"Wow, you sounded really scary.." I couldn't hold back after hearing how Laura sounded. I understood that we all wished for Ella's death, but the way she put that threat would make everyone who heard it wonder, and I guess the alpha isn't left out either, as he squinted his eyes at Laura too.
"Yeah, I have never heard you with such a tone before. You sounded really scary." The alpha added in confusion shown on his face too.
Laura gave us no reply and stomped away, her feet hitting the ground so hard that one would think the tiles would actually crack. She was literally puffing and huffing, with visible veins running through the sides of her neck and arms.
The Alpha followed her immediately with a concerned look. One thing he couldn't stand was seeing his mate so upset and flustered. He was surely going to do everything possible to make her feel better again.
"You must be really happy now that you are slowly winning." I scoffed at Ella, who was squatting on the floor, and she raised her gaze at me.
"Are you ready to hear the truth about Laura?" She whispered, flicking her scattered hair off her face.
"What happened to her?" I snorted, gawking at her as she gently stood up from the floor, wincing from whatever pain she was going through.
"She has no cordial or good relationship with my mother that I murdered, but she appeared to be the one greatly disturbed and desperate to get me killed. Haven't you taken your time to think about it?" She asked, and I sneered at her, wondering what rubbish she was spitting out.
"No one needs to have a good relationship with the first Luna before detesting you with all they've got. You killed the Luna of the pack. A warrior and someone loved by all. You hurt the Alpha terribly by killing his mate, and you also put him to shame. Imagine facing the murmurs and jeers of other Alphas because he bore a child who slandered the woman who bore her!" I hissed, peering at her in disgust and irritation.
My eyes were scanning her entire body as I took some minutes to think over her last statement. Laura was a woman from another pack and first met Darren, our Alpha, at my 15-year birthday, which was held in the royal packhouse.
It was love at first sight, and he confirmed she was his mate. That was how they became lovers, and eventually Laura became the Luna. It was normal for everyone to hate Ella for what she did, but it was something to be concerned about after seeing how Laura abhorred Ella as if it were her mother that she killed.
"Laura isn't who you all think she is. I assure you that she is here for a deadly mission and has demons in her. I know you have no reason to believe me, but you can convince that alpha to force her into the demon test. Perform the rituals on her, and you will see that I am telling you the truth." Ella spoke in a strong tone, as if begging me to consider what she said.
"So the reason she is bent on getting you killed is because she is a demon? Assuming she is one of them, why would it be you that she wants dead instead of the Alpha? You are a despicable, useless wolf. literally the weakest of all. You are still alive because you have royal blood and nothing else!" I scorned, waiting for her explanations.
I'm not sure why I wasn't as angry anymore and was more interested in hearing her out. It wouldn't have been this way if I hadn't felt the strange sensation after Laura's last statement. It really bugged my mind.
"She wants me dead because I am the reason the demons haven't invaded this pack. My presence is pushing them away." She said it solemnly, but I couldn't keep my laughter from bursting out.
I laughed hard at the jokes she just cracked for me. Who wouldn't laugh after hearing this pathetic werewolf tell me she was the reason why the demons aren't attacking us?
"You are going mad from starvation and suffering, and I can tell clearly from what you uttered from that mouth of yours that you are literally trying all you can to escape your miserable life. Stop trying so hard to paint the new Luna black. She had been of great help to this pack, and there is no reason to taint her as evil. You are the evil one here!" I shunned her in annoyance.
I was beginning to regret standing here to listen to Ella for the first time. How could she call Laura a demon who was sent here for a deadly mission? That's the most ridiculous lie anyone could tell.
"If you get my father to bring in an exorcist and have them perform the rituals and demon test on Laura, Then at the end she isn't found to be a demon agent, I promise to kill myself instantly. The only reward I need when you all eventually find out that I am telling the truth about her real identity is my freedom. I don't want to be made the Alpha, just want my freedom to live the peaceful life I desire." Ella mumbled, sniffing her tears.
Her lips were quavering, and every word she spoke was really steaming with unspeakable emotions. Her eyes were shimmering as she rested her gaze on me.
"Please, do this for me. I don't think I can bear seeing you all suffer. It would hurt to watch my family get destroyed by the demons. Just believe me this once..." She pressed on, and as I stared into her face, I felt my heart soften, but just then, I recalled all that had happened in school today, and that rage swarmed in again.
