I suddenly felt my throat become painfully sore, looking up at him without saying a word.
Ferris irritably ran his hand through his hair: "I didn't know that person was your friend. I'll contact the legal department."
After saying this, he gripped my hand tightly: "You came here just for this matter?"
I was somewhat puzzled. Besides this matter, what else could it be?
If it weren't for Cynthia, I wouldn't have come here at all.
Ferris gave a self-mocking smile. Just now he had been thinking that maybe I had heard he was sick and came to take care of him, or perhaps wanted to get back together.
But it turned out to be for someone else.
Being stared at so directly by him made me feel uncomfortable all over.
"Then please contact the legal department as soon as possible. I'll head back now."
I pulled my hand free and was about to leave.
Ferris spoke slowly: "Is this how you ask people for favors?"
I was stunned.
Before I could react, Ferris sat back down on the sofa and looked at me: "I'm not feeling well. You stay and take care of me."
"If I take care of you, will you be willing to let my friend go?"
Ferris made a "mm" sound, his voice hoarse and magnetic.
"Alright." I agreed.
Ferris leaned back on the sofa, his stomach aching dully. He hadn't eaten anything since going abroad last night until now.
"Aurora, you haven't forgotten how to cook, have you? I'm hungry."
"I'll order takeout for you." I took out my phone.
I was about to place an order when Ferris frowned and stopped me: "I want to eat what you make."
"If I cook, it will take at least an hour or two," I explained.
"I can wait."
Ferris's deep eyes stared intently at my face, never looking away for a moment.
Being watched like this made me very uncomfortable.
"Then I'll go cook now."
Ferris watched my graceful figure, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly.
The kitchen was clean as if it had just been renovated, with no food at all.
I had no idea how Ferris had been living after I left.
With no choice, I had to order groceries online.
Ferris was now lying on the living room sofa, eyes slightly closed, listening to the busy sounds from the kitchen.
Everything seemed to return to the beginning.
His body felt terrible, but his mood had improved considerably.
After resting for a while, he opened his phone.
The head of the legal department summarized all the online public opinion for him.
Ferris looked through the discussions about Ashley one by one, his expression calm.
He sent a message to the person in charge: "Release her."
Then he closed his phone.
I didn't know that Ferris had already ordered Clara's release as I personally made his favorite dishes. I brought the dishes to the table one by one and prepared the cold medicine.
"Dinner's ready."
Ferris came to the dining room. Looking at the delicious and well-presented dishes on the table, he suddenly said: "You used to cook for me often and would help me pick out fish bones."
I didn't expect him to remember these things. Sitting across from him, I said calmly: "Now I think only people who are good to me are worth loving."
"The person you mean who's good to you—is that Adrian?" Ferris gripped his knife and fork tightly. "We were married for three years, and I still can't compare to a childhood playmate of yours?"
