LENA POV:
“What did you just say? You meant you have been hit by a woman? Why? What did you do?" I asked, looking at her with pity and tears almost falling from my eyes as she looked at me with innocence and smile still plastered on her face.
“Yes, she said I was a bad girl. I didn't steal it, she gave it to me and screamed later," she said, picking on my dress.
It was a yellow casual dress with rose petals, it was ordinary but it seemed to have caught her attention.
“Mummy would be looking for me. I need to go back there so she won't think I have left the mansion. Mummy's a worry baby.” She said, getting down to her feet immediately.
But I couldn't let her without giving her some snacks or food. She was just like me, poor and always working looking for the next meal to put on our table.
“I don't know your name, nice miss, I'm Melissa," She said, holding my hands as she looked into my eyes with her does ones and I smiled back her getting up to my feet.
“I'm Lena. You can call me that," I said, getting to my feet as I held her hands leading her to the kitchen.
Just in time to meet her mom looking around for Melissa quietly without making a noise. No wonder I didn't see her when she went up to the room to clean it up.
“Oh my goodness. You have gotten to trouble, I told you not to leave my sight. But you would never listen," her mother said, tears trickling down from her eyes as I stared back with shock evident in my eyes.
“So sorry ma'am, please spare her. She's just a child and this would never repeat itself again. I won't bring her again to disrupt your peace," she pleaded, and I found my tongue again.
Melissa had hidden behind me, she must be awfully scared of her mom and the scolding she was receiving.
“The only reason why I would be getting annoyed with you is if you beg like that again.
Why would you be pleading like you would think I want to hurt your child. She's like a little sister to me.”
She stopped crying when she looked up to see a frown on my face, she was surprised that I wasn't acting like the bitchy bratss she have been working for; Cane's mistresses.
" Ma?”
"You didn't allow me explain to you, she's not like that Mama. She's very nice and her name is Lena.”
" I'm sorry ma'am. I thought you would be so annoyed with me. I would wipe your room incase there's any stain. Master hates dirt, that was the only thing that would get him annoyed.” She explained, and she got up to her feet with my help.
" Oh. Don't worry about that, I would tend to it. You can go make something for Melissa.” I said, and she snapped her head with her hands stopping on the way from picking the mop.
" Ma? Oh, there are leftovers? I would take it home. Thank you so much.”
I looked up with disgust on my face, she have to be joking if she think I would let her take some dirty crumbs off the plate when there was so much to share with her.
" No. Follow me," I said, holding Melissa as I left her mom still looking at me with surprise latched on her face.
I walked down the stairs with Melissa adding more struggle thinking she was helping me down. I laughed and she giggled back at me when we got to the end..
“Thank you for helping. You are such a good lady. Why aren't you in school yet?"I asked, while tying the apron around my waist.
" Can I have one too? Uncle Sean won't be annoyed. I have helped him once too, Mama doesn't know..she would freak out.”
"Cane? Nice to you? Are you sure?” I asked, looking at her to be sure that I had heard her rightly.
" Yes.”
Wow, who could have thought that the man who had abducted me against my wishes would be so nice to little children.
I had packed lots of food and drinks in the biggest bag I couldn't believe existed. It would be so heavy, so I rushed leaving Melissa to a cake she was eating without even noticing my exit.
I went into the room I suspected to be that of a cane. I hope I see what I'm looking for. I couldn't spare any time to give him a good look over, though it was black and white.
Seeing it on a counter and I picked just a hundred dollar note. And left immediately without even taking a note of the man in the room looking at me with a strange emotion on his face.
“See take this. I can't give you more because I'm not with my phone. But whenever you come around, I would send more to you. The bag packed in the kitchen is yours too. If it's not enough, then you can tell me so I can get more for you."
I was panting when I had finished talking, a tear ran down from her eyes down from cheeks.
She was crying? What did I do wrong this time? I thought good things made you happy and the emotion she was displaying right now.
“Thank you so much. No one had ever looked out for me and my daughter. Her father was ran over by a truck and he died. He was such a living father but I don't know what why bad things always happen to me like I'm the worst person to ever live."
Just when I was able to say an
ything, she rushed and hugged me before leaving like I had asked her to.
“Go home. It's late. Melissa is……”I followed her eyes and Cane was standing there.
