled loudly, then tensed when the twins approached us.
Before they could stand in front of us, I raised my hand to stop them.
"I swear to the moon goddess I will fight the both of you if you disrespect her in any way," I warned seriously.
"Tanya, right?" Ryan asked seriously.
She looked at him, surprised, and then nodded.
"We heard a lot about you from this guy. We are happy to finally meet you in person," he said, shocking me.
"August, why didn't you tell us how hot your mate is?" Evan asked loudly.
"What?" I asked, feeling somewhat confused by their reaction.
"Tanya," Garren called, getting both our attention.
"I apologize for the harsh words that Logan and I said. It's just that my father-in-law made me do it," he said with a smile.
I looked at Ian coldly.
"What? He lost a bet," Ian said with a shrug.
"Enough of the teasing," Amelia said, then stood up and moved to where we were. The twins immediately stepped aside.
"Hi, dear, I'm Amelia. It's nice to meet you," she said, then grabbed her free hand.
"Come," she said.
I let go of Tanya's hand, smiled at her, and nodded.
She moved forward with me and got startled when all the ladies stood up and surrounded her.
"Where did you get this gorgeous dress from?" Felix asked loudly.
"Forget that; look at how beautiful she is," Whitney said.
"No, you guys, I want to exchange numbers with her, so step aside," Lexi said loudly.
I stood there smiling and feeling relieved as well as happy over how they welcomed her.
"Did you think we were going to treat her any differently from a family member?" Whitney asked through the mind-link without looking at me.
"Yes, I apologize," I answered honestly.
"It's okay, August. We knew that, and that's why Ian wanted to tease you. It was his idea for us to stay put in the living room and not welcome you outside. He wanted to see your reaction and have a laugh later on," she said.
"I apologize, but when we were playing a game, most of us lost a bet; that's why we were made to do this," she said.
I smiled and then looked at Ian, who was looking at me with a raised brow.
I bared my neck to show my respect and then bowed low to show my gratitude.
Despite looking tough and, at times, unwelcoming, he really was a kind and great Alpha.
As I looked up, I was surprised to see him slightly bow his head.
He wasn't only showing me respect; he was acknowledging my mate as part of his family. That made me so cheerful.
"Where is he?" Sharon's voice came from the passage.
I turned and waited for her to walk in.
When she walked in with Nana, I was surprised. She was pregnant and still looked beautiful.
"Look at you," she said happily, then quickly moved to hug me.
"Hey," I greeted after I pulled back with a smile.
Seeing her again made me so happy and made me realize how I had no feelings left for her, just as I had none left for Lexi.
"I came with my woman," I said loudly, then turned and looked at everyone when the room went quiet.
"I am finally happy," I whispered and then extended my hands toward Tanya, who happily moved and took them.
"Everyone, meet my mate and the love of my life, Tanya. Tanya, meet my amazing family. I will introduce each and every one personally to you, so you may know them by name," I said with a smile.
"Okay," she answered with a bright smile and then stood by my side.
"I told her everything about our kind, so you don't have to hold back," I announced loudly, surprising almost everyone.
"Oh damn, then I don't have to lie anymore. Tanya, our kind does shed fur, and right now my wolf is practically naked when I shift," Kyle said as everyone laughed.
"Kyle, that's so not cool!" Roxanne exclaimed, making me laugh.
The joke was a little out of line, but I felt so happy to be really in the pack with everyone laughing.
"Are you okay?" Tanya asked seriously.
I wasn't okay in any way, but I wasn't going to tell her that.
