LENA POV:
“Cane?” I asked after a few minutes.
He was staring out the window, jaw clenched, knuckles white.
“Why are you acting weird? Where are we really going?”
He didn’t answer my question, I needed answers and he wasn't giving them to me. My stomach twisted with irritation and anger.
“Cane,” I said louder, voice cracking, “Answer me.”
Still silence, deafening. It was too quiet and heavy.
I reached for the door handle, but it was locked. The child safety lock clicked into place with a mocking snap.
“What the hell is this?” I demanded, eyes wide.
Finally, he turned to me. Cold. Distant. Different.
“I’m sorry, Lena,” he said softly as he stared at me with a look of longing. Like he was trying to make me understand what he couldn't explain himself.
The web was getting more sticky as the day progresses
“I had no choice.”
“No choice?! You told me I’d be safe!” I shrieked.
“You will be. Eventually. Just... not with Domino. Not in that hospital. You’ll understand soon.”
My heart pounded like a war drum. Betrayal hit me like a slap across the face. “You lied. You tricked me.”
“I saved you,” he snapped. “From him. From yourself. This is what’s best. You’ll see.”
I turned my face away, biting my lip so hard I tasted blood.
I twirled around and slapped him hard on his face. His head turned to the other side and he slowly turned to my direction with rage funding from his nose.
He looked like he wanted to kill. Me of course.
“Why are you making this hard for yourself? You don't know what I'm doing right now to help and you should sit and watch to help you rather than fighting back like you know what's wrong.”
I looked at him like he was sick in the head. He was, definitely. To think I would buy his bullshits.
“You think I would believe your cooked up lies? Then you must really take my meekness for stupidity, and I am anything but stupid," I retorted, my chest was heaving and I knew I won't feel better if I don't put my hands on him once again.
“You are running out of luck. Don't push me with your silly attitude. Fine, I would call him and you would listen to his response. Don't make a fuss while I'm on the call no matter what you hear."
I nodded. Waiting for him to pull out his dramatics. But the caller ID was that of Domino. I checked my phone and it was the same.
It was ringing and my heart was thumping to its beat.
The truth Claire had given me a hint might be revealed now or Cane is lying. I was hoping it would be the latter.
I don't want to get crushed again or I might actually lose it now.
“Hey man. What's happening now? You said you will call," Cane said, looking at me as he ,wait we rather as all my attention was on the call that was going on.
“That bitch is giving me an hard time,Claire spoke too much and she understands that I'm using her now.
But I'm still trying to convince her it's otherwise, but she don't want to believe the lie.
It's frustrating, and I'm beginning to rethink why I let her stay alive. I should have killed her rather than letting my emotions get in the way,” Domino said, grunting as he slammed his hand on the table venting out his frustration.
I couldn't move or say anything. I was going go crazy and losing it. It was true.
“Oh. She's really eating up your lies. But I don't think you should end her, she have…”.
" You keep asking me not to kill her like she's yours. You wanted her dead until you saw her. Let my guess, you want a taste of her too right?” Domino asked, his lighter booming in the background tearing my heart apart into bits.
" I would call you back, the cops just pulled me over.”
I was choking on my tears, I couldn't even cry out loud.
“I tried to warn you but you thought I was lying to you. This is bigger than what you think is actually going on,” Cane said, dropping his phone back into his pants.
I was staring at him, my thoughts were running wild. My head was blank and I was feeling hazy from the effect of the words in me.
“I feel like the car is spinning. Is it?" I asked, and I feel into Cane's body and got plunged into deep darkness and emptiness.
I woke up in a very dark room, empty dark room. I was still feeling dizzy, and I tried getting up.
But I noticed I was tied up like a prisoner. Not too tight. But firm enough to hold me in a spot.
“Oh you are awake. Good. You and I needed to talk before you blanked out while we were driving towards here.”
Cane walked towards from the shadows and smiled with a glass of wine in his hand. I tried struggling and he tilted his head with an amused expression on his face.
“Why am I tied like a fucking criminal? Release me now, I'm not your prisoner,” I yelled, tugging on the rope trying to free myself.
“I wish I can. But your fate have been decided already when you got pregnant with his child. You didn't ask about him? Why did you get yourself wrapped with him?" Cane yelled, slamming the glass across the wall and I shook with fear.
I can't understand why he was annoyed, I don't even know him until I saw him that day when Emily almost killed me.
“i don't even know you. So what are you saying? This is getting more fucked up than I’m even admitting to. Who the fuck are you and how did I offend you? I need answers, all these is killing me.”
