Valentine
I'm slowly coming to accept and believe that this evil plan to seek revenge is going to work. I'm moping around my office when all of a sudden a vision of ecstasy began rolling inside my head. A sweet revenge and might just probably be the sweetest, seamlessly executed to perfection played like a film in the cinema. Perhaps, just like I did, Dominic won't see this coming his way. I sat and turned my swivel chair around to face a mural of me hanging idly on the wall before finally fishing the list from my pocket. Although it's looking a little bit rough from staying alive for several years, I don't know if this is a blessing or a curse. For now, this list appeared to be a secret recipe to me. Perchance, it's my one and only secret recipe to cooking a delectable dish. A broken heart with a side of sweet revenge coming to Dominic's doorstep. I hope it doesn't become a curse and bite me in the ass one day.
The fourth step on the list is to surprise him. Hmm, not that hard but not that easy either. How do I surprise him exactly?
Dominic is still Dominic, I guess. At least that's how I felt when we were finally given a chance to talk. Despite of some changes that I've noticed about him, I'm still hoping he still liked the pizza and chicken wing combo that we used to eat at the beach front and at the upper hill overlooking the beautiful scenery of the city. I turned back around to face my computer and just gave my unfinished work a cold glance as if it doesn't have its own deadline. Dominic isn't really a difficult to please type of guy or at least that's how I remember him. Maybe I should just buy him a ticket to one of Shawn's concerts. That might just be the perfect idea to get him shooting over the moon.
I folded the list and slipped it back to my pocket as I began to touch the mouse and search Google. I typed Shawn Mendes and in just a matter of milliseconds the profile of the Canadian singer popped up. As far as I can remember, this guy is his high school celebrity crush and when I clicked images a lot of his photos from different campaigns showed up. I took one glance and another stare, blinked multiple times and then I just realized that I'm way hotter than this guy but you know there's always something special about boys who can actually sing and play the guitar at the same time. People say boys who play the guitar and can sing loves to break a heart. Maybe I could sing a Shawn Mendes song to him somewhere at the mall or at the park or anywhere else public. It sounds poetic as far as everything goes.
I spent the rest of the day planning for my ultimate surprise for Dominic and ignoring the fact that I have to finish my reports due this Friday. This obsession with revenge felt even more important than my actual job. By the time we were about to head home I caught up with Ivana and had a little bit of a conversation.
"So," With a heavy breath, Ivana started. "How was your operation destroying Dominic thingy going on?" She asked as we walked down the hallway heading towards the parking lot. This is our usual routine every end of shift.
"I'm feeling good about it," I replied almost instantly with a hint of pure confidence gritting in my tone.
"You sound so much confident." Ivana uttered as if she has some doubts about me.
"I just feel like everything is going smoothly according to the plan," I volleyed back. "At least, according to the list."
"That's great. But what if Dominic catches you halfway through the plan?" Ivana wondered and I already feel that this is starting to feel a little bit negative. "What if he wakes one day and realizes that you are actually doing what he did to you? What if he catches you glancing at the list or something?" She went on to continue bombarding me with questions.
"Hold up!" I said stopping a bit to stare at her. "Is this a damn quiz bee? Are you being serious right now?" I scowled.
"What? I'm serious," She paused and scowled back at me. "Valentine, my point is," She paused to take a breath before continuing. "Do you even have a backup plan just in case something fucks up?" She spat and even though she has a valid point I'm not really in the mood to think of her suggestion.
"Backup? I don't have any. I guess that will be my assignment." I answered just to keep her mouth shut already but in reality I'm more than confident that this thing is going to work pretty much the way I envisioned it. There's no need for a backup plan.
"You should really have a backup plan. You know just in case something goes the other way and fuck this whole thing up." She insisted.
"You're right. I'm going to think about it." I lied and we both resumed walking towards where my car was parked.
"Oh, by the way. I know something that might just help you,"
"What?"
"I just stalked Dominic's twitter account earlier this morning and he just announced that he's excited for his birthday next week." Ivana revealed. I bet there's really a good thing about being a social media stalker and getting a peek about everyone's lives.
"Really?" I reacted, a little bit surprised. His birthday? How'd I even forget about that?
"Yup, and I just thought wherever you are with the list that it might help you."
"I'm about to surprise him. That's like a perfect timing for this." I'm already getting more excited about this. There are already ideas popping up inside my head. I just need some time alone to let it grow and foster to a fully realized plan.
"Things are really conspiring for this to happen huh?" Ivana trailed.
"Damn right!"
I dropped Ivana to her apartment and when I got home I was more than surprised to see Vincent and Yhannie.
"What happened to your face?" I asked staring at Vincent's patched eyebrow. It seems that he had a fight with someone.
"Nothing," He replied quickly.
"His ex-boyfriend did that." Yhannie, refusing to conspire with Vincent, just barked the truth without any second thoughts.
"Keiran?" I raised an eyebrow towards my older brother.
"I told..... Who else could it be?" Vincent answered seemingly annoyed with Yhannie.
"Why'd he do that to you?"
"It's my fault anyway." Vincent quickly answered preventing Yhannie from spilling more tea. "Let's just forget about that. We are about to order food, what do you want?" Vincent said quickly shifting the spotlight away from him.
"Anything," I replied.
"Anything what?" Yhannie inquired.
"Just get me anything," I spat. My mind is actually focused on something else.
I went straight to my room, took a quick shower and slipped on my bedtime pajamas. By the time I went downstairs the food already arrived. The smell of pizza and chicken wing quickly invaded my nostrils making my stomach churn. I haven't had pizza and chicken wings for the past week and I must say I missed dipping them on a garlic sauce. I joined Vincent and Yhannie at the couch and we all watched an episode of The Walking Dead.
"Hey Yhannie," I started when I remembered about Dominic's upcoming birthday.
"What?" She replied with a mouthful of pizza.
"Have you talked to Dominic recently?" I was hesitant at first but I've got nothing to lose anyway.
"Yeah, yeah! We just had a long conversation over the phone this morning." Yhannie answered as if nothing had happened between all of us.
"Oh really? What did you talked about?" I asked out of curiosity.
"You know, things like trying to revive our friendship and stuff about college."
"That's fantastic, what else?" I was kind of hoping she'll mention something about Dominic's birthday and maybe I could get some inside information. But it's great to hear them trying to revive what they've lost. There are probably some things that I don't know yet but I want to keep it that way for now.
"Oh by the way, we are going to a club tomorrow night." Yhannie's voice suddenly went high pitched. "Do you want to come?"
"Naah, I'm okay. I have a lot of reports to finish." I said with the sudden popping up of an idea inside my head.
I suddenly thought of denying him an appearance from me. I want to establish a hunger, perhaps make him starve of me. I want him to miss me gravely before I execute a surprise.
"I'm sorry, what? Is this the new Valentine speaking?" Yhannie uttered.
"No really, I just need to finish something."
"Okay, Mr. Manager!" Yhannie said and went on to shift her attention from me towards my brother whose eyes are glued to the television. "How about you Mr. Can't Move On?"
"What?" Vincent was pulled out his attention from the television.
"Tugs tugs tugs!" Yhannie made an impression of someone dancing in the club raising her hand and grinding his hips.
"I mean why not," Vincent answered as if he had no other choice.
"Bro? Are you okay, what happened to that really?" I asked pointing out his eyebrow.
"Oh this? It's really nothing. Keiran and me just had a fight."
"But I thought you two weren't together anymore?" I asked a little bit confused.
"Yup,"
"But..." I was about to ask him another question when I quickly realized that he's hiding something.
