What threw me off even more was the custom wedding ring Vincent had designed for me. Supposedly, it was one-of-a-kind—meant to be the only one in the world. But I could've sworn I'd seen its exact twin on another woman's finger.
Had this ring been meant for someone else first?
Did Vincent only give it to me after another woman returned it?
But that didn't add up—I'd been right there with him when he had it made.
Two days later, Saturday rolled around. By all rights, I should've been over the moon, but my head was a mess. A gnawing dread clung to me, refusing to let go.
Wesley, Vincent's closest friend, had completely ghosted him after the incident. No calls, no texts—nothing. Maybe their friendship really was over.
That morning at the airport, everything went off without a hitch. The weather was flawless.
Vincent was practically buzzing with excitement, his energy contagious. After we got through security and settled at the gate, a stranger sent me a friend request out of nowhere.
I hesitated, then accepted.
The second I did, they hit me with a photo.
It was a personal accident insurance policy—with my name on it. Coverage? Five million dollars. Beneficiary? Vincent Roland.
I barely had time to process it before Vincent reappeared. My pulse spiked, and I locked my phone in a hurry.
Before I could even think, he was tugging me toward the gate, his grip firm.
Once we were in the air, my nerves only got worse. That insurance policy played on a loop in my head.
Was this trip just a setup? A way for Vincent to cash in on my death?
The thought sent ice through my veins. I kept stealing glances at him, but he looked completely relaxed—which only made my panic worse.
"Vincent…" My voice wavered. "Did you… take out an insurance policy on me?"
