Tanya's POV
"Is it usually like this?" I asked August seriously.
"What do you mean?" he asked back with a chuckle.
"You know, like some stranger coming into this territory and threatening them all," I answered as he shrugged.
"Well, what can I say? Our kind are so full of dominance that they tend to have fun ambushing weaker packs sometimes," he said, then looked at my father, who was quietly standing opposite us.
"Is everything okay with him?" he mind-linked me.
"I think he is a bit shaken by what happened," I answered through the mind-link and then moved closer to him.
"Dad, are you okay?" I asked seriously.
"Yeah, it's just that when I heard that heartwarming talk in the living room, I came to realize how terrible holding secrets is," he answered as I smiled.
"That's why I have none," I replied softly.
"Can I talk to you for a second, as in alone?" he asked.
I frowned and then quickly shook my head.
"No, whatever you have to say, you can say it in front of my man," I answered seriously.
"Remember what I said back then when your mother and I visited your apartment?" he asked.
"You had a trap card against her, isn't that what you said?" I asked back seriously.
"Yes, well, it's more of a story that she never wanted you to find out," he answered as I looked at August seriously, then back at him.
"Okay," I answered in a whisper.
"I told you that I would one day tell you when you have settled down. But seeing how you are going to get married soon, I want to tell you now," he said.
I looked at the ring on my finger seriously.
I was very happy when I was done with my course. It was more of a blessing because I found an amazing job, and August went on to propose to me.
Since then, my life took an amazing turn, and everything fell into place. Dad usually visited us and made sure he was a part of our life, while my mother wasn't upset, but she still didn't seem to fully accept us.
Despite feeling whole, I didn't want anything to ruin my happiness. What if his story would only break my heart and destroy it? Then what would become of my peaceful life?
"Dad, I think it's fine not knowing," I answered simply.
He moved his hand to my cheek and smiled.
"No, you deserve to know," he replied and then dropped his hand.
I looked around to see if there were any pack members nearby.
Although we were outside Alpha Damon's pack house, some pack members could be close by, listening in.
"It's okay, no one is close," August mind-linked me.
"Fine, Father, what is this so-called secret I have to know?" I asked.
"Well... I used to beat your mother. Actually, I hit her a few times, and it's my greatest regret," he said as I forced a smile on my face.
"Dad, I know that, and we both forgave you for that," I answered honestly.
"But I couldn't handle the pain when... when I discovered that she was cheating on me... with my brother," he said as I widened my eyes in disbelief.
"What?" I asked in a whisper.
"It was hard to accept, and when I asked her about it, she had no shame or remorse. That's why I lost my cool and raised my hand for the very first time," he said as I shook my head.
No, he was joking, right? There was no way that my mother would do this to him and make him seem to be the evil one.
"Dad, are you kidding me right now?" I asked in a low tone.
"Sweetheart, I can never do such a thing, and definitely not in such a situation," he answered.
I quickly began to dial my mother's number with an aching heart.
"Tanya, what are you doing?" he asked.
I ignored him as I moved my cellphone to my ear.
"Hey, honey," my mother answered.
"When were you planning on telling me about your affair, Mother!" I exclaimed furiously.
"What? I can't believe it! Did he have to tell you that? Is he finally tired of us and trying to push you to your biological father?" she asked at the top of her voice as I froze in shock.
"What?" I asked in a whisper.
"I can't believe he would do this to me!" she screamed as I dropped my cell phone and looked at my father seriously.
"Honey, you didn't have to call her; your mother will obviously be extremely upset with me," he said as tears clouded my vision.
"Dad... um... by chance, am I not your biological daughter?" I asked as he looked terrified for a second before lowering his gaze to the ground and shaking his head.
"You are my daughter," he said huskily as tears ran down my cheeks.
"Oh my God, I am your brother's child!" I screamed as he looked up and grabbed my shoulders tightly.
"Never say that because you are my daughter, my little girl whom I love and raised. There is nothing and no one that can change that. The bastard didn't deserve you and wanted nothing to do with you, but I did!" he yelled as a single tear rolled down his cheek.
I felt sick to my stomach just hearing the truth.
I pushed his hands away and took a step back.
When warm arms went around me, I quickly turned, burying my face into my man's chest, sobbing.
"Sir, please give us some time alone. That's all I'm asking for," August said seriously.
"Okay, but she is my daughter, and that will never, ever change. I love her, and I did everything in my power to make her proud," he said in a cracked voice.
"She is my baby girl," he whispered in a pained tone.
“And no doctor or papers can ever change that,” he said in a low tone.
I sobbed louder when I heard his footsteps move further away.
I was so furious, and it wasn't because of him. My anger and fury were directed towards the bitch that hid everything from me and made me believe lies.
I hated her from the very core of my heart and wanted nothing to do with her.
"I want to go home," I whispered huskily as August held me tightly.
"Of course, we will leave at once," he answered softly and then planted a kiss on my head.
