After all, I had almost finished selecting my engagement dress.
Today I rarely had a complete day off. I didn't go anywhere, just drank coffee while browsing through various luxury brand websites, all to pick out a dress suitable for an engagement ceremony.
After much selection, I finally narrowed it down to three dresses with completely different styles, falling into the abyss of decision paralysis.
The first was from Dior's French luxury line—a cream white off-shoulder dress made of three-dimensionally cut satin fabric, with slight pleats at the chest, a cinched waist, and a skirt that naturally flowed from below the knee, light and ethereal, with an elegance that carried a touch of nobility.
The hem was hand-sewn with delicate pearls that glowed softly under the lights.
The second was from Elie Saab's custom line—a misty blue deep-V long dress with intricate silver thread embroidery at the chest and sheer sleeves that offered a hint of understated sensuality.
The entire dress hugged the curves, with a hem that bloomed into natural wave patterns, elegant yet commanding.
The third was Valentino's romantic masterpiece—a peach pink off-shoulder ball gown with delicate feather embroidery around the chest, paired with layers of light tulle creating a skirt like a rose fallen from the clouds.
The overall style was dreamy yet ceremonial, perfect for lawn engagement parties or outdoor ceremonies.
I posted the three dress images on Instagram and shared them on Facebook with a simple caption:
"Struggling with engagement dress choices, help me pick one! Which of ①②③ looks better?"
The comments section quickly became lively.
In just over ten minutes, I received many likes and comments.
Adrian: [They all look beautiful, if you like them just buy them all and wear them in rotation.]
Several colleagues I got along well with also liked and commented.
Colleague 1: [Wow, great taste, all three suit you well, have your fiancé buy them all.]
Another colleague commented: [Wow wow wow, Aurora why are you picking formal dresses? Are you getting married?]
Reading through the comments, among all the likes and blessings from friends and family, a few comments were particularly jarring.
Clara: [...]
Ethan: [Aurora, why are you posting this...?]
Ferris's friend 1: [You really dare to fantasize, huh? Hilarious, go to the hospital and get that head of yours checked.]
Ferris's friend 2: [These are all designer new releases. Before showing off, maybe learn about the prices first... Forget buying them, you can't even afford to rent them.]
Ferris: [?]
Seeing this, my heart jumped—I had forgotten to block Ferris!
Just as I was thinking this, I received a mindlink from Ferris.
Ferris: [Delete that post.]
Still his usual commanding tone.
However, this time I didn't comply, instead saying: [I won't.]
Ferris: [Did you not listen to anything I said before?]
Ferris: [I told you, I will never have a soul bonding ceremony with you. Even if you try to pressure me by buying rings and dresses, it won't work.]
[You're only making me more disgusted with you.]
Looking at those words, my chest felt stuffy and painful.
They were just cold sentences, yet they cut like a dull knife.
I stared at the screen, my heartbeat skipping, and after a long while slowly replied: [The dress isn't for you.]
The other side was silent for a few seconds before sending: [Aurora, enough is enough.]
[You've been acting very strange lately.]
Just then, my phone rang—the caller ID showed Adrian.
This might be a good opportunity to be honest.
I took a breath and said: [I'm not lying to you. My new fiancé is calling me. Do you want to listen?]
