Scarlett POV
It had been two days since we hadn't seen Ella. I left her at school that day; she insisted on returning Dracula's bank card, and since then until today, no one had seen her or known of her whereabouts.
The alpha had sent several warriors to scout through every nook and cranny of the pack to fetch her and bring her back to the royal packhouse, where she would be severely punished for breaking the first and most important rule given to her, which forbade her from attempting to escape.
Never had I believed she would have the courage to do something like this, knowing fully well that the alpha can easily find her wherever she hides, as long as it is in this pack and around the neighborhood. Her scent will always give her away.
It was morning and the third day that Ella had been missing without being found, and that was something so shocking to hear.
I had woken up from sleep but had no strength to go to school as I sat there on the bed wondering where the hell Ella could be. If she were in this pack, there was nowhere she could hide so that the warriors and hunters wouldn't be able to find her, and she couldn't leave the pack boundary without being caught.
The only person who should be aware of her whereabouts is the Lycan prince, as he was the last person she met after school that day. At first, we all thought he had taken her to the Lycan kingdom, and we sent a spy who went to the Lycan kingdom and confirmed that both the Lycan prince and Ella weren't there.
According to the rule of the werewolf, no royal wolf can stay out of sight for more than three days, no matter the magic. After three days, their scent will be exposed and their whereabouts found. If any wasn't found after three days, then they had been killed and burned to ashes; so today was what would determine if Ella were dead or not.
A knock sounded on my door before it was pushed open, and I raised my gaze to see Laura walking in dressed in her red night robe with her hair tied in a bun. She had a huge smile on her face, and when she saw me morose, her face crinkled into a frown.
"You are sad when this is the third day and they aren't found yet? Let me summarize something for you. I receive news from the demon clan that Ella and her loverboy fought with the demon who was third in rank. A very powerful demon was there, and it was in a forest where the moon was all covered. You know what that means? " She asked in a chirpy voice and with a smug look as she sat beside me on the bed.
Her words hit me hard as I turned sharply toward her; my eyes widened and my jaw dropped in shock and fear. My body trembled as I gasped and stared at her face, wishing she was just pulling my legs, but that was just a mere wish.
"I thought of hiding it from you, but I couldn't contain my joy and needed someone to pour it out to." She paused and laughed heartily.
"Since that day, they had not been found. The demon who fought them hadn't returned, so I guess they all died together, so it is a tie! The demon is ruling at last, and you will be free from my poison and allowed to leave and have the best life you desire." She added with a chuckle, caressing my chin, but her touch and smile were all irritating and itching my skin.
I felt like strangling her right there. Tears filled my eyes, and at that moment, I wished I never sided with her. It was so evil of me to do that and hide the truth from the Alpha and everyone. Now they will all die or become slaves in the hands of the demons.
"Why are you not happy? Are you thinking of changing your mind about being my friend?" She gawked, and I hissed, anger building up in me.
"But I don't want the Lycan prince dead! He is innocent," I snapped, looking away as my heart began to thump in guilt and deep sadness. I knew I didn't care about the Lycan prince, but I did care about Ella. She was the innocent one. A girl who had lived all her life doing nothing bad but good to everyone. As I shut my eyes, I could see her face.
One question that kept echoing in my head was: What did she do wrong to me that made me hate her and make her life hellish?
I was not different from the demons. I allowed mere bodyguards to unclad her and touch her like a slave, I took video record of her half naked body and went as far as making the future Luna my slave with the mark. Because of me, she went missing. I could have waited for her.
The tears in my eyes fell, and I began to cry, not minding that Laura was there. My heart was so heavy, and the guilt was eating me deeply and consuming every inch of me. I had every opportunity to save her and make her life better, but I chose the evil path because I was jealous and wanted to be Luna.
I had always been envious of her, even before she killed her mother and became the freak of the park. We were once friends, and I could swear Ella was the best friend anyone could have. Always putting others before herself and being so humble that some people wonder if she knew she was the alpha's daughter.
