Lily crawled toward them on all fours, clinging desperately to their legs with snot dripping from her nose. She absentmindedly wiped her runny nose across Cassie's pants, making Jacob recoil in disgust. With a harsh kick, he shoved Lily away and spat, "I don't have a daughter like you!"
The livestream audience erupted in outrage.
[This is inhuman! How can they reject their own child?!]
Seeing the furious comments flooding in, Cassie ducked her head in shame and yanked Jacob's sleeve, silently warning him to shut up.
"Daddy! Mommy! Please take me home!" Lily wailed, her voice cracking with desperation. Jacob hesitated, his grip tightening on Cassie's hand as he stammered, "We'll...we'll come back for you later. We've got...things to do right now."
The moment the words left his mouth, they bolted for the exit—only to find their path blocked by an angry mob.
"Going somewhere?"
Dozens of young people materialized in the doorway, smartphones raised like weapons, their screens glowing with the ongoing livestream. Their expressions burned with righteous fury—these were the outraged viewers who'd raced to the scene.
The chat exploded with rapid-fire comments:
[They actually tried to run! Thank god we got here in time!]
[Don't let these monsters escape!]
A sharp-eyed college student shoved a microphone in Jacob's face. "So you abandon your daughter with cerebral palsy and think you can just walk away? We've got you dead to rights—what's your excuse?"
Jacob's face drained of color. Humiliation twisted into rage as he shoved the student. "Mind your own damn business, you nosy little—"
The crowd surged forward, cameras zooming in. "Try that again and this goes straight to the police!" someone shouted. "Public assault? We're all witnesses!"
Jacob froze, fear flashing across his face.
The shoved student rubbed his arm, stepping forward again. "Apologize. Now. Or I'm dialing 911."
Cassie jumped in with a frantic, saccharine smile. "Kids, kids—my husband didn't mean it! We were just...rushing to the restroom! Total misunderstanding!"
The crowd didn't blink, their gazes locked on the squirming couple like lasers.