"So can you explain to me why the demons want you dead before they can attack this pack? Is it because you are mated to the most powerful Lycan?" I sneered, gawping at her as I tried to maintain a steady breath.
"No. I have a powerful beast in me that would destroy them. I am a gift from the moon goddess sent to cast and demolish the demons. This beast in me can render their dark magic powerless and...."
"Shut up!" I yelled at her, as all she just said pumped jealousy inside me. She was literally praising and hyping herself. Imagine telling me to my face that she has a powerful beast in her that does this and that?
Oh God...
How stupid had I been to stand here and listen to this mad girl.
"I know it sounds like lies, but...."
I wouldn't wait to hear anything else as I shut her mouth with a hot slap.
"Don't you dare think you can fool me! You hate Laura because she is more serious about getting you killed. You are accusing her of being a demon, so you will turn me into her enemy and get me to side with you. I can see your evil plans, as Laura mentioned earlier." I paused and snickered while Ella shook her head with her hand placed on the cheek where my slap had landed.
"No. That's not it." She moaned, and I scoffed at her stupidity. For real, she actually thought I would be swayed by her lies. She was really trying to fool me.
"Ella, if there is anyone I strongly believe is a demon, it's you. Nothing else can explain how the almighty Lycan chose you as his mate. Who is better between me and you? Who is more attractive and gorgeous to be picked as his mate? Obviously, me! But you made him fall for you with charms, you desperate whore!!" I cursed, realizing just how envious and jealous I had been.
The Lycan prince told me to shut up when I had a question in class, but gave Ella the chance to make a request, which he quickly did for her. In his office, he slapped me and sent me away, then allowed Ella to stay with him. He had also given the order that she shouldn't miss class or I would be punished!
Oh, Gosh! What else can explain all this if not some fucking love charm from the demon clan?
I won't deny having a huge crush on the Lycan prince at first sight. Who wouldn't? When he's just a perfect walking work of art. A man so handsome and manly with not a single hair out of place. The man every woman would dream of having.
I fell for his beauty instantly, but on realizing he was the Lycan prince, I lost hope and pushed away all those feelings, only for him to start treating Ella special again.
My fear was that they were truly mates, which meant there was no way I could separate them. I just hope it had some charm.
"I am not a demon, and I did not perform any charms or use dark magic. You had all exorcised and tested me over the years." She sighed sadly.
"You are the Lycan's mate. That's why you don't want to die, and you pray we fold hands and watch you come back at us when he makes you the queen of the Lycan kingdom!" I blurted aggressively, fuming as my cheeks flushed red in fury.
"I will never be his queen." She exhaled deeply.
"So it has been a charm all this time?" I quickly asked, curiously waiting for a positive answer.
"The most important thing now is to expose Laura's identity. You are the beta's daughter, and I am the alpha's. It's our responsibility to save this pack. We have to get rid of her now before it is too late. I heard her retort at me and got more furious to see her bent on luring me to her side. I was angrier that she just reduced me to a beta's daughter.
How could she still call herself the Alpha's daughter after she had been disowned and rejected by everyone?
"Come closer." I ordered her with the intention of giving her a black eye. I planned to punch her directly in the left eye at that moment, but before she could take a few steps forward, Laura came, walking down the stairs.
"Come with me." She beckoned at me, her voice as cold and glazed as her eyes.
"You are lucky." I hissed at Ella before hurrying up the stairs to follow Laura to wherever she was about to take me to. I was also going to report to her and the Alpha all that Ella told me so they would punish her, but what I didn't realize earlier was the eerie darkness in Laura's eyes.
She grabbed my arm as soon as we got to the hallway on the last floor and wouldn't free me. Her grip was getting tight, so I tried telling her to release me, but when I turned, I wasn't seeing Laura anymore. She was transforming into a demonic beast.
Before I could make any sound, she dragged me into an empty room to the side and pushed me to the ground before locking the door.
"Laura! Who are you?!" I screamed in horror as she turned to me, her eyes turning bright red and lethal. As she let out guttural sounds and displayed the bloody red, sharp fangs in her mouth, she was suddenly surrounded by a dark gray fog emanating the pungent scent of a demon.
My jaw dropped as I shook in great terror, my blood running cold, and my eyes widened as I watched the Luna of the pack transform into a demon beast.
All that kept ringing in my head was Ella's warning earlier. She was right, and I was so stupid not to believe her.