But when I had the opportunity, I betrayed her and joined others to cause her so much pain.
"Do you still know that the poison is in you? I can trigger it now and cause you terrible pain! Why in hell will you be crying when you should be so happy! You're feeling pity for Ella and that stupid Lycan prince!" She snarled at me, and I couldn't say anything.
I couldn't look at her as I buried my face in my palm, wishing I could rewind the hand of time and make right all my wrongs. She just reminded me that she owns my life. What was the very essence of doing all this?
"If Ella ever returns miraculously, you must do this. Destroy her mentally, and that will be done by broadcasting that naked video tape of hers you took weeks ago. Also, drug her and arrange boys to rape her, and also make a video of it, which you will also broadcast, telling the world that she is a slut selling her body for a small penny." I heard Laura blurt out, and it made me cringe away, darting my gaze at her as my jaw dropped and I froze in shock, wishing my ears had just deceived me.
"You said what?" I gasped, terrified to speak well.
"You heard me right. I have no time anymore. She has to be dead. Since physical assault could get me that, let's try this. Maybe shame and depression will suppress that urge to live on." Laura seethed with pure hatred in her eyes..."
"Why do you hate Ella this much?!" I burst out and she giggled.
"Some people have to die not because they did anything wrong, but because they are a hindrance. I've told you before, Ella is holding us down!" She shrugged and stood up.
"Do you realize what you're forcing me to do? Help you kill my family! You want me to help you destroy the same pack that bred me!" I cried out, and she laughed.
"You have another option, which is to perish with them. Maybe that would be better, right?" She sneered, and I got so weak and exhausted.
"Get prepared for school." She winked at me and walked away.
A few hours later....
The Alpha called a meeting in the palace. The new betas he had appointed were also present, as were the gammas and head warriors with the hunter leaders.
He wanted to announce a party to celebrate the death of Ella if today passes and she hasn't been found yet. According to him, the moon goddess had finally decided to have mercy on us and remove the dark cloud hovering around the park and bringing calamity on them.
I was fully dressed for school and decided to stay for the meeting and hear all he had to say. He has that same huge smile, just like Laura. I really have no idea how much Laura has brainwashed him, but staring at his happy face makes me realize what a clown and dummy he has become.
He was just so daft to see the true color of Laura. I was also that stupid until Laura showed the truth to me, and yet it shatters my heart that I can't say anything. I don't know if they will believe me, but what I know for sure is that I will die the moment I let the cat out of the bag, and I don't want to die at this young age.
"So, everyone. That curse is gone! She had been wiped out of our land, and now we have nothing to fear. The demon spy is nowhere to be found around this pack, which means her body has been burned to ashes, so the demons can't find their way in!" He spoke out loud in a tone full of authority.
"She is only missing, and today has just begun; how are we sure she won't return?" I chimed in even before I could push back my words, and everyone turned their gaze at me with glares and frowns.
"Ella had never dared to run away from this pack. It's only death that could make her stay away from here for two days." He replied calmly.
"And the Lycan prince is also dead? What could kill both of them?" I asked again.
"I don't think they are both dead. Why don't we see it this way, The Lycan prince finally came back to his senses and killed Ella? He might be feeling guilty and have decided to hide away for some days. You know Ella is his mate, but as she is a demon, he is bound to kill her!" The new beta cut in, and there were sparkles in everyone's eyes.
"You are right! That is it!" They all chorused, laughing and murmuring to each other gladly. The alpha was also so impressed.
"You are very thoughtful, my Beta. That is just the undisputed truth!" He chortled and turned to me.
"You heard him, right? So are you clear?!" The Alpha asked me, smiling.
"No, he is wrong!" We all suddenly heard Ella's voice from outside the door of the palace, causing a dead silence as everyone darted their eyes at the door, mouths agape.
No one wanted to believe what they heard till the door gave way and Ella stepped in, walking elegantly with a smile on her face and her eyes glinting mysteriously beautiful as if the stars in the sky were placed in them.
