I thought I had spoken clearly enough.
But the next morning, Yorick appeared at the villa entrance covered in blood.
In his eyes was the same obsession as when he first made promises to me.
His face was pale as he lifted his shirt.
Where Linda's name had been tattooed, he had carved out a piece of flesh. His right ring finger was empty.
His entire body was red and swollen from scrubbing.
"Aurora, I'm sorry. I was wrong, I was really wrong. I said I would protect you for a lifetime—not a day less. I'm giving back to myself a hundred, a thousand times the hurt I caused you. Please forgive me, okay?"
As he spoke, he gripped two steel needles and stabbed them into his ears.
Yorick's screams echoed throughout the villa district.
Blood kept dripping from his ears.
Many people began to gather and watch.
After all, this was my private matter, and I didn't want to affect others.
In the ambulance, he looked at me with hopeful eyes.
He kept signing to me.
I didn't look at him.
I escorted him to the hospital all the way.
After settling him in, I called Yorick's parents.
Yorick's mother cried and apologized to me, but she still pleaded for Yorick, begging me to give him another chance.
I showed them the data I had copied from Yorick's hidden phone.
Over these ten years, it wasn't just Linda.
He had had relationships with at least dozens of girls and had kept photos of them all.
After his mother apologized for Yorick, she transferred nearly ninety percent of their assets to me as compensation. I gladly accepted their compensation.
Then I watched them forcibly take Yorick back to the pack.
The sunlight outside was perfect, and light steam rose from the coffee cup.
I rested my chin on my hand, listening to the busy sounds from the kitchen, suddenly feeling that this kind of peace was the life I truly wanted.
A few years later, I began taking over Uncle's company.
I used nearly ninety percent of the assets as compensation to bring in new investments and rebuilt the management structure. Those years of deafness had taught me to observe meticulously. Details that others overlooked, I could keenly capture—this actually became my business talent.
I had never studied business, but I learned to be calm, persistent, and to believe in myself when others didn't.
The company came back to life, turning profitable within just three months. For the first time, I was called the "Queen of Hearing's Return" in the industry.
I wasn't in a hurry to pursue romance. Maybe in the future, there would be someone willing to watch sunsets with me and listen to the wind, but I enjoyed the tranquility that belonged to me now.
I would go jogging every morning, listening to symphonies I couldn't hear before through my earphones;
I would listen to rain on rainy nights, hearing the soft sound of cats jumping onto windowsills;
I would lean on the sofa reading books in undisturbed late nights, listening to the sound of my own heartbeat.
My world was finally complete, no longer missing a piece, no longer shattered for anyone.
That morning, I received new news about Yorick.
