In the private restaurant, Adrian had the chef prepare my favorite dishes.
"You've gotten thinner recently, eat more."
"Mm."
I held my knife and fork, looking at the table full of exquisite food, but had no appetite.
"...By the way, what did you two talk about today?" I couldn't help but ask.
Adrian said: "Nothing much, just work-related matters."
"Did Ferris give you any trouble?" I pressed further.
Adrian paused with his knife and fork, looking at me with curved eyes: "I'm not a little girl, how could he give me trouble?"
He was being playful again.
I noticed that when Adrian was outside, he was always called "sir" by those around him, appearing serious and stern.
But in front of me, he would start joking around before long, sometimes even acting like a child.
"I'm being serious with you. If he gives you trouble, you must tell me."
During the meal, Adrian noticed that I was wearing a high-necked long-sleeved shirt today. On such a hot day, although there was air conditioning indoors, it would be unbearable once we went outside.
"Are you feeling unwell again recently?"
He knew I was sensitive to cold.
Noticing his gaze, I shook my head somewhat unnaturally: "No, I just thought the office air conditioning was too cold."
"You can bring a jacket next time. Wearing like this, your neck must be very stuffy."
"Mm-hmm." I lowered my head, not wanting him to see the marks on my body.
What I didn't know was that in another room, Ferris was watching every move Adrian and I made through surveillance.
He beckoned a waiter over and gave some instructions. Soon, the waiter brought red wine to our private room.
"Hello, this is complimentary from our restaurant."
After the waiter finished speaking, without waiting for our agreement, she approached to pour wine for me.
"No need, we don't drink alcohol." Adrian frowned.
He knew I couldn't control myself when it came to drinking, so whenever we dined out together, he never let me touch alcohol.
Precisely because he said this, the female waiter's hand shook, and the entire glass of red wine spilled directly on me.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." The waiter hurriedly grabbed tissues to wipe for me.
"It's okay, I'll do it myself." I was also flustered.
The red wine splashed on my neck, and the waiter actually reached out to help me unbutton my collar to wipe it clean.
Adrian walked over to me in a few steps, and just as he was about to help, his gaze suddenly froze on the red marks dotting my neck.
He silently looked away and threw a card to the waiter: "Go buy a new outfit."
"Yes."
The waiter took the card and left fearfully.
I didn't know that Adrian had already seen the marks on my neck, only saying softly: "I'll go to the restroom."
"Okay, I'll have the waiter send the clothes over."
"Mm." I hurried out of the private room.
But just as I reached the restroom door, I was blocked by a tall figure.
Ferris pulled me inside and closed the door behind him.
This was a unisex restroom.
I frowned at him, full of confusion: "How are you here?"
"Coincidence." Ferris sneered. "If I hadn't come here, I wouldn't have known that my wife could be so happy dining with another man."
As he spoke, his gaze fell on my neck...
