Kyle's POV
It felt so unreal when my father called Larson and me into his office to tell us how we had to prepare ourselves because tomorrow the ceremony was going to take place.
All we could do was look at each other and then at him in excitement. We were also nervous about everything.
"How are you feeling?" Larson asked me seriously.
We were in the training field exercising.
"A little of everything. You know, scared, nervous, excited, and happy," I answered simply.
"What about you? How do you feel?" I asked.
"I feel so nervous and scared, but also excited because I have always looked forward to standing by your side when you take over as Alpha," he answered.
"I'm glad," I said honestly.
"Larson and Kyle, go to the border right now," my father's command came through the pack's mind link.
"Gosh, what now?" I whispered and then began to walk to the border with Larson right by my side.
"Maybe we are receiving other visitors," he said.
"Like who? Every member of our family is right in the pack house," I answered.
"Well, your father does have friends," he pointed out.
I kept quiet and continued walking for what felt like half an hour. When we reached the border, we noticed two cars parked close by.
I instantly smiled, knowing it was Lui by his scent. But when I picked up his father and mother's scent, my smile faded.
The doors to the first car opened, and Lui came out with Akira.
"Hi there," he greeted happily and then approached us.
I walked to meet him halfway and gave him a quick hug. When I pulled back, I looked at Akira and gave her a hug too, as Larson did the same.
"Why did you come with him?" I asked Lui in a whisper.
"Your father invited us," he answered, surprising me.
"He did?" Larson and I asked.
"Well, yes, he told my dad how you were going to step up as acting Alpha. He also said we had all the rights to refuse the invitation. But you know me, I couldn't miss it for the world, so I talked to Mom, and she made Dad come along," he said as I smirked.
"Nice," I whispered.
I felt so happy to have him as my best friend.
"Oh, I hope that you don't mind; my dad came with his Beta, and I came with mine. He is in the back seat," he said.
"Of course I don't," I answered.
"Good, then let's all go to the pack house together," he said.
"Sure," I answered simply and then walked to his car.
He got in the driver's seat, and Akira got in front.
Larson quickly went around the car and got in.
Before I could get in, I turned to look at the second car and gave a bow to show my respect to Alpha Damon and Luna Sherry, who were staring at me.
I then opened the door and got in. When I closed it, I shifted and looked at Lui's Beta, who had his gaze lowered.
This was the first time I was seeing him. He looked scared and uncomfortable for some reason.
"Dusk," Lui called in what sounded like a warning at the same time as encouragement.
He looked up and faced me seriously.
"It's a pleasure meeting you, soon-to-be Alpha," he greeted.
I smiled and then raised my hand.
"I'm happy to finally be able to meet you," I answered.
He looked at my hand, surprised, then took it and shook it.
"The guy sitting on your other side is called Larson. He is my Beta, and I am called Kyle. You are free to address us by names, not ranks," I said after I had dropped my hand.
He looked at Larson, and this time he was the one to offer his hand.
Larson smiled and then shook it.
When he dropped his hand, Lui started the car and drove, as the one behind followed.
"Your father is upset with me, isn't he?" I asked seriously.
"Why do you think that?" he asked back.
"Because your sister started off way ahead of you guys, and like you said, she said nothing to him when leaving," I answered.
"Well, he isn't upset with you. He's just acting like your dad, who usually looks upset with me. To be honest, your dad still freaks me out," he said.
I laughed and then kept quiet, focusing on the road.
After a few minutes, the pack house came into full view, and I could see my father, mother, Uncle Neo, and Aunt Toni waiting close to the entrance.
I didn't understand why my dad had sent us to meet and greet them first when it was his job. Was it a test he was giving us? Or was it because he was busy finishing up something, so he wanted to buy himself some time?
Lui parked close to them and stepped out of the car.
I did too and watched as he went to open Akira's door.
Larson and Dusk soon stepped out as well.
When the second car parked, Larson and I slowly went to my father's side and stood there.
Alpha Damon came out with his Beta, and soon their mates stepped out.
As Alpha Damon approached us, I could feel the atmosphere change, and it gave me chills.
I didn't want them to fight, no matter what. After all, Luna Sherry was once a part of our pack, and her reputation wasn't that good.
I didn't want them to fight, no matter what. After all, Luna Sherry was once a part of our pack, and her reputation wasn't that good. Moreover, she wasn't that friendly to my mother or aunt in the past, although they sorted out their differences a few years ago.
"Welcome to our pack, Damon. I appreciate that you and Sherry accepted the invitation," my mother said softly.
"Amelia," Luna Sherry whispered, and then moved forward and gave her a hug.
"We had no choice after all..."
"Dear," Luna Sherry called Alpha Damon after pulling back from the hug.
"It is our pleasure to witness my son's close friend, and soon-to-be ally, step up as acting Alpha," he answered and then looked at my dad.
"Ian," he greeted.
"Damon," my father greeted back.
"It's been a long time, Neo," Beta Alec said with a smile.
"I know, right?" Uncle Neo answered cheerfully.
They were the only ones who looked happy to see each other, besides my mother and Luna Sherry.
Aunt Toni was looking coldly at Luna Sherry, and so was Uncle Neo, who was trying not to show it.
"Please come on in; our family members are looking forward to meeting you," my mother said, then turned and went in.
I was worried but also okay because I knew how strong my mother, Roxanne, and the other members of my family were. There was no way a fight was going to break out without them interfering.
