                    Selene's POV
There was an absolute silence that clouded the atmosphere, as if something terrible had happened.
Dracula wasn't talking anymore, and his eyes and attention were fixed at the door where the strange girl had just left. Although I didn't see her before she ran off, I overheard her screech. I heard that sharp cry of betrayal and heartbreak from her before she vanished like the wind.
Dracula heard it too and instantly lost his mind. He doesn't seem to notice my presence in the room anymore, as he stood transfixed with his face grimacing and eyebrows furrowed together.
I could hear his shaky breath and see how his eyes blinked rapidly as they suddenly shimmered with some kind of tender emotion.
"Who is that girl?" I finally broke the silence and was stunned at how Dracula flinched at my voice. He flicked his face back to me quickly, forcing out a weird smile as if he had just jolted out of a trance.
"You mean the girl that just ran out after seeing us?" He asked in a stuttering tone before letting out a short laugh.
"Yes, who is she?" I asked again, nodding as I felt anxiety tugging at my heart.
He noticed my unrest and placed his soft palm on my cheeks, looking into my eyes as he smiled sweetly.
"You don't have to care about some random girls because you are the only one I am in love with. I mean...why not? You are my mate. We both confirmed it now." He spoke gently, as if he were learning to talk. He seemed to be brooding over something, which he kept hidden with his reassuring smiles.
But I was really too sensitive. I could read the unease in his eyes as he was speaking to me. It was as if he was trying hard not to look back at the door. Something was fishy somewhere, and I could sense it in his reply. I just asked who that girl was, and he was already reassuring me that I was the only one he loved.
"Is she one of those bitches lusting over you and acting all stupid to get your attention?!" I snorted, and he frowned a bit at my words, which I had used intentionally. It was a tactic to check if he had any feelings for the girl, and I think I got it all right.
"You shouldn't call her that. She isn't a bitch!" He retorted, taking a deep breath to calm his nerves as he forced another smile to make everything look normal.
"Why was she hurt just now? She must have a huge crush on you and is pained that you have found your soulmate." I crooned, and he nodded, giggling.
"I guess so. But I don't care about anyone but you. I swear, you are the love of my life. What would have been my fate if you hadn't come into my life, Selene. I can't wait to introduce you to the world as my next queen," he cooed, stroking my hair and penetrating those charming eyes into my face.
His words and touch were so sweet and romantic, enough to make every woman melt, but my heart wasn't at ease. I was scared. I was scared of losing him already.
The charm was a very powerful one, created by my mother with a lot of rituals and sacrifices. It was a forbidden mate bond magic, locked up in an ancient cave, but my mother risked it all for me.
The survival of our pack depended on my relationship with the Lycan prince, because once I became his queen, I would have control over the Lycan armies and would be able to lure him into doing whatever I wished.
The charm was completely effective and perfect, as he was all over me, his eyes brimming with deep love, warmth, and intimacy. Even his wolf wasn't left out, as they both got drowned under the spell, forcing them to feel every connection and spark as if I were the true mate.
I was already getting overly excited and satisfied till this girl suddenly came into sight. The way she grasped Dracula's attention with just a single screech was something to be agitated about. He suddenly went into a daze, forgetting I existed.
I just hope I was the one overthinking things. I hope my fear isn't true, because I will never allow that to happen. No woman will ever snatch him away from my grip.
"Selene, do you still doubt me? Do you think I am lying to you?" His question broke me out of my thoughts, and I could see his eyes grow dim in disappointment.
"I believe you. I should really do. Please promise me no woman will..."
"No need of all that. Trust me, she is nothing." He reassured me, but I was still skeptical. If she was his mate, I had to kill her as soon as possible before her presence would tampers with the spell and opened his eyes to the fact that I wasn't real.
"I trust you. That girl is just one of your admirers who was hurt to see you with another girl. What is her name?" I asked with a huge smile to hide my secret plan to arrange her death quickly. The smile was to make him think I had no issue.
