As darkness crept over my vision, I saw the Nolan men rushing toward me.
Meanwhile, the mute servant began stirring awake, whispering hoarsely, "It was her..."
So she could speak after all.
Then everything went black.
When awareness returned, the System's voice pulled me from the void. My spirit floated weightlessly above the scene.
[Congratulations, Master. Mission complete. You've maxed out emotional scores from all three Strategist targets. Your terminal illness in the Original World is cured. Choose to remain here or return home. Staying earns you a Rebirth Pill.]
Below me, the Nolan men wept in anguished regret over my lifeless form. My choice was clear.
"I want to go home - back to my Original World."
I awoke gasping in a hospital bed, surrounded by tearful, ecstatic faces.
"Cora! You did it!" My mother clutched my hand. "The doctors are calling it a miracle!"
My body felt whole again, restored to the age I'd been when accepting the mission. I finished school, graduated, and traveled the world with my relieved parents.
While packing one day, the long-silent System reappeared.
[Master, the world you strategized has reached its conclusion. Please review the Ending and provide upgrade feedback.]
In spectral form, I revisited that world. The truth emerged - the "mute" servant had faked her condition for extra pay. To escape Lydia's wrath, she'd revealed everything she'd witnessed.
The Nolan men weren't fools. Had they set aside their prejudices and investigated properly, they'd have discovered Lydia left willingly to live happily with her two lovers. Every accusation against me had been fabricated.
Though they publicly mourned me, they secretly executed Lydia before my memorial in a brutal act of vengeance. But their guilt consumed them. Day after day keeping vigil over my preserved corpse drove them to madness.
Declan poisoned their meals. "You all betrayed Mom. You deserve to die with her!"
Jasper, barely standing, swung at him. "You hurt her most! She carried you, birthed you, raised you - her own flesh and blood! Why didn't you stand by her?"
Nolan stood coldly with a torch. "We're all guilty. No forgiveness, no escape. Cora, don't fear. I'm bringing our son to you." He ignited the house, reducing them all to ashes with my remains.
The System awaited my reaction. I could only shake my head sadly.
For eighteen years, I'd fought to survive. Whether it was worth it - that's for each to decide. But given the chance, I'd never choose redemption again. Some hearts are beyond saving.
Life is fleeting. Though cured, tomorrow's never guaranteed. All I can do is cherish the present and live well.
I traveled the world with my parents, soaking in its wonders. After they passed, I devoured books and wandered alone. Years later on a golden afternoon, I closed my eyes peacefully for the last time.
