There was a loud silence, and everyone couldn't believe their eyes as they all stared bewildered at her, especially Laura, who kept blinking and squinting her eyes at Ella, who looked so different than we all knew.
She appeared so different, yet I couldn't put my finger on what had changed in her. Maybe it was the confidence in her entire appearance—how her eyes, which had always held sadness and dejection, were suddenly glistening with pride like those of a queen who was controlling an empire.
Laura told me Ella fought with a high-ranking demon, but she doesn't look like one who went through a slight brawl. Her dress was still clean.
She still wore her school uniform, but it was suddenly well ironed and fitting to her body as if a new one had been made specially for her. Her brown hair, which had always been messed up and disheveled, was now permed, gleaming as it flowed down to her back like a waterfall.
There was also a pearl hair pin fixed at the side, making her suddenly appear like a princess and not the slave and shattered soul we all knew her to be.
Her porcelain skin was way too fresh and glowing under the radiation of the sun striking into the room from the curtains.
She wore a smile as she stared at the Alpha, and I could tell it really graced her face. She was undoubtedly so pretty and elegant from all angles.
What the hell happened? How did she change this much?
No one could talk as they kept scanning her and scrubbing their eyes just to be sure they weren't having illusions. The aura emanating from Ella was truly unspeakable.
"What is this meeting for?" Ella broke the silence. Her voice suddenly brimmed with authority, the type that made everyone flinch as they all grimaced.
"Where did you go to?" The alpha seethed, trying to ignore the intimidating appearance of Ella. He was the last person to be subdued by Ella's new nature, but no one can doubt that this wasn't the Ella we all knew, she had changed entirely.
"I was dead, but was given a second chance to right my wrongs. I was given a second chance to be the woman I was destined to be!" She responded with that cheerful smile, which she was the only one giving out.
No other person in the hall returned her smile, yet she didn't stop smiling.
"You broke the Alpha's rule! Now you snuck in thinking you can go scot free? I guess you should already know the punishment that awaits you for trying to escape!" Laura blurted, standing from her throne, with venom in her eyes and tone. The hatred was so pure and deep that everyone could feel it.
Before, Ella would shudder and begin to plead with tears in her eyes and fear wreaking havoc in her, but this new girl was still smiling and had also chuckled after what Laura said.
"First correction. He isn't just the alpha, but also my father. Secondly, I didn't try to escape. I was attacked by your fellow demons, but I managed to escape. I am sure you thought I was dead and can't believe your eyes now..." Ella replied with a smirk, and I could notice Laura flinch in shock but quickly compose herself.
"How dare you accuse the Luna of being a demon so boldly in front of us all? You have grown wings, huh?!" The new Beta snarled, his fists clenched, as he rose to his feet, glaring at Ella in rage.
"I didn't accuse her. I simply said the truth, which she knows fully well..." Ella paused and for the first time turned her eyes to me, forcing shudders of fear down my spine as I quickly looked away, swallowing the lumps in my throat. my heart began to thump hard.
I didn't know what was causing this terror to build up in me at her gaze. I can't clearly explain how Ella, who was my slave, was suddenly instilling panic inside me, but I knew deep in me that she had gotten some supreme powers. That weak girl that anyone could oppress and bully at will, had died, and a dangerous girl had taken her place.
"Why are you looking away from me, your slave? Well, you can bear me witness that what I told my father is true. You are aware of the demon attack on me because Laura told you, and you also know her true nature as a demon agent. Am I right?" Ella asked, and I looked up sharply at her, my mouth agape as more fear gripped and choked me right there.
My blood ran cold, and I was shivering from the cold chill that spread through my entire skin as my eyes rested on Ella, whose eyeballs held a secret like the depth of the ocean. Her smile was eerie and mysterious.
"What are you saying?" I muttered as I saw how everyone was peering at me after what Ella said. Laura was sending me warnings with her eyes too.
She ignored me and turned back to the Alpha, who still couldn't understand fully what was going on.
