The shock on their faces was priceless when they spotted James. He'd been here the whole time, but I'd asked him to let me handle signing the company documents alone.
Aliya scrambled up from the floor, her eyes wide as they locked onto James. Before she could react, the guards seized her, dragging her toward the door.
Her screams tore through King Corporation's halls as she thrashed against them, nails clawing at anything within reach.
"You can't do this to me, Cain! Stop her! I gave up everything for you!" she shrieked.
Cain stood frozen at the head of the table, his face unreadable as he watched her being hauled away.
I settled back into my seat, my gaze steady as I took in Aliya's downfall.
"Cain! Say something! You love me, don't you?" Her voice cracked with desperation. "You're just angry—this is Elle's fault! She's poisoning you against me!"
Cain didn't flinch. His jaw clenched, fists tightening until his knuckles turned white, but he stayed silent.
"You'll regret this," she spat as the guards finally forced her into the elevator. "All of you will."
The doors slammed shut, plunging the room into heavy silence.
I turned to Cain, tilting my head as I studied him. "You're not getting away with what you've done either," I said coldly.
He exhaled sharply, shoulders slumping as my words sank in.
"I'm still your husband, Elle. We never signed the divorce papers," he shot back.
"I stopped being your wife the second I found out you helped kill my father." I reached into my purse and pulled out the final document.
"Here. Sign these and send them back to me ASAP." I thrust the divorce papers at him.
He recoiled, ignoring them. "I'm not ending this. We belong together. I meant every vow I made at the altar."
I hurled the papers at him. "You lying bastard!" I screamed. "After everything, you still think I'd stay?"
"Elle, please—" He stepped toward me, pleading.
James instantly blocked his path, trembling with fury. "Don't you dare touch her," he snarled. "She was never yours, and she never will be."
"Get the hell out of my way! I'm talking to my wife!" Cain lunged.
They collided with brutal force—Cain's fist smashed into James' jaw. James staggered but retaliated with a hard blow to Cain's ribs.
The office erupted into chaos as they brawled, crashing into the conference table.
"James!" I shouted, rushing to intervene.
The guards stormed back in, tearing them apart. Cain's shirt was ripped and splattered with blood; James' lip bled onto the pristine office floor.
"Get him out of here!" I barked at the guards restraining Cain.
Later That Night
Cain slumped in his penthouse, drowning in darkness. The worst day of his life. He'd lost everything—the company, Elle. He took another swig of whiskey, but the burn couldn't erase the memory of Elle's hatred as she threw him out.
His phone buzzed. Aliya's name flashed on the screen. After a long pause, he answered.
"What do you want?" he snapped.
"You just let them toss me out like trash?" she hissed. "After everything we built, you stood there while Elle humiliated me!"
"You brought this on yourself. You kidnapped Elle behind my back."
"No, Cain. I did what you were too weak to do. I made sure she paid."
"Did you call just to blame me?"
"I have one last plan to get it all back," she whispered.
Cain's grip tightened on the phone. "What are you talking about?"
"Meet me. One last time."
His gut screamed it was a trap. But he shoved the thought aside.
Leaning back, he rubbed his temples. Whatever Aliya was scheming, it wouldn't end well. Still… he needed a way to reclaim everything.
Maybe her plan would work this time.
He stood and headed for the door.
I'll send you the location.