"There is no need for that. Can we just stop talking about some random student who bumped into us? When will you officially start schooling here? What pack do you stay, and will you be living in the school dormitory?" He changed the topic immediately, not wanting to talk about her. I really shouldn't be this concerned, but my heart wasn't settled.
I'm not sure why, even when I tried to forget about it, the agitation remained. At that moment, I wished the proprietor hadn't left the office to give us space. He would have been the right person to see the girl who ran into us.
He would have been the one to tell me her name and what class she was. I just want to find her and eliminate her quickly. The effect she had on Dracula was too special to be ignored.
"You are right. We shouldn't be talking about that obsessed slut!" I spat, and he smiled with a nod, taking my hand into his.
"Let's go to my office and talk then." He offered, and I nodded, his touch sending sparks all over my skin. It felt so good to be his mate.
I can't wait to be announced as his mate and the next Lycan queen.
"Besides, I will be staying in the school dorm because my pack is far from here, you know. But we will be spending a lot of time in your apartment." I said it with a grin all over my face.
"Whatever you want. You saved me from my horrible, cursed life, I owe you my life " he purred, pecking my lips. Even when I wanted the kiss to last longer and go deeper and more intense, I was still ecstatic to feel a little of it from his peck. It made me wet, and I couldn't hide my bright red cheeks as I blushed.
Something crept into my head as we both walked out of the office, sending a shiver down my spine as I pursed my lips and swallowed the huge lump that had formed in my throat.
It just hit me that the girl who left could be his true mate, who was actually the one who dissolved his curse. The love spell is all illusionary and won't be able to revoke the moon goddess curse. According to his father's letter, only his true mate can do that, and his father also mentioned that his mate will help him fight the looming war of the demons.
This means his mate isn't an ordinary wolf, and they had met and shared an intimate moment, which was the reason his cursed mark vanished. A girl in this school was the true mate, and she was the same girl who revoked his curse, not me. I just happened to come in at the right time to make the claim.
No one else could be this girl but the one who had just run away in despair. There was something about her that frightened me. There was an aura she gave off that really grasped Dracula's attention. Even when he denied it, I noticed it clearly.
"Don't you think you should explain to that girl that I am your mate and you didn't mean to hurt her. I understand what she would be feeling after seeing you with me. We should make her friend and let her understand we were fated." I said this to Dracula, and he was a bit surprised. My plan was just to know this girl. My brother is ready to assassinate her.
"Really?"
"Yes"
"But she isn't important. No need of that stress."
"Everyone's feelings are important. She is a girl like me, and I won't love making her cry. We just need to explain things to her. Okay?"
"Wow, you have a pure heart. I thought you already hated her because you are the jealous and possessive type who can't bear to lose me." He laughed as we both sat together on the couch in his office, which was a sparsely designed room with grey paint and expensive furniture. It was even more fashioned and well decorated than the proprietor's office.
"You are right, but at the same time, I care for everyone." I beamed, and his eyes sparkled with happiness.
"Okay, when?" He asked.
"I will enroll tomorrow. We can do that then."
"Whatever makes you happy," he cooed, and I wrapped my hand around his shoulder, trying to pull him into a kiss that I was craving, but just then, the school bell rang.
"What was that for?" I asked with a deep frown.
"School is over," he responded, taking my hands off and standing up. He shoved his hand inside his pocket to check for something, and a deep sigh escaped his lips when he couldn't find it.
He hissed and flopped down on the desk.
"What is it?" I inquired after seeing his worried look.
"I think I shouldn't lie to you. I should be open and communicate everything with you. Actually, the girl who left was someone I thought was my mate because I felt everything. The sparks, the intense attraction, and the intimate love. We just shared a romantic moment in the school restaurant. I really love her so much, believing she was my mate even when I was told by her father and stepmother that she was using charms." He began, and I stood in enthusiasm.
"Huh? Really? What else?" I urged, rising to my feet and paying close attention.
