And that was how it all happened, right in my face. Like a dream, like an illusion that I thought was all playing in my head. It was so shocking that I couldn't talk; no sound could come out of my lips as I watched their faces, their eyes glinting with pure hatred and venom that showed how much they wanted me dead.
No single one of them would ever spare me if they had the powers and abilities to defeat me. The only person who still trusted me was Dracula, my mate. Even Scarlett, who I was with when the death of my father occurred, still leered at me like a murderer. She won't say it out loud due to fear, but I could see how she looked at me differently now.
Randy and Selene, whom I thought I had made my closest friends and who should stand by me and defend me against the accusations of my own people, hurried off to their pack with claims that they had serious issues to attend to.
I was left all alone, standing in front of everyone like a different breed, an alien who no one could recognize anymore. They peer at me just as if I were a monster.
They had all gathered at the square, and my father's letter would be read out to them once again. That was the evidence the investigators found in that room that my father was killed. I was the only one to answer the questions lingering in everyone's mind because all fingers are pointed at me as the brutal killer.
They hadn't pounced on me because of my new strength and the Lycan I had as a mate, but their eyes said it all. I would never be loved by them. They will never accept me as their leader and would prefer to die at the hands of the demons than ask me for help.
The cold breeze of the evening blew over my face, scattering my hair over my face as I stood there with Dracula up on the elevated floor, which would make everyone see me clearly. It was a position where every Alpha of our pack stood, as they would be introduced to the people as next to rule. It was a stage for new rulers to be offered to the people, who would scream their approval and acceptance.
Everything would then round up with a big party. Mine is different. I am here to answer an accusation that I knew nothing about. Something that left me confused and dumbfounded Even my brain had gone numb, because how will I explain? Where will I start?
"Do we all care to know anything about Laura? She should be the prime suspect here!" I spoke out with all the courage left in me.
"We don't care about her because she is a chosen mate of our Alpha and not his fated one. She isn't our true Luna. You killed the true Luna, and now the Alpha points at you as the reason for his death. Explain it to us! A man from the crowd retorted, and the crowd went noisy in approval of what the man had said.
"Kill us all you want. But we want you out of this place. You're evil!" Another voice shouted at me louder from the crowd, and the noise went wilder.
"Silent!" Dracula's voice struck like truck like thunder, and in an instant, every noise died down, and the whole place became dead silent, as if everyone had gone deaf.
"I understand your fear, but it shouldn't make you stupid. I, the great Lycan prince, am standing here beside her to defend her from this accusation, not because she is my mate but because I am very sure she didn't harm your dickhead Alpha. He caused his death on himself!" His voice roared as he glared at them in fury.
"The what about the letter We all clearly know the alphabet's handwriting. You knew her after finding her as your mate, but we saw her born into this world and grow inside here with us. Are you aware how she cruelly killed her own mother?" A burly man from the crowd picked up courage as he said all that to the Lycan prince.
Others joined in to support him afterwards.
"What about Laura too? Why did she run away? Have you checked on that before pointing fingers at my innocent mate?" Dracula fired back, and there was silence.
"Please everyone, I am still the Alpha's daughter. No matter what happens, And with my new powers and the Lycan kingdom becoming one of our families, we will be a great fortress that no one or group can defeat. The demons, vampires, humans, and dragons all won't be able to harm us at all. We won't live in fear anymore, and...
"We don't want you to rule us! Either Scarlett takes over the throne or we assign someone else ourselves. But since you are already filled with powers and can do whatever you want, go ahead and take over the throne forcefully. We can't stop you before we lose our lives too." One of the men in the front row burst out with pure resentment brimming in his eyes and voice.
His words hurt me badly. I felt the real pain of being wrongly accused yet finding no way to prove my innocence. It made my eyes wet with tears. It's not like I am desiring to be their Alpha so badly, but it is my birthright, and since my mother died, I have lost it all.
