I was so furious my water broke—and my husband told me to fend for myself. In the end, my baby and I died.
The day my husband, Jaxon Rivers, married his childhood friend Ruby Wells, I—Olivia Stone—was so upset my water broke. He called off the wedding immediately. I thought he was taking me to the hospital, but instead, he turned the car around and drove to Maplewood Residences. He locked me inside and left me there to rot.
Then he went back to finish the wedding with Ruby.
Some guests questioned if he was being too cruel, but he just shrugged them off.
"I only married Ruby to keep up appearances for her family. Olivia couldn't handle it and ruined everything by pissing herself. She's only six months pregnant—how could her water have broken?"
"I'll let her out after Ruby and I get back from our honeymoon. There's enough food in the house—she won't starve. Maybe this'll teach her a lesson."
What he didn't know? I'd lied about being two months behind to protect his career.
A week later, he came back, smug and ready to take me home.
But when he saw my lifeless body and deflated belly, he completely lost it.
When I opened my eyes again, I was at Jaxon and Ruby's wedding.
Ruby was wearing the million-dollar wedding gown Jaxon had custom-made for me. She clung to his arm, flashing me a sickeningly sweet smile—her eyes dripping with smug satisfaction.
Tears welled up, rage boiling inside me. I lunged forward to stop them… only to pass right through their bodies.
That's when it hit me.
I was already dead.
All that was left of me was a ghost, forced to watch the nightmare unfold.
Before the despair could fully sink in, the guests started chanting:
"Kiss her! Kiss her!"
Most of them were our friends—people who'd once sworn loyalty to me. Not long ago, they'd all pitied me, promising they'd never support Jaxon and Ruby.
Yet here they were, cheering them on.
I let out a bitter laugh.
Of course. Their kindness had always been about getting close to him. Now that they could suck up to him directly, why would they care about me?
Still, one person spoke up weakly:
"Jaxon… isn't this too cruel? What if something happens to Olivia?"
Jaxon swirled his wine glass, unfazed.
"She brought this on herself. I'll let her out after the wedding."
"There's enough food in there—she won't starve. I've spoiled her. A little suffering might do her good."
He had no idea.
I was already dead.
And he'd killed me with his own hands.
A week earlier, Jaxon had proposed a fake marriage to Ruby—who was pregnant out of wedlock—to "save her reputation."
I refused.
"If she wants to play pretend, she can find someone else. Why does it have to be you, a married man? She's up to something!"
He called me petty. We fought.
In the past, I would've caved—begged for forgiveness, agreed to his insane demand just to keep the peace.
But not this time.
I stood my ground. Even threatened divorce to make him drop it.
I never thought he'd go behind my back and marry her anyway.
Seeing them at the altar sent me into such a rage that my baby kicked hard—and my water broke.
Jaxon stopped the ceremony, scooped me up, and rushed me to the car.
I thought we were headed to the hospital.
Instead, he drove straight to Maplewood Residences and locked me inside.
He was the one who led me to my death.
Snapping back to the present, Jaxon suddenly turned to Henry Bennett.
"Go check on Olivia. If she's ready to apologize, maybe we'll let her out early."
I could only laugh bitterly.
Apologize for what? I hadn't lied. I was in labor.
But thanks to Ruby's manipulations, Jaxon believed I'd faked it to ruin his wedding.
He trusted her over me.
Seeing his hesitation, Ruby clutched her stomach and put on a pitiful act.
"Jaxon… Olivia did push me earlier, but she's still pregnant. What if something happens to her? You should let her out."
"This time, I'll protect my belly. She can hurt me, but she can't hurt my baby…"
Earlier, when I'd stormed into their wedding, Ruby had smirked and taunted me until I snapped.
Pregnancy hormones already had me on edge—her words sent me lunging at her.
But before I could even touch her, she collapsed, screaming like I'd shoved her.
That's why Jaxon locked me up—to punish me for daring to "hurt" Ruby.
Now, hearing her fake concern, Jaxon patted her hand reassuringly.
"Don't worry. No one's touching you or the baby while I'm here."
Then, coldly, to Henry: "Tell Olivia she can come out when she's ready to apologize to Ruby."
Ruby nuzzled against his shoulder, batting her lashes.
"Jaxon… you're so good to me and the baby."
The guests ate it up, teasing:
"Why not just make it official? You and Ruby have history—way deeper than whatever you had with Olivia!"
Ruby blushed, tugging his sleeve.
I braced myself for Jaxon to agree.
Instead, he frowned.
"Don't say that. Ruby and I are just pretending. Olivia's the jealous type—she'd lose it if she heard this."
A bitter taste filled my mouth.
If he really cared, he wouldn't have married Ruby in the first place.
Hollow words meant nothing now.
Ruby's smile faltered. The room went quiet.
Then—Jaxon's phone rang.
Thinking it was me calling to beg for forgiveness, he answered immediately.
"Olivia, you—"
A stranger's voice cut him off.
"Hello, are you Ms. Stone's husband? This is Silverbrook Hospital. We've been trying to reach her—she missed her due date check-up."
Jaxon froze.
"What? She's only six months along. What due date?"
The doctor paused.
"Six months? Sir, she's eight months pregnant—nearly full-term. And you didn't know?"
