                    Dominic
It's been fifteen minutes since someone covered my face with a sack and dragged me somewhere. I'm trying to keep track of the time as much as I can. My focus is set to keep track of everything to be precise just like some of those kidnapping movies where the victim tries to keep track of the time, tries to listen to some distinct sounds from the surroundings and even observe the place's smell. I know for a fact that I'm still in the neighborhood since they only carried me for a few minutes. If my observations are right, I'm inside a bedroom since it doesn't smell like a basement and I don't remember being carried down some stairs, it actually smells like mothballs and a lot of fabric here. I'm perfectly aware that I have to be calm in this kind of situations, but the fact that I saw my mom bleeding unconscious and my sister tied up is taking me somewhere else around the city of panic. I'm trying to talk to someone, but no one was answering so I'm pretty much getting to the conclusion that I'm alone in this room right now. They tied me into a chair to make sure I won't make my escape. My hands and feet were all tied up tight enough.
Just like a blink of an eye, another five minutes went by, and I heard the door open. Hearing the slow creaking sounds it created made my ear hurt. Heavy footsteps followed almost immediately and the next thing I know I'm being lifted up. I'm still tied-up tight on the chair, but they have chosen to lift me up along with the chair itself. I tried screaming, but they are smart enough to put something on my mouth, and the only sound that I make are indistinct gibberish sounds that I almost feel like one of the minions of Gru. Struggling won't even do anything for me, I could possibly fall and get hurt, and they'd just pick me up again.
The darkness makes me a little bit dizzy, and I'm beginning to lose my sense of focus until they finally put me down. Nice and gentle, they settled the chair on the ground, it's as though I'm a fragile package that they need to deliver safe and sound. I don't know what's going on, but this is one of those moments where I just wish to shut down. I imagined being slaughtered in the worst possible ways. I've thought of my head getting chopped and thrown somewhere along the river. I've thought of being tortured before getting shot in the forehead. Someone finally decided to remove the sack from my head and then I immediately heard party poppers popping continuously.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!"
It took a moment for my eyes to adjust to the bright afternoon light, and when it did, I saw a myriad of confetti flying all around our backyard. A lot of people were clapping and cheering in front of me. I saw my mom very much alive and well, and she's smiling so crazy that I finally understood what's happening. She still got those bloodstains on her face which I'm pretty sure is fake. My sister Collene stood right beside her, and she's fine as well.
What the actual fuck!
So this is my mom's master plan all along? I almost shit myself from this shenanigan that she had organized. She almost gave me a heart attack. But I've got to commend the creativity that she put to make this one happen. I have to admit that it's better, far developed and well-thought-out than the last time she tried to surprise me. But it almost gave me a heart attack, and she's going to pay for this after.
"Happy Birthday, Dominic!" My mom yelled from afar. Her voice is cracking up, but I guess she's happy, that's why.
"Thank you, mom." I replied. I tried to stand up, and I almost forgot that I'm still tied-up tight on this chair. "Uhm, can someone untie me now. Please!" I requested awkwardly.
"Oh yeah, yeah." My mom giggled and immediately rushed towards where I was sitting.
"What the fuck, mom. You almost gave me a heart attack!" I whispered to my mother as she was untying me up.
"Did you see what I did there? HAHAHA!"
"Jesus!"
It's taking a while for my mom to untie the rope, so a guy from that crowd came over to help. As soon as they got me free, I quickly stoop up and try to rub the part of my hands where the rope was tied.
Just when I thought everything was over and we could finally proceed to the party, I heard guitars. One strum after the other.
I'll be your dream, I'll be your wish, I'll be your fantasy
I'll be your hope, I'll be your love, be everything that you need
An extremely familiar voice began singing. I turned my head around, hoping to locate him, but I see no one. I can only see the crowd in front of me, smiling as if they're waiting for a show to commence.
I love you more with every breath truly, madly, deeply do
I will be strong, I will be faithful 'cause I'm counting on
A new beginnin'
A reason for livin'
A deeper meaning, yeah
The crowd in front of me began to slowly open up as Yhannie emerged from them. She's holding a bouquet of flowers. Feeling her bridesmaid fantasy, she slowly inched her way towards me. She handed me the bouquet, held my hand and looked at me in the eye and said, "Happy birthday, bitch!"
I wanted to burst into hysterical laughter for that, but the familiar voice continued singing taking away my attention with it.
I wanna stand with you on a mountain
I wanna bathe with you in the sea
I wanna lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me
Yhannie went out of my sight, and she's followed by Zach and Ivan. This is the first time that I'm going to see these two in five years, and they seemed like they haven't changed at all. Zach is holding a bouquet of chocolates while Ivan is holding a cake.
And when the stars are shining brightly in the velvet sky
I'll make a wish, send it to heaven and make you want to cry
The tears of joy for all the pleasure and the certainty
That we're surrounded by the comfort and protection
"Happy birthday, Nick. We missed you so much!" Ivan gave me the bouquet of chocolates.
"Happy birthday, man!" Zach said, still holding the cake and trying to keep the fire on the candle going.
Of the highest powers
In lonely hours
The tears devour you
Zach and Ivan both moved behind me, and my attention was redirected to the crowd as they slowly opened up for real this time. Just like when Moses parted the sea, half of them moved to the left and the other half moved to the right making a clear path within.
An' I wanna stand with you on a mountain
I wanna bathe with you in the sea
I wanna lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me
My heart skipped a beat when my eyes finally laid on who's standing on the other side. It was damn Valentine. If I was shackled by fear a while ago after being kidnapped by my own mother's accord, then this is a whole new feeling. My heart was beating fast. Faster and faster, as if it's trying to catch someone.
Oh, can you see it, baby?
You don't have to close your eyes
It's standin' right before you
All that you need will surely come
Ooh, yeah
Valentine began inching his way towards me. And although his singing voice isn't that good at all, the eye contact that he's making with me is conjuring an invisible spark that is the sole reason for this weird excitement that I'm feeling right now. I can hear Yhannie bringing out her inner fujoshi from behind, and it's honestly driving me insane. I can even hear the crowd expressing so much support.
I'll be your dream, I'll be your wish, I'll be your fantasy
I'll be your hope, I'll be your love, be everything that you need
I'll love you more with every breath truly, madly, deeply do
I can feel my heart beating towards the stars, towards the universe and back. Valentine finally made his way and is now facing me. I wanted to cry out of shock and pure joy, but I don't want to move out from the eye contact. I'm scared that if I unfasten from the connection, I might send him the wrong notion that I didn't like it.
I wanna stand with you on a mountain
I wanna bathe with you in the sea
I wanna lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me
I liked this. This is what I wanted. Even after everything that I did to hurt Valentine. Even after all the trouble of my bad decisions. Even after all that.
I wanna stand with you on a mountain
I wanna bathe with you in the sea
I want to live like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me