I just wanted to feel like a normal girl again. I want to feel that atmosphere of royalty and respect. That moment when everyone sees you for who you are—the high rank you hold in the pack—and loves you, treating you with utmost respect and regard as the next ruler— I didn't want to be an outcast anymore, but it seems my fate was a very unfriendly one.
"Come over here!" I heard Dracula's order from the man who just spokeman who just spoke. The anger in his tone and how his eyes glinted red with his fists all clenched showed there was really danger, and the man was going to be so unfortunate soonest.
"I am not afraid to die for speaking for the people." He huffed at Dracula and turned to the crowd. "They are killers, and our lives will never be safe in their hands as long as they force themselves on our throne. We all die once, but we must stand for our rights and the truth!" He shouted, and there was an uproar like a group of desperate and angry protesters.
The man turned back to Dracula and began to walk forward.
"Please don't hurt him." I begged under my breath, tears cascading down my cheeks. I don't even know what to do or say anymore. The fact that my father wrote that letter was really enough to pierce the deepest part of my heart so painfully.
He did that to ruin me because he knew that without it, the pack wouldn't allow me to become their leader and would hate me forever. There is no place like home, and the best feelings I had always desired since my life went sour was the day I would finally have my normal life again when all my friends would come back and make peace with me, so we would all return to that blissful life with my pack members as before.
But it seemed like that was a mere dream that was never going to become reality.
"Why shouldn't I hurt him when they keep hurting you with their false accusations?" Dracula said to me in annoyance, and I let out a short laugh.
"It is their choice. They can do whatever they want. Very soon the truth will hit them like a rock, and then they will come back looking for me, but it will be too late then."
"No one is coming back to look for you. We are all scared of you, not out of respect but because you kill your own people, your own family, and pack members. You can't be our ruler!" The gamma spoke out in a clam voice and was supported by everyone in the crowd.
"Please, we will love it if you leave us alone. We can't force you out. We can't force you not to climb up that throne since you're stronger than everyone here. But just know we won't regard you as the alpha. No one will bring their issue for you to resolve, and we will all live our lives like packs without an alpha." The new beta was added, and I didn't know when I let out a chuckle.
"You all are scared of me when I should be the one afraid of everyone here. My mother was possessed by a powerful demon, and I was able to kill her to save my own life, but no one believed me; instead, I was made to go through the most hellish and painful life experiences, even from my father. I suffered terribly at your hand, and now you all are suddenly scared of me, really?" I shot back, with anger building up inside me.
I stared at the gullible and most stupid pack members in front of me, wondering how I was born here. I'm wondering how these people turned out to be my fellow inhabitants of this place. How are they so stupid and dumb like this?
"We are afraid of you because of your new powers, which we don't know where you got them from. Out of nowhere, after going missing for days, you returned with special abilities that made you powerful. We don't know the source and are intimidated already." A voice from the heart of the crowd shouted loudly at me.
"And you claimed it was from the moon goddess to help you destroy the demons, yet since you returned, two people had been killed by you, and none were demons. It was one of the bodyguards and our Alpha. We can't trust such a vicious heart!" Another voice rang out too.
"You all are saying this won't have gotten a second chance to breathe if she isn't holding my hand." Dracula scoffed, irritation plastered all over his face as he stared at them, hurling those accusations at me. None of them were still in doubt that I didn't kill my father. They all believed even without clear evidence.
"Who knows if that demon that killed my father forced him to write that letter? Can't you guys think clearly?" I blurted, and the noise died down a bit, turning into murmurs as they seemed to be contemplating among themselves.
"She might be right!" The beta spoke in the corner, where he stood with others, and it was as if their eyes were opening.
"Laura was at home when all this happened. Why did she suddenly disappear?"
"Only a criminal runs away from a crime scene!" Scarlett said in a loud voice, and I could see the realization hitting them one after the other.
"Laura killed the Alpha! Unless she returns and explains what happened and why she ran away, She remains the prime suspect!" The Gamma spoke, admitting their stupidity all this time.
Well, I can't wait to set my eyes on Laura. If she ever shows up, I won't hesitate to kill her instantly.
