I braced myself for Vincent's rage when I confronted him about his scheme. But his reaction threw me off completely—he remained eerily calm.
"Correct," he admitted smoothly. "I took out insurance policies for both of us. Flying comes with risks, and coverage is just practical..."
He unzipped his backpack and produced two personal accident insurance documents—one for me, one for him. The beneficiary clauses were reciprocal. And if something happened to both of us? The payout would go to his parents.
My thoughts short-circuited. It was all real.
Vincent had done this for us. Maybe I'd been paranoid.
But then—who was that stranger who'd messaged me? What did they want?
Were they trying to tear us apart?
After landing, Vincent arranged for a driver from a seaside homestay to pick us up. An hour later, we arrived at a charming island getaway.
The turquoise water and stunning views lifted my mood. The peaceful atmosphere almost made me forget my unease.
Dinner was an extravagant seafood feast—fresh, flavorful, perfect. Later, Vincent suggested a nighttime swim.
I hesitated, uneasy about the ocean after dark. He didn't press but handed me a glass of juice instead. "Freshly squeezed," he said with a smile. "You'll love it."
Halfway through, the room spun. Then—nothing.
When I came to, my wrists and ankles were strapped to a cold metal bed. The sharp sting of antiseptic burned my nose.
I turned my head. Vincent stood over me, his expression unreadable—almost satisfied.
"Vincent, what's going on? Where are we?"
The sterile white walls screamed hospital—probably some offshore clinic.
"Vivian... I'm sorry." His voice was ice. "But I never loved you. My heart has always been Sophia Valentine's."
My blood turned to frost.
"Sophia has uremia. She needs a kidney." His gaze locked onto mine. "And yours is a perfect match."