"You won't even welcome your missing daughter. You aren't even happy to see me return in one piece..." She shook her head in disappointment, stepping closer to him.
"You are not my daughter! If you lost your memories wherever you vanished to, I will have to spare you the time to remind you that you, a bloody killer of my mate is no longer my daughter! I've disowned you for years now. Get that back to your empty skull!" The Alpha bellowed, his eyes blazing in rage as he gritted his teeth and glared at Ella, who let out a short laugh as if the alpha had just told a funny joke.
She was no longer fearful, and not even the Alpha's intimidating aura could force her into submission. I could see how stunned the alpha was when he saw her laugh undisturbed.
"You are still so gullible. I thought you have become a little bit smarter to interpret the handwriting on the wall." Ella snickered, and the Gamma, who had been quiet all this time, suddenly became so provoked and outraged after hearing what Ella sputtered.
"You just said our Alpha is gullible?" He fumed, stepping forward. He was the first to advance on Ella since she came in. After the Alpha, he is the next huge and muscular werewolf feared by everyone. As the commander and trainer of the pack warriors, he was really powerful and feared when aggravated.
I also fear him, but Ella didn't make any move when he came for her with that menacing look on his face.
"It is good to be honest. My father is really dumb at this point!" Ella whined, and that was all he could take. The Gamma attacked her aggressively with claws and fangs, ready to teach her an unforgettable lesson, but what we saw with our eyes left us all dumbfounded.
The speed of the gamma was unmatched, and everyone expected his punch to land directly in Ella's face, but how Ella swiftly dodged it in a snap, so easily, wafting like the wind left us dumbstruck. None of the blows or kicks from the Gamma touched her.
It was as if she were reading the gamma's mind, knowing the exact place he was attempting to strike and making it so easy to duck, swerve, and dart away from it. It went on till the Gamma was left panting and gasping for breath, with sweat all over his face.
"Dad, how will you allow him to attack me? Gosh! A common gamma fighting the princess, yet everyone is acting like they are blind?! Fuck! Y'all sucks!" She spat and hissed.
"I can see your demons have empowered you with dark magic and powers. That is the reason for your confidence, huh?" The alpha growled, standing to his feet too.
"I just want to be on my own, waiting for the demons to strike so I can destroy them. That's my mission here in this pack. After I am done, I'll leave you all and never return." She spoke with a very stern voice, and her eyes were fixed on Laura while she said those words.
"You are a slave to Scarlett. I can see you have become unhinged. I'll tame you cruelly if you don't submit!" the alpha warned, infuriated, and Ella sighed, shaking her head as she sneered at him.
"There is no more slave mark here. I am no one's slave." Ella snapped and unbuckled a few buttons of her shirt before pulling down her collar to expose her entire neck, which had become so clean and fresh with no single trace of a mark.
How???
That was the look of confusion on everyone's faces. How was the mark gone? So mysterious. Ella seemed to be something none of us could explain. This must be why the demons are fighting so hard to end her life.
"You visited the demon clan, and the demon king helped you clear off that mark. You went and spent these days there; that is why we could not find you. Ella, you will fail in your devilish plans. I believe the Alpha will destroy you very soon!" Laura rasped with a loathing gaze at Ella, who doesn't seem to care about her at all this time.
Ella had always dreaded Laura, but now, her words don't move her. After what Laura blurted, Ella rolled her eyes and moved her gaze toward me.
"We are late to school already. Let's go!" She spoke briefly and began to head to the door.
Right from behind, with the thought of attacking her unexpectedly, four bodyguards charged at her just as my father secretly ordered them with a sign, but if he had known earlier, he wouldn't have sent those innocent men to their early grave.
Ella made a swirl in the air, sending powerful kicks at each of them from above the ground, her sole slamming their heads so hard that the cracking sound of their skulls could be heard as they all crashed on the floor, going limp instantly.
"I just wanted to be left alone." Ella uttered under her breath with a silent hiss, flashing a threatening glance at the alpha before making her way out while I followed from behind but with enough gap between us.
