Jaxon's legs turned to stone the moment he saw the body. His blood ran cold, his face draining of all color.
"Is that... Olivia?!"
He whirled on Henry, his eyes wild with horror, his voice sharp as ice.
"Henry! What the hell is this?
"I told you to look after her! Is this how you fucking take care of someone?!"
Jaxon lunged toward the body, but Henry scrambled in front of him, forcing a nervous laugh.
"Mr. Rivers, relax—it's just one of Mrs. Rivers' pranks!
"You've been ignoring her lately, so she must've gotten a silicone dummy made to look like her. You know how dramatic she can be!"
Jaxon clenched his jaw, but doubt flickered in his eyes.
"And the stench? The blood? That part of the joke too?"
Henry doubled down, sweating bullets.
"Gotta sell the bit, right?
"Mrs. Rivers went all out this time. She's pissed, no question."
Jaxon exhaled slowly, nodding—until a sudden glint caught his eye.
He snapped his head toward the body.
"Wait—something just flashed over there. Was that a ring?"
He moved forward, but Henry seized his arm, voice dripping with false confidence.
"Mr. Rivers, you're imagining things. No way that's a ring.
"You're just shaken up. Mrs. Rivers is fine—she's got her phone. If something was wrong, she'd call you, right?"
Jaxon's shoulders loosened slightly.
I almost laughed.
Of course, he'd forgotten—he'd locked me in this villa, taken my phone, left me to rot. By the time I was bleeding out, I couldn't scream for help. Couldn't do anything but wait to die.
If he'd looked closer, he'd have recognized me.
That flash? The custom diamond ring he'd bought me—worth millions.
Jaxon turned back to Henry, jaw tight.
"Then where is she? Where's Olivia?"
Henry faltered. He stammered something about me hiding, sulking, refusing to see him.
Jaxon scoffed. "The villa's not that big. How long could she possibly keep this up?"
He tore through the place, room by room—but all he found was blood.
No sign of me.
His panic spiked when he spotted the unopened instant noodles, the untouched water bottle.
"None of the supplies were touched. Henry, where the hell is she?"
Henry swallowed hard, scrambling.
"Mr. Rivers, a few days ago... Mrs. Rivers had terrible stomach pain. I took her to the hospital.
"She made me swear not to tell you. I—I didn't know what else to do."
Jaxon's eyes darkened. "Which hospital?"
Trapped, Henry blurted the first name that came to mind.
"Beaconridge."
Jaxon snatched the car keys, already moving—until his phone rang.
Ruby's voice, shrill with panic, cut through the air.
"Jaxon! The baby's coming—I'm in so much pain!
"I'm home, and the roads are a mess. You have to take me to the hospital—now!"
